Taupo Trials Abandoned 25 March 2025 due to incident in heat 2.

What an arrogant prick,Sir. I am not disputing Micheal's record, arguably the best at placing horses to their best, Horses like Beks, El Chico etc You can have an opinion, equally, be ready to get a rebuttal on your opinion as it may come as a surprise to you, but when you single out anyone with your bully-boy tactics you will get a justified response. When I see Curious mention the name Snow and Bowls,I trust it is not the person I am thinking of.It would be so disappointing if it is,Just Saying. Now if you or anyone else wants $100 for exposing who this wolf in sheep's clothing is, just advise me in confidence. -

I have just read Curious's post and I hope it is not the man I was thinking of. I thought he was a much better bloke from what I had seen in his Bully Boy comments. -

I have watched this clown babble on continuously about Freda. I have known her for 50-plus years, and in that time, I would say that she is a very accomplished horsewoman. Yes, she doesn't get well-bred horses, and yes, again, a lot are cast-offs from other stables, but in my opinion, she has done a good job with what she has to work with. I have a clue who this clown is, but I will donate $100 to a charity to the person who can confirm tactfully who this Billy Connolly character is. When it is confirmed then I will critique his history and if it is the person I believe he is, it will be so much fun to embarrass his short career In Racing. -
Chief do not post so much rubbish,it does not support your debate

Don't forget Sir Bob Charles and Just Tommy won at Randwick and TAB I think it is Jaylah Kennedy

Hell no, after 6 months working there, I would always bow to the boss but had to run beside him to do that. I thought that if there was a place on Earth called Hell, it was Riccarton Stud and I spent 6 years in Hell.

I will stop you right there.I was apprenticed to a hardman, we used to get apprentices that were wayward. If I was riding down South, the plan was to walk down the drive a 1km drive with my gear, wait until the Midland bus came along, this was at 6 pm arrive in Dunedin at midnight, Get a taxi to Wingatui arrive around 12.45, then get asked to ride work at 5 30,no breakfast,I normally had to run a sweat, then go to wherever and repeat the process to get home. The boss would give me $20 and ask for the change, It was a waste of time to tell him the bus was $30 each way. I will guess the jockey you refer to,J Bates

Interesting on this topic,I was talking to an ex-NZ jockey who was on holiday in Aussie and was at a club and was talking to some Aussie's blokes when a race from Gore came on , then an Aussie said will blow me down sport, When did Sky start taking races from India.

Big win for C Wightman, Team Green and Pivotal Ten

I thought the same regarding the use of the whip,I had a decent punt on the horse because as I have said before she has got the X factor, but I noticed before the race she was a bit on the toe and sweating, and when you could see 300m from the finish she was traveling like the winner, in fact getting further ahead, I would have thought she didn't need to pull the stick and let her have an enjoyable day, Just my opinion -
It is a typo and to back that up the 2nd horse was trained by Barry Taggart who also wouldn't have been to Riverton. The Easter races were at Riccarton and Riverton where you could ride for 5 days of a 6 day circuit and the typist must have been confused.
-
I am sure she didn't race at Riverton, as after driving 7 hours back from Riverton I was told to be at the track to ride Orchida in work at 6.30am.

I rode many times for the Boys, I remember riding a horse named The Swagger for them, he gave me a terrible ride, he was on the fence and kept trying to jump it, Ali did not tell me, not to get on the fence,I wish he had told me before the race. I don't remember Orchidra in a 4 horse field, I do remember riding her when she won at Riccarton and then Noel asked me to ride her at Trentham when she also won, then J Grylls rode her to win the next start.

Gary,I see you called Pauline Wright, Prue Wright,Her name was definitely Pauline. also trained a good horse in Fleetwood Mac.i think a half to Polly Porter. Regarding the Twinkle and The Fantasy,Ali was always given first choice to which one he wanted to ride, I was lucky enough that he chose The Fantasy in the White Robe one year and I got the ride on The Twinkle and won. Their next start was going to be the G1 1600m at Trentham and again Ali chose The Fantasy, so I got the The Twinkle. The night before the races I got a call from one of the Boys who informed me that they could only get one on the plane and so I asked which one and they said The Twinkle.I said all good, but they said as Ali was the stable rider do you mind if he rode her, Clearly they wanted Ali on and even though I turned down half a dozen rides at Riccarton to ride her I had to forfeit the ride and she won from Mun Lee. They did say they would look after me, but Alzemheirs had taken over, I am still waiting but I hope they hurry up as not too many years left in me. I believe the same thing happened when M Mein rode her ,Ali picked the wrong one again. Just Been thinking I may have rode The Fantasy and Ali rode The Twinkle but for Trentham Ali had chosen The Fantasy and I was to ride The Twinkle. Both were top mares

