If you know anything about Oz Wally, TAB CORP is the TAB here in OZ....they have shareholders, unlike the joke you have in NZ......they are answerable to the floor......is that clear enough for you. If you read my post I say I arrived in NZ after 43 years, TAB CORP is synonymous with Oz racing......I was 18 when I left NZ.......61 when I returned, oh why I ask myself, John M has at least left the door open for free thinking and responsible, contentious Kiwi's to fix the mire, can they? will they?......for all your sakes I hope so, too late for me, but it might save the young ones who are trainers and owners son's and daughters Wally, otherwise your racing industry is rooted.....and it's nearly rooted now.

4 years ago, short of 3 months I opened my first TAB acc in NZ......just arrived in the country after 43 years........deposited a four figure amount.......proceeded to have my first bet a few days later......started slowly to test the system.........worked fair, the odds were shocking compared to my Oz TAB CORP accounts, and Sportsbet........however, a week or so later I tried to have a substantial wager, whoa and behold, the submit button hit a hurdle......around and around the wheel went, spinning like a poker machine at an RSL here.......odds have changed flashed before my eyes, I thought it may have been a 'small problem'.......oh sadness, No it wasn't.....it was a culture I was witnessing........after a few months of sheer and utter madness, trying and watching the big bets being deflected by the odds have changed bullshit, and then just plain nothing....I would hit submit and nada, zilch....it would just Sit there, the bet that is, until they jumped...... I wrote a scathing but succinct email to TAB and guess what, nada, zilch......it sums up TAB and racing in general.......the complete industry needs root and branch reform and at least Winnie is first base....what surprised me tonight is the total ignorance of Mr G Rogerson regarding the Racefields Legislation.......Graeme seems to think there are countless punters betting on NZ racing here in Oz and around the world,,,now we know the Waikato can sodden your brain....but for Gods sake, can someone explain to Rogie that the RL is a furphy, it works here in Oz as the turnover is amazing......and the bookies are prepared to cop it as the rewards are worth it...the magic word is bookies, without them you will push dung uphill.........IMO

I think Mr Q might be a former leading trainer here in Oz, Greg Bennett, could be wrong, but as Greg broke in the likes of Makybe Diva and won so many country trainers premierships plus is the countries most respected horse breaker, well, it's a possibility if not a probability.....Greg would or could fix him if anyone can.......22nd Sept, bring it on.

Big Red EXPLODES his Big Red Naki Volcano top
Rowley Mile replied to Thomass's topic in Galloping Chat
His Dad was a lovely bloke, I rode one for him once, it was hopeless, he treated it like Phar Lap, he treated me the same......shame if that's true Shu......geezus, that rhymes. -
Listening to Jack Petley on racing radio here in Oz, he is quoting the over paid, under performing executives in Petone as being in John Messara's gun sights.......that was only one point, he was spot on with his analogy was Jack.....huge listening audience Australia wide, Jack also pointed out NZ Trainers flogging off their horses to Asia......some had to, some do through culture, but all this coverage is welcome as it exposes the problems. Jack mentioned the value Brian De Lore bought to the table also, and that's a fact.....where would racing be without him.

Says it all really, the only journo that does their homework/research is BDL.

You did say you're resigned to ''debating'' didn't you? not to be confused...so to speak....LOL

I think Reefton is closest to our way of thinking with all this, I'll make the point for the last time....I promise.....what get's my back up are these 20 30 somethings that never saw the horses the we saw.......saying Winx is the greatest of all time.......piffle........unless you lived and witnessed those great horses you aren't eligible to argue....[balanced] that is. When I left NZ I had seen or ridden against [same as Reefton's bro] the likes of Triton/Show Gate/Igloo/ Classic Mission/Daryl's Joy/Magnifique, Silver Knight to name a few Kiwi horses, then when I tied mine up at Flemington I faced directly into Bart Cummings and Colin Hayes tie ups.......on many occasions Mrs Rowley walked home, Kingston Rule/Shaftesbury Avenue, and along side, Let's Elope, and from Hayes camp, Better Loosen Up/Zabeel, from Freedmans, Super Impose, Schillaci, Mummify, Mannerism and God alone knows how many more absolute icons......it was a privilege to see and be with those lovely horses......all platitudes to Winx, but for Gods sake stop with this crap, greater horse of all time......Vo Rogue was stabled only a few doors from us when he broke the Flemington track record for 2000 metres......what he did time and time again to the very best was eye watering.....and the poor bugger lived on a diet of vegetable and fruit! Vic Rail fed what we all believed to be a joke feed, totally left field, but it worked......imagine if he had of had the benefit of current vet science.....anyway, I says my piece, and wear my heart on my sleeve......I wouldn't give up those memories for gold bricks, but I don't live in the past either....Thank You.

