Ellerslie can easily fund their own Strathayr without acquiring further assets. But the only way the $50m a year in stakes can be delivered is by acquiring Avondale's assets (Counties don't have any!).

They're not yet. Has to be approved by members from all three clubs. However if they don't approve then NZTR can then invoke the land grab sections of the new Act. Sign of things to come.

Geez I sound terrible on the radio! Anyhoo it just dawned on me how they will fund the $50m a year in stakes. Similar to Alexandra Park. Sell and/or develop Avondale into apartments. Create a reoccurring stream of revenue from that Capital to fund stakes. That is dont expect racing to fund itself. Watch out Otago/Southland they're coming for you. At least we know now who one of the THREE business consultants were. KPMG another? Looks like Reeftons accountancy guru didn't get the contract.

Where did he say that? The track was fair to all. His only gripe must be that it didn't suit Marine. -
TAB vows there won’t be a repeat of Saturday farce Article Author 7:27PM09 November 2020 Tabcorp will reward loyal punters and has vowed to do what is necessary to ensure there won’t be a repeat of the nationwide betting system meltdown on the weekend. The wagering and gaming giant is conducting a “thorough and urgent investigation” into the computer systems failure last weekend which is estimated to have cost $120 million in betting turnover. “It’s been a very tough weekend for punters, for TAB, for the racing industry and for thousands of retail venues out there across the country that rely on our products,’’ Tabcorp’s managing director of wagering and media, Adam Rytenskild told The Daily Telegraph on Monday. “I can understand the frustrations and I’m very sorry for what has occurred, sorry for our customers especially, and to the racing industry. A closed TAB counter at Flemington during the computer malfunction on Stakes Day. “We will definitely be doing something quite substantial for our customers over the coming days and weeks, we are very focused on that. “(But) at the moment, we just want to make sure our systems are stable and thankfully we are operating across all channels now.’’ It is understood a preliminary assessment indicates a smoke and possible fire incident at a data centre resulted in extensive damage to Tabcorp’s servers and associated infrastructure causing the betting network to shutdown for more than 24 hours. Rytsenkild said the review process will address why TAB’s sophisticated computer back-up systems did not work when the network crashed after just 11am on Saturday. “When we have had incidents like this in the past our systems have gone over to those back-up systems to ensure (network) continuity,’’ he said. The TAB website is seen on a computer with a message saying betting is currently unavailable during the 28-hour crash. “That hasn’t happened in this case, it is an unprecedented situation and we will do whatever is necessary coming out of this review to make sure this doesn’t happen again.’’ Tabcorp has also dismissed continued speculation of a cyber security breach to the betting network. “There is no evidence to suggest we have been hacked at this stage,’’ Rytenskild said. “Customer data is safe and we wanted to make sure that was the case before we brought our systems back up.’’ Tabcorp’s share price fell 12 cents (2.9%) to $3.98 on Monday and was the worst performing stock on the ASX 200 on a day when the market rose 1.8% to an eight-month high at 6298 points.

I keep saying going from a low cost model to a high cost model with stagnating revenues is madness.
-
Eh?! That's a big call. That's at least $50 million in stakes per year. The current total for ALL three codes and ALL clubs is $130m!!!!! Are Deloittes smoking something?
-
Yes and we asked for your source or corroboration but you weren't forthcoming.

So reading between the lines the Strathayr will be funded by Avondale. Pukekohe has nothing to sell and the money poured in there didn't fix the track so only option is to close it. I wonder where Ruakaka will end up. Will be interesting to see what happens in the Waikato. Are they still talking a Greenfields development in Cambridge?
-
Where did you pick that info up from?
-
Geez Joe do you check under the bed each night for Red Glowing Toads?
-
No it could be both. Power surge leads to overheating of electrical components generating smoke. Activates fire suppression (masses of a halogen gas released) and systems go into auto turn off. That wind down should be gentle but sometimes not. A good system would have either a hot site back up in another location which would kick in or initiate a cold site to start up. Murphy's Law these things happen on big transaction days!

Riccarton Track - 2000 Guineas 7 November 2020

I only quickly scanned the document but I think I read that because "the track was replacing an existing grass training track there would be no changes to storm water volumes and management". Isnt there literally, in simplistic terms, an asphalt road being built on top of which sand is being spread? Doesnt seem like like for like to me. -
Today they stated it was a data centre fire and smoke issue. They had rescheduled a complete reboot this morning before racing starts. I'm picking that a close down of the systems was triggered during a high transaction time. When they came back up it was a dirty start up and not everything recovered. Depends on the architecture model they are using. But unplanned close downs during high transaction traffic times are often problematic.

Age restriction on racecourse entry - Riccarton!
Chief Stipe replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
In defence of the CJC I think the Police and Licensing Authority approach is all wrong but symptomatic of the nanny state central bureaucrats know best. Whatever happened to individual responsibility? Why does "Host Responsibility" have to extend past the point of sale? That is if the person selling the alcohol deems that the customer is not intoxicated and is of an eligible age to purchase alcohol isn't that where their responsibility stops? Now a days it seems to go way beyond the point of sale to the point that if anything damaging happens between the point of sale and the customer getting home the host is deemed somehow responsible. That's an absolute nonsense. I've never understood why with a drink driving fail that the Police insist on knowing where the person had been drinking and if they find out it is a black mark against that establishment. What's more who determined that under 18's were or are the problem? Why isn't the rule applied to every race day? To apply R18 to one day seems to signal that this day is party day and potentially a problem. -
Are you actually illiterate? I pulled Brodie up for it. Mikie asked "why"? I explained why. LET IT GO MEHE.

You've done your time and presumably you are a reformed citizen. I draw the line at bringing that stuff up as a form of attack just like people attacking posters family.

Well you must be one of the "chosen ones" as you haven't been moderated. Plus in case you haven't noticed I always call you out when you publish the party line propaganda without any analysis.