Some interesting statistics from meetings recently. For every dollar paid to Wellington on/off course turnover was $2.68 .For Ellerslie the next day it was $4.77 At Reefton, it was $7.14; for Kumura, it was $9.88. I know the Coast is looking for another day to add to the circuit and with these figures you would think they have a strong case but I am told all the submissions put up by the Coast have been thrown in the rubbish bin. It makes you wonder if we have the right people to make Racing more sustainable for the betterment of Racing.

Kumara......mostly the do a great job !

The past president of the Reefton Jockey Club had some stern words for J Oatham after the last race. I am told that he asked J. Oatham not to return after the lies he was accused of, regarding the cancelation of the 2023 meeting. I know that he resigned as President because of the non-action of the RIU, who refused to acknowledge that no lies had been told by their man, which is not correct after I asked many riders at the 2023 meeting that they did not agree with what he alleged that they were not happy to continue to ride. This is a reason why the RIU should not investigate ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES THERE OWN. -

No Chief, unless he has put on 60kg since last running and I remember Eddie the runner and doesn't look like the man I was referring too. -

Just got home from the West Coast Races. My old mate Earl Harrison rang me a few months ago about the racing reunion and whilst we were talking he mentioned that the races on the coast were on his bucket list, as he is now 73 I thought we better go this year,so got it all planned and away we went.I felt that with the hospitality that would be on offer, we would shorten the trip to Reefton and Kumara. At Reefton meet up with Reon and Sheldon Murtha. Both were in good health although Reon had a hearing issue as he had been hit by a golf ball by his mate, some mate. Talking to Sheldon I got to thinking about what a waste of talent we have lost. He talks with fluency and sense. We caught up and had a beverage with Max Skelton and Ron McCann. Had a couple of winners to keep the expenses in check. On Thursday our host Paddy Molloy took us to a gold mine which we found very interesting and then went to another mine which is going to be recommissioned after some 40 years of no use.I was thinking that a small investment may be the go, but when told that when all added up, the the cost to get it operational would be around 30 million, I put the plan to bed for good. On Friday we played golf with Greg O"Conner and Tony Shaw at the Greymouth Golf Club,It was only memorable as Earl and I got the beers On Saturday off to Kumara and thank you to Eddie and Linda Gray for inviting us to their tent and hosting us.Eddie is a legend on the Coast for his engineering skills and makes so much gear for the Gold industry. Anyone interested in racing and coast hospitality must book this on their bucket list and NZTR AND THE RIU MUST NOT TAKE AWAY THESE ICON MEETINGS AWAY, A SPECIAL THANKS to Brian and Dianne Molloy for accommodating us and for the whitebait dinner,Love you guys -
I backed her on a couple of the Parsons team at Kurow, both should have won but appeared tactically average, but I agree she did look balanced when riding them out

This is not a crack at the ARC, but this money Laundering rubbish is just that, rubbish. I went to the races yesterday and got 1k out to have some bets with and I prefer to put it on a betting voucher. The guy behind the counter asked if I had a TAB account and I said yes but why do you need to know that ,his reply was it was for money laundering,so I said give me a voucher for $950 on one voucher, and $50 on another and he said yes I can do that, but when I went to place a bet I had to give the operator my details every time I had a bet and this was all for just 1k.I believe in Australia it only applies to anything over 10k. -

A filly who has got the x factor, how good is yet to be known, but a lovely ride to secure the win and I think I read it was for 100k, so credit where it is due. -
Taking of Hokitika,My mate told me when he was the Timekeeper at a meeting when the track was a bog. The official time was 2m 02s for the 1605m race. But he had heard that pacers could break 2m for the mile, so he quickly changed the time to 1m 59s

Was that worth a 5-day holiday? He was 1 stride early when angling out, anyone could see that Justadude was giving ground quickly and continued to give ground. I feel that if it was a senior rider on that horse a warning would have been given
