Tony Pike's Horses Scratched at Doomben for Late Treatment
Rowley Mile replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Not this side of the ditch Curious, nada, zilch........treading on eggshells, a Pandora's box..... -
Yes, very interesting so far. It seems some very experienced farms (vendors) are selling their complete 2017 crop of youngsters, not unlike Dan Myers. This action, I believe, will temper a red hot market. I know the middle to lower tiers of both the Classic and Premier sales were slow....so this could be the start of downturn in the yearling market. The "big" farms are selling many weanlings by their new resident sires....obviously to get them out into the market...but also it could be they see a downturn (at that end of the market) coming and don't want to be left with slow moving yearlings.... I'm sure the big names will be targeting the nice mares next week...so again it will show an imbalance in the industry....

I'm hoping JM will adopt your ideas and suggestions Porky, the salaries for underachieving people are obscene, no objection to big salaries Porky if the results warrant them.....but it is sickening to think JA was suggesting his 600K was 'acceptable'.......and warranted........FFS -

Ashoka, I agree, and although I'm used to a good kicking, I base my opinion on sectionals, the final sectionals to be exact, I think the last 400 of one of his opponents will be quicker, and that horse too will be better suited to a fast track and not a sloppy....bring it on, and I'll share my liniment with you if we get it wrong! -

I don't think he had that much left to be honest, his opposition was moderate, in the Belmont they seem to produce a staying type from the wings so to speak.....maybe wrong, and hope in some ways that's the case as a triple crown means so much.....let's see? -

It was hard to watch, the weather saw to that, but what a lovely horse the winner is, I feel he won't get 2400, they should stop him now, he's the best 3yo in the States.......the jocks colours says it all really, he rode to the conditions...... -

Come in Curious, hoping you can she some light on the 'announcement' on the NZTR site, Foxton trials moved to Waverley'? Is Foxton under water?

TVNZ Q & A With Winston Peters and John Allen
Rowley Mile replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
The whole bloody thing is so sad and sick.....now Baker and Pike are whinging, Chris Wood came out years ago and gave them stick.....and apparently resigned due to disillusion and despair, meanwhile the 'leading trainers' kept on enjoying the rarified air that Cambridge seems to exude. Spare me, where were you guys when the likes of Paul Belsham had to walk away? and now Peters is going to turn things around. You must remember, the industries reserves were plundered in order to 'up' the stakes to the min K10, that has to be paid back before any initiatives are implemented, surely? you can't just rob Peter to pay Paul.....maybe the age old analogy ''it has to get worse before it gets better'' is in play here, well the foal crop being what it is, stakes being what they are, and the admin of NZ racing being what it is, how much worse can it get? Love Peters, or hate him, or just siting on the fence, the procurement of John Messara was much needed, at least he may steer NZRB in the right direction by adopting a successful and workable business and sporting model that saves and invigorates NZ Racing.....long term it won't worry me, we got out, but for you decent hard working buggers at the coal face, who don't have the option or luxury of re-locating I just hope that a positive outcome is enjoyed by all. -

This to me is shades of the tainted trough saga........, he said, she said, I'm not saying anything, etc..... what a load of cobblers, we all know the withholding period, and over here in Oz it's no different, well it is, as some don't give a monkey's, just ask Smerdon, oh, that's until you get sprung of course! -
Well done Freda, great day for the stable yesterday, close to a double.......all up the place means I can pay for the Missus and I to get into the paddock today at Doomben, and a pie and a beer!
-
Absolutely, we went to Beaudesert for their Anzac Day meeting, huge crowd, plenty of bookies, great atmosphere, Ipswich midweek was like a morgue, or a NZ race meeting, same same........the tiny fields in NSW are a real worry, Waller may have something to do with that, although you naysayers may disagree......some really good trainers have left SYD for Brisbane and other climes.....so taking Waller and the saturation from that stable out of the equation, there is a problem here also. The crowds at the races Sat in SYD are growing, and have a real young vibe going......especially in spring/summer......the difference between the two countries, something will be done here to address the problem, in NZ nada, big fat zilch, unless John M is taken seriously.
-
Therein lays the problem Curious, the act needs changing, John M will no doubt moot that, however my thoughts are that won't happen and nothing will come of this........oh Christ how I hope I'm wrong, for everyones sake.

Hedley and Ashoka, great to have you here guys, this site will be the market leader in record time with the likes of you two on board.
-
Cry me down, but the board has to be dismissed, if this was Coles Myer or Wefarmers here in Oz it would have happened long ago, the board is dysfunctional, there is little or no transparency, no accountability, and NZ other than DPK. or perhaps Russia is the only place on the planet where this is tolerated. NZ rewards mediocrity and NZRB has proved by the demise of racing in NZ that it can't do the job.
-
I reckon that's where the prize money increase might come from Hedley, a big broom, a fly swat to some and wammo, there's a few mil to start off with.

C'mon Boss, if you buy a house, move in and find down the track the house has asbestos, don't you then move out and have the house cleaned, remedied before moving back in? In this case, I think the house has more than asbestos, the contamination will require a quarantine period, and John's continual denial of how bad things are is more than worrying.
-
Nice work by the chief, better work from John Allen.....you can understand now why he was employed, NZRB should be re-titled, Smoke and Mirrors, staring David Copperfield, AKA, JA.

How many Karaka Millions did Liam Birchley win?
Rowley Mile replied to Dark Beau's topic in Galloping Chat
Well, we now know the outcome and sentences.....Birchley can count himself lucky, very lucky, only 12 months, a cruise, a meal, a movie and he's landed back on his feet...Gee, he might only have to rent out his boxes at EF, and then pick up the reins so to speak. Smerdon got his just dessert, as did Vasil etc......hopefully we can all get on with life, the Terry Bailey haters will come out of the woodwork now though. -
No Wally, from memory it was anti inflammatory ointment, I may stand corrected, but FBI were our neighbours for many years and they ran a brilliant org.......every arvo all the bro's were out walking horses with the strappers, one in each hand [horses] walk for 40 min, and then a long pick.....horses came first for them, always.
