  1. Don't you feel sorry for Bruce Wallbank who owns and trains Midnight Edition who dead heated for first in the Auckland Guineas at Ellerslie today only to lose the race in the enquiry room. I thought it was a tough decision against Bruce who trains just the one horse and has had a horses to the races only 23 times beginning in the 2008/9 season but I guess the big boys weren't happy to share the stakes win and put in a protest and I guess we all knew how that was going to end up. Tough luck Bruce. Your horse went a great race.
  2. I heard that she has left Te Akau. I believe she is heading overseas next year to pursue another career. Freelance track rider in the interim.
  3. Horses from Hastings and New Plymouth have been trialing at Foxton for years Others have started to come from Cambridge to ensure they do a trial start with numbers in the Waikato. From a sale point they also see it as easier to win at Foxton.
  4. And Cambridge. No one wants to trial on synthetic tracks in summer. Ridiculous even scheduling them.
  5. And he will piss in too.
  6. Wild Night was given an average ride by Shinn to be fair. Race was over by the time he got clear air.
  7. Blinkers seem to work well on Queen Zou. Who would have thought? Has had them on twice for a win three starts ago and a unlucky nose second today when they were put back on.
  8. Well that set of blinkers certainly worked. Go you good thing. Even you must be impressed by that run Chief.
  9. I'll take a wild stab in the dark as I go to collect and say yes
  10. Well he is unbeaten in blinkers now
  11. That's why bringing him back to 1600m and chucking the blinkers on was a great move. Worked didn't it.
  12. Call A Friend first time with blinkers going on nice win just now at Tauherenikau
  13. Surely it is not rocket science. Club: Racing Te Aroha Date: Wednesday, 30 October 2024 Weather: Showery Track: Soft 5, downgraded to Soft 6 retrospective to Race 1, Soft 7 retrospective to Race 2, Heavy 8 following the James & Annie Sarten Memorial What does it say the weather was like? Answer "Showery" If they had some heavy showers after scratching time then obviously the track will deteriorate or do people stand out on the track with umbrellas? Looking at the times of the races suggest it wasn't too bad. The three mdn 1400m R3 R4 R9 were all 1:26.
  14. Bounding and Fix were a couple the Kelso's trained.
  15. Exactly
  16. Normal practice is to gallop one or two only.
  17. The fastest first 400m won six of the 8.
  18. Track was a Heavy 8, Compare to the previous meeting on 20 September on a Soft 7 where only 1 leader won.
  19. Not a tempo issue. Really? 8 from 10 with only one winner coming from the back with an inside run.
  20. I notice your topic re Caulfield track bias but no mention of the bias at Taupo last Friday where from 10 races 8 leaders won. Dummy Myer's runners won the other two, one over 2600m and the other Kopua over 1400m coming from back in the field but with an inside run on the better ground. If my information is correct a number of horses were allowed to gallop on the course proper the day prior with one trainer having well over 10 galloing there and other trainers also having horses gallop. (I assume that they couldn't gallop on the rail.) One trainer who was there and noticed how chopped up the track was after the gallops scratched his runners for the Friday. There certainly was an inside rail leader bias on what must have been better ground.
  21. Low???? We are inundated with jockeys at present and more are set to arrive from offshore.
  22. I hear Jilly Cooper is very interested in the story line though. She believes it could make into another best seller for her.
  23. If she had finished out of the top four she would have been scratched and bets refunded.
  24. LIVAMOL TO TE RAPA Follow the partial abandonment of Saturday’s meeting at Hastings, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) has made the decision to move the Saturday 12 October raceday and Group 1 Livamol Classic to Te Rapa. The move of the Group races is still subject to final Pattern Committee approval. The Saturday 28 September Group 1 Arrowfield Stud Plate meeting at Hastings was partially abandoned following a horse slipping in the first race. Post abandonment work was carried out to the area of concern past the winning post and a set of jumpouts were held on Monday at the track. The jumpouts went without incident with several senior riders in attendance. A risk assessment was undertaken by NZTR management into, not only the safety of the track, but whether the industry could risk further damage should the worst happen given the tracks recent history. “NZTR Board and management have carefully considered the remedial work that was completed on the track. After assessing all aspects of the situation, management believe it will pose considerable financial and reputational risk to the industry in the event of another abandonment at the same venue. Given the limited time to thoroughly test the track, the difficult decision was made to move the meeting to Te Rapa.” - Darin Balcombe, NZTR COO “NZTR understand the devastating impact this will have on the Hawke’s Bay Club and region, and we will work with the Club over the coming weeks to provide support and identify a pathway forward.” NZTR recognise the significance of this decision for Hawkes Bay Racing. However, the transfer will give industry participants certainty that a day of this importance to the industry can move forward without any apprehension. “NZTR is committed to the long-term sustainability and safety of our racing operations and intend to return racing to the Hawke’s Bay.”
  25. NZTR will harm the thoroughbred industry by banning jump racing - (theoptimist.site)