Eligible / ineligible Taranaki Challenge Sat
Rowley Mile replied to MaltedMilkshake's topic in Galloping Chat
Thanks Tommo, what a farce alright, the innuendo can kill a business, so if Cookson allegedly said that, he should be made to apologise......on TV......or, RIU should investigate as to who exactly went public with an allegation as serious as that......are things so crook over there media has to make up stories ...oh that's right, that's what media does.....or will we learn something......eventually. -

Hell I'd be upset if the media told the multitude on national TV that I had a positive.....and I hadn't........why the hell would BS let that out of the bag? Come in Tommy, you sleuth you. -
Just a tad different for the Europeans no?......they whip across to the States for the Breeders Cup etc etc.......but there are so many Gr1 classics on their door step.......France and UK separated by a tunnel.......also Frankel is the most valuable horse in the world, or was......for a mare to go there and win, Black Caviar is to be saluted as in the wonderful Alinghi of the FBI.......Boastings easy, but those horses that went and conquered wear their medals proudly......
-
Wally, you miss the point mate, it's through to the keeper.....it's not about who's the greatest...it's about the criteria for making comments like that........if you have a horse that's a contender and you travel and win, then you are no longer the contender, you're the bloody champion! Imagine if the mighty Muhammed Ali didn't travel, just stayed in the States and beat up whoever, we would never have had the Rumble In The Jungle, The Thriller In Manilla......imagine if the All Blacks didn't go to the RWC..they just stayed in NZ and beat up whoever ventured to Kiwiland.....unless you go and take on the best you are a contender.......and therefore your honour, I rest my case.
-
C'mon Wally, you didn't get that 'Monika' by accident now did you........KT and so many great horses travelled.....they got their boarding passes and took on the world......this mare is protected, she's a glass bottom champion and that's a bloody shame......Horlicks went to Japan and ran a world record, now, she was a champion.....once again, Winx wouldn't run 2-24 for a mile and half.......maybe she would, but hey, Horlicks ran that time...or was it 2-22? in Japan, against the best.......Sunline ran time all the time, against the best here and there...Hong Kong,... against the best.....unless you do that it's all summation then isn't it?
-
Ask Brent Thompson if Winx would have beaten Dulcify over 2000m at WFA.......Dulcify broke Shivarree's heart.......Dulcify was off this planet.....the best 3yo I've ever seen......and I've seen a few.
-
Oh geez my ribs are hurting, Dalghar's speed was amazing, Winx running 1-17.....oh yeah......she couldn't run anywhere near that...even down a well.
-
Did Winx ever win in Perth?......the Black horse did, he wasn't afraid to travel.....even back then. easy float trips don't count.....so many great Oz and NZ horses hopped on planes and travelled long distances, their connections wanted to see them against the best...on neutral ground......poor old Winx, because of the protection by her closeted camp, we shall never know shall we?
-
Have a bo peep at the horses Winxs beats up compared to KT......it's a no brainer, KT won the Expressway first up over 1100m. He runs 2nd in the MEL Cup with a huge weight, and self confessed pilot error.......we could argue all day of course as there would be fools that think she's better than Frankel, and of course you would need to be on drugs to think that.
-
Yes Curious they do, but no one over there is bragging best ever......even the connections of the mighty Treve, now that would have been a match race, why didn't some brain come up with that a few years ago.....maybe they meet in HK a 2 horse match up for 10 mil...winner takes all....my dosh would have been on the French cheval.......having seen both.
-
Kopia, you have a stallion over there called Dalghar....he ran 1-18 for 1400 at Longchamp, now in all reality do you think Winx could run 1-17 and change to beat that......please, Winx is a great mare, far better than what's lining up to beat her, but you may be too young to remember horses like Kingston Town and Manikato.....she wouldn't beat them, and as for going overseas, did you do an OE Kopia? if you did then you will be a better person for it......going overseas maketh the man/ woman you see....so too the beast.....and shuts up any debate once the victor........please digest.

That is what is so frustrating Hesi, they refused to take on the world,......she could have been known as they greatest of all time, world wide, but they just wouldn't do what all those brave and valiant owners and trainers of those great mares like Makybe Diva, Black Caviar, Horlicks, Sunline, etc etc......it's all well and good to be saying ''best ever'' but the proof is travelling to take on the best, like the ASHES.....if the poms didn't come down to Oz and beat the cricket 11 up it wouldn't have the same ring to it, same as the All Blacks, if they couldn't win a series in South Africa, but they do, and they are worthy world champs......WINX as good as she is can never be compared to those mares as they travelled, and in some cases, especially BC and SL, they won......records there.....IMO of course.
