  1. You just can't make this shit up. Young Miss Waretini penalty decision has been posted BUT WAIT FOR THE TWIST. She received a 15 month disqualification plus is required to pay (roughly half) the costs to the total of $7090.00. https://racingintegrityboard.org.nz/decisions/non-raceday-inquiry-penalty-and-costs-decision-dated-19-april-2023-alysha-waretini/ Now here's the twist ~ GRNZ has very recently chose to add the Waretini property under the Great Mates umbrella. So the property with 60ish kennels will be housing greyhounds somewhere in the adoption process, collecting money from GRNZ for doing so, on the property of two disqualified people from the sport. Welfare is paramount, Meth is optional.
  2. Three of those races were PBD. Putting the dogs where they want to run doesn't help prevent it? The lure on the new arm is now much further away from the rail. That's not keeping the dogs further from it? The lure is now allowed to be further ahead of the leading dog. If it is getting further away from the field in the corner, it could be bringing the dogs in closer to the rail? I see Wanganui has reinstated their rail protection, which was supposed to be a test prior to rolling it out to all the tracks, several years ago, that seems to have been forgotten.
  3. Five dogs coming into contact with the running rail today. THE WRITTING IS ON THE WALL. Do something about it before dogs start having career ending injuries or killed outright. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/15434/stewards-report.aspx

The CD numbers have been dwindling for a long time. Just a few years ago There was a 12 to 15 race mixed grade meet on Monday at PN. There was a 15 race low grade meet on Wednesday at Wanganui. There was a 12 race high grade meet on Friday at Wanganui. Even with all those opportunities, there were still heaps of non-tote (tier 2) races being held to keep the dogs going around the track because they weren't getting starts. I believe what we're seeing now is the carry on from the RIU's ex-top dog's indiscretions & corruption, ignoring his favoured trainer's mishaps whenever possible & holding all the other trainers to account with an iron fist. He put the Ahern kennel first (now called the Cole kennel) and it now has all the power & say on the future of racing in the CD. GRNZ has had plenty of time since his departure & has done nothing to correct the damage he had done.

I wonder if GRNZ will stick to their guns or allow this to be swept under the carpet. Also part of rule 25. 25 Minimum vaccination requirements 6) Unless GRNZ determines otherwise, a greyhound must not compete in any Event within seven days of the date it was administered a vaccine. Best can scenario, they get their jabs this afternoon & can be available to race next Friday.
  6. Plead guilty in the end. Lawyer must be loving it. What a waste of $. Penalty reserved for a couple of weeks. https://racingintegrityboard.org.nz/decisions/non-raceday-inquiry-written-reserved-decision-dated-10-march-2023-alysha-waretini/
  7. So what's the GRNZ infrastructure manager been doing this last month or so? https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/15388/stewards-report.aspx 1). Following race 4 the lure arm was broken with a replacement lure required.2). There was a lure malfunction during stir ups for race 6. Track staff identified the break and advised stewards the issue could not be rectified and, due to the lure arms not being transferable between lure carriages, no other replacement lure was available to continue racing with the remainder of the meeting subsequently abandoned. Track staff later identified an area of concern on the rail where the lure lost power. The club will undertake any repairs required prior to racing next.3). Following the running of race 5 a mechanical failure was identified with the 318 metre boxes. The failure was unable to be rectified with all remaining 318 metre races to be hand started for the remainder of the meeting.
  8. Haven't ever seen this before either. Both the #3 & #8 are lucky to be alive after race 1 at Addington today. Click here for full replay
  9. Out with the old profile pic after many years and in with the new.
  10. I agree John. This dog is full of confidence & drive. I know that Know Keeper has won oodles of money in the past, as many other dogs before him have. He's well known for having superior stamina which has been easy to see. I've seen heaps of dogs with bravery (probably too much for their own good) going around the track. But what he showed yesterday if far beyond any of that. He showed track sense & intelligence by a greyhound in ways that I've never witnessed (or even imagined) before. Well done Gary Cleeve. I know I'm not a very positive person with anything to do with greyhound racing because of the way it's being run. Regardless, after watching Know Keepers replay from yesterday, he has earned my full respect.
  11. Really?
  12. I suppose looking at a 18-month DQ isn't enough for young Ms Waretini. Seems she got in some sort of argument during a swabbing from the first race. Picked up another trainer's dog in the catching area & threw it backwards. Also possibly assaulted Mr. Grant after the race meeting. The GRNZ board needs to hold a meeting immediately and stand down this person, even before her penalty for the Meth charge is announced. Her actions today, especially in race 12, were atrocious. 1). An investigation was opened and adjourned into the manner in which Handler Miss A Waretini conducted herself when in the process of swabbing the greyhound LITTLE HERO, and the manner in which she conducted herself when catching her greyhound in race 12. A further Investigation was open and adjourned in regards to an incident between Ms Waretini and Trainer Mr M Grant following race 12. Have a look at the catching area of the replay and you'll see what I mean.

  14. Boxes 1 thru 5 - 19 lifetime starts. Box 8 (alone) - 19 lifetime starts. Dog has won 6 races - 4/15 from middle boxes (3,4,5) - 2/32 from the outside boxes (6,7,8). Why does this dog keep getting drawn outside?

