  1. Do not follow your thinking with what you say. I will give you a couple examples, I rode a very good mate named Top Secret and if you didn't her a good trot and a smack around the bum you would be towards the back of field and never in the race, but by doing this she would be handy get a rest a rest in the race and have a kick in the last 200m of a race. The other horse was Flying View,i rode him at Reefton and Pee Wee Dobbs,Lionel Pratt's son in law said you can not win if you are last,so give him a stir up and get handy,i will get Lionel in the bar and he will not notice, i followed instructions, but there was false start and it took me a lap to pull him up. he was in the rerun and from memory ran 2nd from a handy position, when he won the Telegraph he was in the 4th line on the fence and produce his strong finish to win. I was given the drag but he had 52kg in the Telegraph so i wouldn't be on anyway. The one thing i am certain of is if he had done his normal style of racing he would not have won the G1. Anyway my point with MS on the day i queried was the fact not that she was last in the running, but 4l behind the 2nd last horse with no attempt to improve until the 400m mark and clearly it was at best an ordinary ride and the lack of action by the Stewards on the day borders on incompetence, when in my opinion the horse wasn't given every opportunity.
  2. All the experts here, told me that this mare has to be ridden back in the field to get the best from her. So thinking it is very hard to win from back in the field at Ashburton, I didn't invest on her yesterday. So what happens she jumps straight to the front and leads all the way. I waited to read the Stewards report until it was published and they did report on it, but as per usual nothing happened to the rider or trainers. I assume no change of riding tactics were pre advised to the public/stewards of any decision to ride her completely different to her normal pattern of racing. The normal reply of our Stewards on incidents like this was not offered, eg The riders explanation was noted If we were to model ourselves on Australian policing of all things Racing, this would have in my opinion would have had vastly different result, just as the ride at Auckland were a rider misses the kick by 2 lengths, then takes off and leads by 8 lengths not stops to run last. The horse clearly was not given every possible chance and a charge should have laid.
  3. A true story about Boomer. He asked me if i knew anyone in the Warehousing Industry? As it turned out i did,his name was Tubby,a well known racing friend of many.Anyway Boomer asked if he could have a chat with him,did that and we turned up at the warehouse and you wouldn't believe it a truck was reversing back and Boomer asked what is happening here and Tubby replied that it was being returned as they couldn't sell a can of it,to cut to the chase Boomer did a calculation and ended up buying the lot for 2 cents a can and the deal also included delivery to his shop in New Brighton .Boomer had the tins all stacked up and was selling it for 50 cents a can and was doing well with sales, then an elderly lady came up and shock a can by her hearing aid and said"it sounds very water like and Boomer as quick as said that "If your cat doesn't eat this get rid of the cat,she brought 4 cans, funnily enough it was caller Wonder Cat Food
  4. Well i had the horse at G T Courts place and would take him around the roads passed the prison, there was a group of prisoners out on a work party and asked about the horse,i told them it was in at Oamaru and would win, which he did.A few days later i went pass the prison riding a horse and they ran over and said you would have got plenty, which i acknowledged but assured them the money was in the bank, so don't even think about robbing me,they saw the funny side, thank God
  5. Yes John is a top bloke and he brought Napiat, which is Taipan spelt backwards,2 races i remember well were 1 at Invercargill and 1 at Blenheim, the 1 at Invercargill was a 1600m race and the best field you would see,eg Grey Way.Judge O etc, well John had given a horse to G W Roberson, who sadly passed away a couple of days ago,the horse was called Shift Time which was ridden by an Aussie rider called Gary Palmer who i found out after the race how good he was.I had 3 attemts to shove him out of the way down dummie straight, with 3 failures and ran 2nd to him and he told the Trainer he was always going to win and paid over $80,but the Q was were the money came from. The 2nd race was at Blenheim,John always wanted to win a race at Riccarton at the time, has won many since then, anyway i convinced him to give him a run around at Riccarton and we will have a go at the punt at Blenheim,so he runs 4th at Riccarton and on to Blenheim,John ask how to back him,i told him to put as much as he was comfortable on to win and take the field in the Ist leg of the double, from memory to took if 20 times and wouldn't you believe it Grand Country won and paid over $60 and Napiat won with a leg in the air.The stipe at time was L Muirhead and he congratulated me and said you didn't have to knock anything down and i said no,but i would have I had too.Now John in those days was wealthy, still is but when i come to weigh in he was shaking with excitement.I remember well the night, especially when the cleaner had come in at 4am and John told to have the morning off and have a drink with us,she galdly accepted when john said i will pay you double what you would earn. Any way Pitty and John have had a great partnership, just a bit sad that john has lost his sight and does get the same thrills.
