I think he had the good sense to walk away did he not, I remember a post from Chris saying he couldn't get any support, so he walked......they are absolutely useless, those that could, couldn't or can't.....any other industry and you would have seen militant action, the place is falling apart, some pushing their own agendas, others who have it cosy, so why rock the boat when you are at retirement age.......I feel for the good buggers, and there are plenty, there has to be retribution, history proves it will happen, my hope is that those that dragged NZ racing to the level it is now will have their day of judgement, and they suffer the consequences of their actions.

Absolutely! great post!

On the 'other side' I see one poster has laid the boot into Brian, sunk the slipper, and yet Brian has spoken for the much maligned hoi poloi, the coalface, the people that matter.....I would have thought Brian should be rewarded, not lambasted.

Thank You Jess.
-
Hi Jess, I think Freda has summed them up, pretty much, our gelding is as laid back as Freda's fillies, however, Joe Pride has Easy Eddie a multiple city winner in Sydney and when he kicked off his career he had to re-trial as a very naughty boy in the barriers and jumping out!......but boy can he gallop. A bigger than average horse too, R Laming won on the coast with another on Saturday, Easy Beast, he just blew them away with speed and the ability to get through wet ground, he's another with a bit of size to him......Prom Queen is a midget compared to those boys.
-
No Jess, other than I put my hand up for one and bred another. Both go OK and are only young ones, he's from a magic winning family, he was exceptional himself, and I feel if they aren't pushed early they will shine as 3yo's, and have, here in Oz.While no champions, Prom Queen is well above ordinary and as for his multitude of winners over here, they win metro races and that is no easy task, and they win often......totally underrated stallion, then again there are so many stallions that don't get the chances they deserve so I'm singing his praises based on the marvellous job he has done with the stock here in Oz.

Strikes again today at the Gold Coast, Easy Beast, easy win, bolts in......super stallion.

TAB to announce 5th July that they are broke!?
Rowley Mile replied to Boxie's topic in Galloping Chat
It's a bigger cock up than Dunkirk Chief, it works here in Oz, but most don't give a continental about NZ racing, you try to visit TAB.CO.NZ from here and you are blocked, the whole thing is a joke and people should be accountable ........there are more than a few having a laugh, took the gig cos they knew they needn't be accountable. It Will all end in tears and the reserves are gone, finished, bananas.........broke resonate with anyone......the figures bandied about were laughable, still are, just like the strategic plan Purcell mooted back in 2011. -
Tavistocks for 300 and 400 bucks a year or two back, his fillies are still at that price, can't give em away.
-
What a mark he is making on the track over here in Oz, his stats are, 19 3yo races won this season. Easy Eddie stamped his ability with a 3rd metro win on Sat at Rosehill. A couple of placing in NZ, but the we can look at the tracks and see a heavy in NZ is far different to a heavy here.........let's hope Joe Pride leads a merry dance of Aussie trainers to Karaka this year, and not so many Asian buyers, then the stallion will have a far better chance of moving up the ladder. Well done Hallmark, they must be chuffed.

