  1. Great piece of nostalgia, what a great field, all classy performers,
  2. Watched that There you go last start, thought it went a good, considering it sat parked the trip, didn't even see it in today, until it was in front, 101 fixed thought a very good divvy, fixed never seem to work in my favour, took miss onaki at gore 27s at lunch time, so got my bet on as not to forget while at work, she closed at 40s plus
  3. Poor meatlug, no wonder his recovery was slow putting a hoof into something that deep.
  4. Yes bit of a tricky angle that one, not quite in the same league as the reefton winning post, since they shifted it.
  5. That was some sort of win, certainly enjoyed the trip back in time, thanks again, notsure where you find the older footage
  6. Only on the coast, a patient ride, remember backing another of Mr Fuges horses called all ginga, never went any any good at greymouth reefton or kumara, was certainly losing faith when she lined up at hokitika, 4th start in a short circuit, I thought couldn't win, after many dubious thoughts and how horses make a fool of you, stuck with the ship, ran very wide on the post corner, then hunted up for the front, lead and won, 32s, oh the memories, just that these days, thanks for the replay, any our your favorites from that era, or good horses to race there you remember, or any from other readers.
  7. What a shame, I hope the rate payer of westland will see some benefits of the sale, but probably not, be swallowed up no doubt in the coffers, certainly some great memories over the years of attending their meetings from a young age, a great track for viewing the racing everything so handy an close by, Decoy lad one that springs to mind winning over there, been many a good horse win there, Covered n Grey a top mare that may have won 2 Miss Scenicland Stakes, from a punting point of view how could one forget the win of Our Spice trained by Mr Fuge, a must watch, tailed off by long distance in some of the worst track conditions seen, only to hug the rail and win by a huge margin, I certainly enjoyed the 50 fixed odds div, Mr Fuge always supported the coast an usually got a winner, some lining up three times on the circuit, I have the race on my sky, I'm sure the commentator Mr Teaz will remember that day.
  8. Also the amount of paddock injuries that we never hear about, be more than on the race track I reckon, out of site out of mind, unless your an owner, or it's a top stallion, and many of those been lost due to paddock injuries, horses are born to run, and accidents happen, just part of life, unfortunately racing always an easy target.
  9. Hence my apologies.
  10. Top horse, and great memories, had a look at the addington win on utube, yes the other race would have been rowe cup, heck we had some greatctrotters in that era, Basil Dean another favourite of mine. Sorry all for the change of tack.
  11. No response sticks in my head, had a devastating sprint, can recall him weaving his way through the field, may have been Auckland.

Hope all well up your way, given recent weather events, been a terrible run of weather you've had lately,
  13. Yes nobody wins, major losses for owners an trainers, I also presume jockeys missed out on unpaid rides, heard it was cold down their, track looked ok,
  14. Their barking up the wrong tree,
  15. Certainly s few ramifications for some, but doesn't change anything for me, always stuck with nz tab, can see why some are upset with the decision, as effectively no competition for the betting $, but if nz racing benefits from it long term then I'm in favour, the old saying charity begins at home.
  16. Yep sure is racing, gold definitely a safer investment, especially if you buy it at the right price, tining is everything,
  17. Like taking a raffle albeit an expensive one, no matter what you spend the odds are the same, no guarantees, plenty of high priced will never make the races, then the lucky Joe bloggs buy a modestly breed one, and turn out a good horse, pay ya money take ya chances.
  18. For me the the younger brigade only seem interested when it's a big occasion, eg cup meeting or karaka millions, how much they spend or don't, and I'm with the don't, most there for just the occasion no more, some others for the fashion prizes, which for me add zero to betting or turnovers, for me most younger ones that are keen on racing because they may working in the industry, or brought up with racing during there life, just my opinion on the generation of racing or more so lack of.
  19. A trainer forgotten from the past, think he trained at Fairview from memory, trustum, dryden, another couple used to be down that way, also B Jones who I remember won a jarden mile with Johnny Alone, by un fancied sire Blue Vermillion, I remember giraffe was a grey horse by standaan, a very good sire of wet trackers, may have won more over the jumps than on the flat, aptly named.
  20. Did she start riding with trainer Greame Jackson.
  21. Great to hear, all ok, can't beat a positive outcome.
  22. Yes I do believe it was, a horse called grand boy from memory paid over 300 to win back in the very early years but I know there was a big win div some years later at riccarton, was definitely an oncourse only meeting.
  23. From memory oncourse only meeting had the record for one of biggest win dividends ever posted,.
  24. He was a bit of an icon in those days, sold the art union tickets, then golden kiwi, used to bike everywhere, not sure if he was connected to a local horse called velebit, I think one of the locals from diggers hotel may have had a interest, but was a long time ago, not sure on the mundys, do remember chappie.
  25. From memory one of my friends dad owned parkhouses book shop, his name was Bob Hawes, was a good rugby player, but turned to league, played for Bradford northern, wasn't the done thing changing codes way back then, his wife run another small shop called the buller book club, which was next to the queen Anne store, also called metcalfs was famous for there pies in the day, the secret recipe been handed down, and shop is known as freckles, and use the same recipe, you'd probably remember the local barber tobacco nist at the time, Peter Phibbs, also had an interest in the harness horses,