  6. Chief,he didn't dismount, he got dropped when she whipped around.I watched her going to the start and she was a hand fill, so fill credit to him. I can't understand why Harry has an issue with him, unless his behaviour has changed,as like you i thought he spoke very well and thanking the trainer who has and will continue to support him was well thought.
  7. Do not know the reason, but a horse named JACK something comes to mind. Anyway he had a motor car accident, the result being he lost a leg. Now a funny side to that was one day he was leading a horse back to the stables and my wife was following him some 100m away when th horse took fright and knock him over,so my wife[god bless her} run up and asked if he was ok,he replied could you go over and pick my leg up.I believe this still affects her today and could well be the reason for some of her Blonde behaviour today. If there was if a Para Golf Tournament in NZ i would back him all day to win it,very handy at Golf
  8. Can someone explain how Opie rode in r2 on Lady Koval, surely you would produce a negative prior to r1,does not add up to me, I do believe Ms Nicholas is and ok rider, but her ride on Row of Eights was worthy of a charge of not giving a horse every possible chance. M Williamson needs to be replaced or at least stood down for a period and yes I did have bet on Row Of Eights
  9. It was i believe his 6 start in 6 weeks, but the price was overs on form and thanks very much
  10. Who is the person that decides who gets the job of race calling? I have an idea that it was or still is Michelle Pickles. If it is her, what qualification's would she have to chose the best person for the job. The callers are asked to give information on a horse's chances in a race. I like to do my own risk assessment's on a horses chance, but do listen to what a caller has to say regarding their assessment on the field. The best 2 in my opinion are Bruce Sherwin and Jason Teaz, and yet one only gets the call on occasions and the other has been given the flick. Would it not be better for the TAB to do some analytical research to observe which caller has the best results, as when i go to a TAB and observe a punter who has listened to what has been spoken, they immediately go and place a bet, just my thoughts on this issue.
  11. Jason,i sincerely believe you were a good talent with your calling, but the one aspect that i believe was your tipping, especially down South. This made harder by the quality of riders down there, I am embarrassed by the skill level. I had several bets, including a large one by my standards on a horse named The Good Shepperd. He was pushed into a horse on the inside of him after the start with the horse inside bending the running rail, the rider concerned got a suspension. The issue I have is that i see a lot of this, only to see a rider get a warning and this is unacceptable in my opinion and that is why riding is at an all time low in the SI I would love to do a post show and bag riders and Stewards when Bad/Dangerous RIDING GOES UNCHALLENGED. Anyway Jason your can hold your head high, as i believe you did a way better than an average job and i do remember you saying that you had to pay your own way to meetings, which just shows me how badly the Industry has treated you.
  12. Shows the talent both Commentators have to call and memorise the colours at very short notice. In particular i believe Bruce is a great talent and under utilized by the Industry.
  13. Chief can you give more information on the member of the Judiciary please. I had a phone call from Christchurch with some people in the Harness game last night and was advised that the judge had thrown out 10 charges in the Inca enquiry and was told that more will follow suit. The same source said that one of the main persons charged, has paid over 170k in legal expenses for his defence. Unbelievable really, when you consider they have found nothing.
  14. The fine is way over the top. Look at the Lawyer,Rawnsley who was discharged without conviction and her partner Wills who was fined $750. This was a worse incident than in the Keegan case, as the country was in TOTAL Lockdown when this breach was done, but they lied and thought they could do what they liked and yet got off with a wet bus ticket fine,it wouldn't be a hour consolation fee for the Lawyer.
  15. I watched a race at Timaru and was stunned by the ride on Madam Sequoia. This mare was favourite and rightly so, given her form ,but the ride was terrible. What is frustrating is with the Stewards that presided over the meeting. They did question her over the ride, which Stevie Wonder would have seen, but they did nothing, not even a warning,I just find this unexpectable. This is why NZ Racing is light years behind Australia. Punters there get protected when incompetence is shown by Riders. If you have a look at some of J MacDonald's charges he has had to defend and not always successfully for not giving a horse every possible chance and then have a look at Madam Sequoia ride, they are light years away in NZ on policing races. I do not enjoy bagging Jockeys, but this ride certainly needed a charge laid. This way the rider who admitted she got it wrong in the report may learn something and punters may get protected from incompetence from our Stewards. They did find B Murray for using the whip excessively , which may appease the animal rights group, but start looking at the real issues that affect the punting lifeblood of NZ racing like this example i have given.