Thanks Von, can't recall Paul, I only lasted 12 months there, last ride was at Wanganui, horse had 8-7 I rode 8-12......and lost 10 pounds in a week to do that, turning for home I saw a bottle of Leed Lemonade instead of the winning post, peed a bottle of blood from the piss pills, called it stumps and David Reed showed me a night out in Wellington, pissed and fat......nothings changed!.......Do I miss the 5* days? brutally honest...= nah.
-
Oh Yeah....Rubes was a mate of Dids and his pool partner at the Jube, you remember the Jube? now that was a pub......Laurie Helmling was a class above me at Mana College, and I missed him by a year at Otaki, he was driving horse floats over here in Oz for a while while I was training at Flemington......Rob Lammas......ha, he broke his neck one day at Otaki I think, in the 2nd race a hurdle, he was sitting next to me in the jocks room complaining of the neck pain, I told him to see the doc, nah he said, I'll see him after the Steeple, .....he won the bloody steeple, Gun I think it was, might be wrong, and then he see's the doc.....a plaster cast from head to navel for 3 months.......priceless......only Charlie Gestro was tougher, he was special that fella. Stew Munroe was great, apprenticed to Mick Preston I think, he had a brother, do you remember his name per chance? we got into some shit one night, ......these fellas I remember well, can't recall the others....sorry!
-
Guy was threatened by a posse one morning, he tied his horse up reverse order in the tie ups, except he used the conventional chains.......the horses bum was out in the 'lane'.....it double barrelled a couple of times and then the posse formed......I hate to say it, but guy was a sandwich short of a picnic, a kangaroo loose in the top paddock......it was laugh a minute.....
-
Wow, you are never too old to learn, I never knew Wally was at Otaki, I started at Hawera in 68 and he was entrenched then.....I finished in Otaki in 72......what a year that was, Jim Didham and Ken Thomson were the leading trainers as Mick Preston's team was down to about 20.....Alby Skinner was going great guns as John had begun riding I think, he played them easy until weight got him.....Black Rod and Topsy were unreal, Clem had a wonderful jock riding for him, but hells bells I can't remember his name....he rode jumps, highlights and WFA.....God he was a great rider, very laid back and charismatic, Ray Brown I think it may have been......David Reed had a stint at Otaki too, he was just out of his time, and then the stipes started gunning for him, that's when he lost it...memories, some good, some not so good,
-
Cobblers, you lot up north wouldn't know half pace from tooth paste......a lot to be desired? by whom.......from what I saw that wasn't flukish, more like natural ability.....a lot of slow horses up north, maybe the man is looking for a lifestyle, and some nice horses...he can ride mine anytime he likes, if the trainer chooses.
-
Congrats on todays victory, great great ride by the jock also, a classic.......if the RIU read this site, do yourselves a favour boys and use this ride as the teaching aid for apprentices, and for those jocks that may have lost their way.

Transparency, Good Governance, what on earth are the general public, Hoi poloi, thinking about all this? or do they not think anymore, now there's a thought.
-
I'm sitting here in Brizzie with a few mates enjoying bacon sandwiches watching the jump racing from NZ, when we saw what none of us have witnessed before, an absolute wonderful display of horsemanship. Congrats AK......if this doesn't go viral, nothing will....#bestseatinthehouse
-
There's no mention of MW in the press over in Oz, it's all about Henry Field of Newgate who 'found' the horse.......it's a bit like Duncan Ramage who signed the cheques for Bart and the Dato, Bart selected the horses, Duncan had the financial arrangement with the sales companies, Mulcaster is the same with Waller, I wonder who signed the 'slip' for Winks?
-
Congrats to you Stipe, you stuck and you were right. I thought he might not get the last furlong, what a great horse he is. They broke no records, he dictated and kept on, when you lead like that you throw out an invitation to your opponents to 'run you down'....he did just that, he won on his merits...you go boy, and stand proud.
-
He certainly has 'something' Freda, #historyrepeats
-
Are you talking from experience? You Massey types got up to all kinds of mischief back in the day eh?
-
There needs to be a root and branch clean out of NZ Racing before any lessons will be learnt Chief, I can't see that happening though, some are a protected species, under achieving is rewarded there, and it needs to stop....but wont.
-
We avoided Doomben yesterday, we live 10 min from the track, we went down to Gold Coast instead, however they had rain early morning on the coast [1 hour drive from Brizzie] and after noon rain at Doomben.......the track is not in good shape at Doomben, because of the drama's at Eagle Farm Doomben has to take the work load and is not coping.......a filly broke her leg in the Sires after putting her hoof in a hole.....the jocks put their foot down and so the rail was moved out......the last was run in near darkness, this can't go on.......luckily, there are two wonderful tracks to take over if need be.....the Gold Coast races nearly 50 times are year.......it's a magic surface to take that load...and the Sunshine Coast, only one hour up the highway.....finger crossed for the rest of the carnival.

Tony Pike's Horses Scratched at Doomben for Late Treatment
Rowley Mile replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
When I was training here in Oz, ignorance was no excuse, you either knew the rules or you didn't, but if you told porkies to the stipes, well, you got plenty, and it wasn't good plenty!
