  2. Theres not many that called me Chad Pete
  3. Have you got anything racing at the moment
  4. What a horse Happy Sunrise was.I was at that sale and was one of a few bargain buys.New somebody that was bidding on it. Although mainly unfashionable bred horses there were a few that performed ok from that sale A mate bought one for few hundred that won 4 races.
  5. His 2yo ran quarter in 26 ,well that what I got told so that a good go even around Ashburton. Also has a few others been going near enough ,
  6. Havent seen Perky for a while but he seems to be getting a few around him and some look like being progressive types. He deserves to get a good one so hopefully has one now. Still not 100% sure who you are but got it narrowed down to a few.Might have to go to Jewels just to see who there I know.?
  7. Gucci Cavallo in race 4 having first start for new trainer after a nice workout win.Always had ability but not the soundest or most tractable horse. One for Winton in race 1 is Tolkien.Drew 1 and broke last start then got checked turning for home when still full of running,i think,
  8. I went All Up Cheerful into Crimsom Prince Nice divvie for Purdon horse
  9. True Brodie. At one stage was the highest earning nz mare. Was sold for huge money i believe
  10. I believe it should be legal to be used as i think it would prolong some horses careers. It is widely accepted that most horses bleed during racing but some show and some dont.
  11. Yep,caught up with Scotty on cup day a couple years ago. He Loves talking about the old days.Cant believe how hard we all worked and then played just as hard.
  12. Was a nutcase but more potential than than it could handle, mind you too many oats does that. That horse was a freak really,Heaven Knows type of horse.
  13. I was supposed catch up with Scotty at Easter when up there but got too busy. Hopefully next time.
  14. Thought I was close as not many called me that Nigel. Or is it Boagy
  15. Yeah true Stud
  16. Heard he was real good bastard?? You got me thinking now.
  17. I dont agree Brodie about Addington doing it well. They have forgotten who keeps them going all round year. Cup day is just one piss up now and we dont get repeat business from most of the young ones that go there.
  18. They saying that but main reason is because Spicer and his Cronies are in the pocket of Addington raceway. They just using that as an excuse to deflect from Addington bullying tactics. The same will happen with Cambridge,i guarantee you that. Spicer has already said Auckland will probably put in application for 2020
  19. What part makes sense.Spicer has twisted the facts to suit himself. We still have the staff just not the ones that organised the last Jewels.Doesnt mean it wont be well organised. In fact may be organised better, who knows and guess we never will. Also cant understand how Barry Dent was allowed to vote at board level when he on Addington committee.Surely conflict of interest but mates looking after mates.
  20. Brodie one of the bonus that Ashburton had for the Jewels was that the start was in a great position, and the horses always parade in the birdcage, bringing the public right to the horses. Cant see how racing will be fairer at Addington as if you look at history of the Jewels amount of winners from each draw are pretty even,in fact.much more even than Addington over 1950m where the stats are quite poor for 2nd row horses. Will be interesting to see how betting goes next year compared to Ashburton 3 years ago.Cant compare to last year as tab site was down for half the card. Time might prove that the right decision has been made but I think this is the death nell for the Jewels,
  21. They will need Marquees at Addington if they hold at same time of year,as I don't think their function rooms big enough and no public stand.I think the price Ashburton charged was a wee bit expensive but not overly unreasonable.I think it cost me and mate just over $2000 for a table for 10 of us and we all had a big day on piss and very enjoyeable meal and dayHowever if you don't drink it very expensive day,.But I don't think we will be buying a table at Addington for the jewels.
  22. I think when he moved he may have lost some of his ownership base, that had good breeding familys.I wonder if the fact that racing and living as a whole isn't as easy going in the north as the South had a part to play.Saying that he did have some very good seasons up north and I would imagine a lot of youngsters would have sought his advice
  23. Yes Noeline passed away just before easter .
  24. Trevira was a favourite of mine in this era.Always got the old man to put my bets on and remember taking a double and Trevira won first leg and had field covered in last,Roughie got up in 2nd leg and double was $300 odd .I was earning $60 a week so was decent collect back then
  25. very disappointing.I live in Ashburton and couldn't believe that we had enough rain to call the races off.No way should the track be looking like that.Doesnt look good for Ashburtons staff as have had a lot of trouble with galloping track last couple of years too. I just hope our committee can bounce back, with this, losing Jewels and losing boxing day as well.It seems that the powers that be don't rate Ashburton or is it all just big bully boy tactics. Quite ironic how Ken Spicer is now in control at HRNZ and he was brought up in Ashburton and since he has been in charge we have lost our 2 most important meetings,