  16. Any chance of you disclosing your identity? I didn't have a bet in that race , but if i did RTP would not be the horse of my choice and i will be happy to have a side bet with you, as along as it gets a rider of your choice. Now do not hide like you do with your identity
  17. I did not have Pavlova, I do not wear glasses, i do not have diabetes.so not surprisingly you are wrong on these 3 and also add another one to your talley, your bagging of the ride I do have 20 plus years of riding experience and in my opinion the horse was not traveling and hence the reason it could not push Sheriff out,it he was traveling he would have been along side Sheriff not a neck back. The one issue i have and this can only happen with better Stewardship, is to charge riders when they continue riding there horse when it is laying in or out, the reins are there for a reason, but with the Stewards we have at the moment, I can not see anything changing.
  18. You may well have, tell me your name and i will advise if you did, but you will continue to hide, I am picking
  19. Not saying A Rodley is a good tipster, but he didn't want a bar of him, even though he started favourite, so he got it right
  20. What a load of rubbish, the horse was never traveling like a winner, If you are going to blame the rider , then next start i will have a bet with either or both of you, if he doesn't ride it. Let me know if you will back your judgement.
  21. He got off Showgate to ride Zarnia, the reason was he was taking L Pratts daughter out at the time,Showgate broke Zarnia's heart in that race and from memory she never won another race Does anyone think the McKees would have put Sunline in a 3200m race? There are so many stories about the champion mare, one i remember well was Glyn Tucker had a show called Turf Talk and he compared Show Gate v La Mer, he went for La Mer as he believe she was better sprinter. Anyway he went on to say that she was turned out in the lush paddocks in Otago. Well we were going to the races a short time later and were early, so went around to see her. No answer at the door so walked down to the stables and found her in a box and i will not tell you the condition of the stable . but we did fill her water bucket, It was enough to bring a tear to your eye.
  22. Food for thought, the only horse i know of the Gorgie sacked was Gates Ajar who had lost all form. Stan McKay took him over and good success with him,not sure of the number of wins he had , but it was several. Anyway, I will still stand by my opinion, Show Gate was the best horse i have seen and will take a some horse to change my mind.
  23. Chief, can you do some research and look for me,as you are better than i. Can you find were Gordon Thomson was fined for the way Show Gate was presented in the birdcage,i am nearly sure it was the Jackson Stakes, where she beat Count Kerau Spelling, from memory she had the scours and it was all down her hind legs. On Grey Way and Copper Belt battles, Grey Way a loyal strapper named George McKay and after one of there battles, which Copper Belt won, Mrs Pauline Deacon gave George a message along the lines of Bad Luck today, which the loyal strapper could not handle, so they were in the wash bay and he turned around and sprayed Mrs Deacon with the hose and anyone who knows her, also knows she was always well groomed, but after the wash down her well permed hair wasn't looking that flash.True story
  24. Chief, I cannot agree with you when you say how Show Gate was treated is Irrelevant. Have a look at say Winx, she would have had a blood test taken once a week, any horse vitamins/supplements, she had her own masseur to manipulate her muscle, had access to a pool, treadmill and any other aid available to a horses well being. Now i will tell you a couple of stories regarding Show Gate, I asked Gordon if he used Veterinary services on his Bonny mare, his reply was she saw a vet twice in her life, the day she broke down at Trentham and the day she got pregnancy tested. The Kurow president asked him if he would bring her to their meeting to show the public ,He asked if they had an open sprint, this was after having a week off, he said yes,so put her in carried top weight and won in a canter.A leading female equestrian rider who is now married to a leading owner who lived in Ashburton knew where GB kept his horses over Cup Week and seen SG and looked in her feed bin and replied that her pony would get a better feed.Dusty chaff and scoop of oats Anyway both Winx and Show Gate in my opinion were champions, but i do wonder if the trainers were swapped, if we would be still call both them champions, I would not think so for one of them.
  25. Brodie and any other posters that have little on today,Goggle a site called Rumble and search Dr Michael Yeadon and Dr Ryan Cole,in my view it makes compulsory reading regarding covid. The site rumble was created due to You Tube and alot of other sites TAKING DOWN ANY OF THERE OPINIONS.
