  1. Seemed like they gifted the race to the winner, just sat back and let him dictate terms, no one even game to have a look, was over a fair way from home I thought
  2. Certainly looks a great day out, track looked good, was it used as a tote venue at any stage, a blast from the past seeing and hearing Ian Chambers, remember many a year ago going to an equalizer meeting for the trots at murchison, they had a little all weather track from memory, be long gone now.
  3. Been a few tragic deaths on that track, and one never forgets some of the fallen ones, many a year ago I think a young jockey Hunter Thomas lost his life, also Ray Hewinson, maybe both on jumpers, so sad for the families, and punters alike, one always pleased to watch a great days racing, where jockeys and horses, pull up unscathed.
  4. P Usually get a couple of coast horses go up for a run, to prepare them for the upcoming grass track circuit at xmas
  5. Deep pockets required, be interesting to see how it runs in the future, no guarantees.
  6. Yeah very good run, possibly a year to early for her, trainer always turns her horses out well, obviously had plenty of fitness on her side after a limited preparation racing wise.
  7. Talking of kiwi, I took lostcause who carried the famous kiwi race colours, great effort for a 2 win house, was trapped 3 wide, cover did help, but still gutsy run within 5 lenghs fron winner, a horse worth following, certainly a few unlucky runners trapped wide.
  8. Nothing like watching the winter cup or the grand national in an exciting finish from the top tier of the old stand, oh the memories, ronganui, 3 winter cups from memory, Red Barron, and the year All Counted just about caused a major upset for the south, a few i remember, and there's plenty I've forgotten, real shame a big part of the history has gone, but alas these days the earthquake risk obviously very high, seemed to stand up ok to the ones they did have, or maybe I'm just stuck in my old school ways
  9. Yeah was quite a disappointment, to be fair never has been my favorite track, just think it's sad from a general public side of things, that they seem to be un cated for, especially at the 30$ entry on top, obviously their not targeting the general public, even a portable stand, just something for abit of elevation, really only see the last 100m live, that's just my opinion, first time I've been there for a few years, I definitely think I'll be sticking to the smaller country tracks, that actually have a grandstand for viewing and the action is close by.
  10. I attended on Wednesday, but struggled to get any vision of the racing, bar from the big screen, which is not quite the same, so with the demolition of the old stands I struggled to get high enough to even see, unless there's a public stand that I don't know about, maybe there trying to encouragement more membership, the old grandstand site just full of tents these day, I enjoyed what I saw of the racing, but the 30$ entry plus 10$ race book, doesn't inspire me to attend anytime in the future, at least with the old stands you could get high enough to get a reasonable view with your binoculars.
  11. Kick it in the guts trev.
  12. Survival of the smaller harness clubs certainly is a battle, ashburton generally seem to have plenty of horses, times are getting tougher and costs higher, do manawatu still have the greyhounds, was trying to recall the name of the greyhound track there.
  13. Very true, could have ended up in the new 3$ school lunches, either give them the trots, or they'd be galloping around the playground.
  14. That certainly sums it up, always a worry when horses have those gutbuster runs, fingers crossed he's pulled up ok, I remember winning a hack race over 2000m metres with a horse we had a share in, sat 3 wide the trip no cover, and got there by skin of his teeth, for every one that can with a torrid trip, there be a lot that cant, just to tough to do.
  15. Yes very heavy the rain on the coast at times, glad to hear the rain eased in Dunedin, seemed a lot of surface flooding around the city, the hills got it harder by sound of it, hopefully all goes well for the clean up, and thoughts to those that have been effected.
  16. No show when your caught wide in good company, see how he goes next time, hopefully better.
  17. Not sure they know what rain is on the east coast, head to the westcoast and check out the mighty buller river, when sometimes water rises half way up the wall of hawkes craig, those big floods there a few years back certainly looked nasty, hopefully dunedin gets through ok, wouldn't wish a flooded property on anyone, be devastating.
  18. Shame to see another iconic stand bite the dust, who will be next one must wonder, the ole earthquake strengthening chesnut will see a few more no doubt, I just wonder what the odds are of an earthquake event coinciding with a day out at the races, when they dont race week in week out, fairly long one would imagine, but rules are rules these days and must be adhered to I guess.
  19. Interesting did I read an article where where they were looking at banning 2yr old racing, may have been in France, citing at 2yrs they are not mentally or physically ready for the rigours of racing, could have ramifications of the rest of the world if it happens.i wonder in the context of things how many are injured or retired, when they don't preform as juveniles, when another one of two years could make all the difference.
  20. Just goes to show, things not as bad as they look, awesome to hear all pulled up ok, don't think the posters are that negative, any passionate racing fan always hope's for the best outcome, so thanks to the bearer of good news.
  21. Grand sire who certainly had a story to tell, apparently spent some time on the station with another sire St REIMS, who apparently is at rest there.
  22. Won't be waisted, but I'm sure they'll get it back
  23. Can't seem to give some of them away, which is sad, but I guess time of the times.
  24. Got a bonus bet for my birthday,