No comment on today's run from me. What I will comment on is Chch's 645 starting box being unfair. Obviously, the lid for the inside dogs is opening faster than it is for the outside dogs. It's time for the CGRC to weld a bit of reinforcement to the lid to keep it from flexing & put a bit of white paint on the repairs after it's been strengthened to make it look pretty again.
  16. Back to Welfare. Not that long ago, GRNZ introduced new weight rules as one measure to increase welfare in the code. One of those measures was given an emergency suspension today, as it was discovered to be inconvenient. https://www.grnz.co.nz/News/2994/Emergency-Amendment-to-the-Rules-of-Racing Since this measure was unanimously put in place, it makes one wonder if, since 3 of those members are registered trainers, if they abstained from the vote due to conflicts of interest. I'd sure like to get my hands on the minutes from the meeting to find out which members stood up for the welfare of the dogs by voting against the measure & which members voted with their wallet for the measure.
  17. The cost for nomination of a dog is $0 in over 99% of the races.

After watching the replay, my take is that it was field shy. It didn't want to push on while getting passed both on the inside & the outside after the jump. It was full of run after the final turn.
  19. Well well well, enough barking has got GRNZ to actually do something. https://www.grnz.co.nz/News/2985/Cambridge-and-Manukau-Update Hopefully they go one step further and can their infrastructure manager/track specialist while they are at it. Track were on the decline prior to bringing him on. Since he's been onboard, things have only got worse at an increasing pace. Two further tracks have been shut down (Manukau & Cambridge) since he was recruited to sort out Wanganui, which still hasn't been claimed to be sorted.
  20. Interesting to see 2 dogs that had their racing career & possibly life ended on Thursday scratched from race 11 today, the final race run today which was "voided". Cambridge's lure is playing Russian Roulette with the dogs on its track. How that sit with the trainers/owners? Do they realize it will never improve unless they demand it & stick to their guns? Owners/trainers have all the power if they've got the balls to use it. Just stop nominating & GRNZ's revenue stream halts.
  21. Where's the infrastructure manager/track specialist? Why wasn't he all over this & get it sorted on Friday & Saturday after Thursdays fiasco? Was it inconvenient for him to get to Cambridge? Was he busy in Auckland screwing that track further than he already has? Was he busy in Wanganui restoring the original & building the new track? The guys probably on $80 or $100k a year for his services & this is what you get. I simply cannot fathom the ineptness shown by GRNZ & the RIB revolving around welfare.
  22. Really Cambridge? Can't even get the lure to work at the start of race #1. Did the Stewards learn something last Thursday? Doesn't appear so.
  23. And disappear it did. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/15341/result-detail.aspx When you click on the replay for race 11, it shows the replay of race 10. No one will ever work that one out, will they? It was expected, as you can see from my previous post. More deception from GRNZ & they wonder why no-one believes what they say.
  24. Welfare not top priority today in Cambridge. https://www.grnz.co.nz/catch-the-action/15341/stewards-report.aspx Before the 1st race - 1). It was brought to the attention of Stewards that the lure lost power during solo trailing prior to the meeting with this being investigated by the track curator Mr N Rugg and tested to the satisfaction of the lure driver Mr M Lozell prior to the running of the meeting. Just prior to race 8 - SOLDIER BLUE was a late scratching on veterinary advice on retrieval from the kennel for muscle soreness. There was a delay to the start of this event due to a lure malfunction during stir ups. It was established part of the undercarriage of the lure had become detached and was rectified with the lure tested prior to the continuation of racing. Carnage in race 11 - This race was declared a no race following a lure malfunction entering the first turn. Stewards, trainers and club officials could not be satisfied the equipment was operating at an acceptable standard and the remaining race was subsequently abandoned. All runners engaged in this event underwent veterinary examinations as below.OPAWA LUKE (1) - referred to the Veterinarian where it was reported to have pain in both long head triceps with a 10 day incapacitation issued.NEED PROOF (2) - referred to the Veterinarian where it was reported to have a possible right fore radius ulna fracture. The Greyhound was transported immediately to GRNZ's contracted Veterinary Clinic for treatment. A 42 day incapacitation has been issued and the Greyhound must trial prior to racing again. Following immediate X-rays it was established no fracture was present and a suggested return to racing plan put in place. Notwithstanding this the current official incapacitation period remains.THRILLING FREDDY (4) - referred to the Veterinarian where it was reported to have a fractured left hock. The Greyhound was transported immediately to GRNZ's contracted Veterinary Clinic for treatment with this being followed up in the coming days. A 90 day incapacitation has been issued and the Greyhound must trial prior to racing again.GEORGIA'S GIRL (6) - referred to the Veterinarian where it was reported to have pain on both long head triceps with a 10 day incapacitation issued.SCOOBY BLUE (8) - referred to the Veterinarian entering the first turn and cleared of injury. Video before it disappears - https://youtu.be/Nuus21PYvWY

Oh yes, my mistake. The 1st of Feb has arrived. The new and improved GRNZ rule designed to cater for dog that don't chase the lure has begun. Now only dogs that cause other dogs to either bleed or be run off the track will be charged. Got it.
