Noodlum was owned by his breeder Mrs A A Wilson with Freeman Holmes who trained him and mostly drove him although Maurice Holmes did drive him in some of his 2 year old races which coincided with his final year race driving . Colin McLachlan did part own a horse with Muldoon from memory and can't remember it's name but certainly not in the same class as Noodlum. Muldoon didn't surround himself with great talent in some cases, valuing loyalty over ability. Still a great horse and sire

Got great results at the Lexington Sales this week. He had a top price of $210k and an average of $130k. Average 2nd only to Captaintreacherous among the pacers. Considering he only had a few starts in the US and only the one feature race win, he has done better than even his most optimistic fans could have hoped for. Amazing the faith US breeders and owners have put in him. Always BM still doing well over there. Now 4th leading 2year old sire & leading living 3 year old sire.

Agree we should be going to level 1 but I'm not as hopeful as I was. 90% Vac rate is unrealistic. I think Ak will go to level 2.5. Will be furious if they don't ease restrictions in South Island at the same time.

I remember Jack Carmichael had a horse called Rostriever Child had terrible form in Canterbury but seemed to grow an extra leg when taken to Greymouth. As a young teenager I remember backing it at Greymouth $1 each way in those days and getting a nice dividend.

I remember going to the Nelson Trots in the early 80's with my best mate. We met up with a young local family my mate had gotten to know and they bought their 4 kids along. Each kid was allowed a couple of bets which their parents would put on for them. One of the sons, he would have been about 9 or 10 at the time, picked a horse called Niki Minbar. His parents refused to bet on it as it had form of 0008 and no one gave it a chance.. He insisted that was his pick but the parents prevailed and talked him into a bet on the fav. Niki Minbar won and paid $64. The poor boy burst into tears.

My first win as an owner with my first horse back in 1985. The horse ran a track record at Waterlea (All Weather) for a 3year old. She was 2nd to last in the running until making her run with 600 to go. It turned out to be her only win as she was quite erratic. Will always remember Lord Modules Alan Matson win. The only time I saw large numbers of people spontaneously run to the birdcage after a race to greet a horse Also meeting my boyhood hero Maurice Holmes and spending half an hour one on one with him. Would be the equivalent of a young rugby fan getting to spend time with Ritchie McCaw these days.

Robalan was one of those horses that really got me hooked on Harness Racing. I was a young teenager then and thrilled when he won the cup and was on course for at least one of his FFA wins. Those black & white colours were iconic.

Good points. SBSW had a very low fertility rate in NZ so obviously some stallions semen seems to retain its qualities better than others as far as conception rates go. I like to stay on the safe side and buy into horses whose sires shuttle here. Captaint is the standout sire in the US and only available in NZ with frozen semen and doesn't appear to be performing nearly as well here. On the flip side the same could be said for Sweet Lou, though to a lesser extent and he does stand here. Just shows success in US is no guarantee of similar results here. It seems those Bettors mares haven't yet found a stallion they click with to rival Bettors Delight himself
