Flashback to 1983 Heats before the Gammalite winning Final
Gammalite posted a topic in Trotting Chat
Well to get in the Groove ready for a big Interdominion Final this week, Check out these great New-Zealand mares from the 80's in Delightful Lady and Armalight. Both giving GAMMALITE a beating during the heats with class and determination. I tried hard but they were too good. (and Bonnie's Chance giving Poppy a hiding there as well) Armalight got left parked out in the final from a bad draw, starting as favourite, and went a great race running 4th. Delightful lady a gallant 3rd. In the GRAND FINAL Popular Alm drew 1 and Gammalite drew 2. Gammalite sucked along by Vinnie Knight and "Poppy' , and at the 400 looked like Popular Alm was going to win by many lengths. Gammalite goes out and around him for Victory late on !! This year , surely the 2 Aussies drawn One and Two once again, like in the 83 final , like an omen, HAVE TO COME OUT ALL GUNS BLAZING, and dictate up-front from those barriers. My Kiwi Mate and Sicario are no Gammalite and Poppy but if they don't take advantage of those draws and then end up back 3 and 4 back the fence, will never be seen again. Give it a go fella's !!! -
All up and down the Eastern Seaboard massive Bushfires are creating a danger and impacting people's lives.“ Even close to Brisbane here the Air pollution is building and fires caused one of the leading stables of Chantel and Pete McMullen to be evacuated. They still won the feature race at ALBION PARK last night. Chantel then quipped "We might have to let him sleep on the bare concrete more often” @ChantalTurpin . After being evacuated yesterday and taking shelter elsewhere, it was a rough night last night for Mattgregor but it didn’t seem to worry him! Quote Tweet Brittany Graham @BrittanyTGraham · 13h Mattgregor wins the Be Good Johnny Sprint - a far cry from 24 hours ago when he was being evacuated from his stables due to bushfires at the front gate! Meanwhile at Menangle NSW , half the horses due to race were scratched late due to the "atmospheric' conditions. The EVER TOUGH kiwis shrugged it off and took the first 3 home in the feature Group3 FFA with HAIL CHRISTIAN 1st, LETSPENDANITETOGETHA 2nd, and ALTA ORLANDO 3rd. They must be really enjoying not having Allstars around taking all the placings !!!!! Well done Beaut NZ horses !!

Round 3 Interdom Challenge. Will anyone catch Trotsfan?
Gammalite replied to Gammalite's topic in Trotting Chat
Just a small correction Globe, as VicHarness is claiming to have 3 Australian runners in the final. Sicario (now deemed a former kiwi , as is his trainer who has been in Vic for a fair while now) My Kiwi Mate (can't win for Aus with a name like that?)San Carlo ( likely to get in someones way at some stage) NZ has 8 x Purdon trained runners (wonder if they feel like a failure for not getting Another Masterpiece In as well). hahahahahaa -
Round 3 Interdom Challenge. Will anyone catch Trotsfan?

MajesticMan will be fine in the final. The way I see it you have more in your favour than not. 1.Your horse is trotting well in gait and looks great! Great trainer of trotters is this man. 2. Mark has only one horse in this final. If he gets an easy lead with Winterfell , granted it will be hard, but no one to help him this time. 3. Habibi Inta suddenly trotting like he has chains on his legs. 4. Marcoola has been unable to win a heat as an unusual driving selection. Can't see her steering to win a final on the 3 heat drives. 5. Tony Herlihy will be trying very hard to win with his trotte,r so probably NoHelp to brother-in-law Mark on this occasion. 6. MMan has an enthusiastic Griffins bunch of owners to cheer him on the loudest !!!!! Good Luck Mate !? -
You don't even have to sell them Brodie. Race them over here yourselves. Paul Court is on to it. Very Smart. Last summer he went to Menangle with HAIL CHRISTIAN 9starts for 4 wins 2 x 2nds and 2 x 3rds and $70k in the bank. Pretty good !! At home there in NZ for the rest of the year no wins , one third I think from 9 starts. Too hard against Mark. Back to Menangle last Saturday night for $15, 000 payday win again. Probably win tonight there too.

Well Gentleman , over the three nights nobody nailed a Quaddie but RUSTY oh so close in round 3. (3 wins and a second) TROTSFAN trotting beautifully out in front is still going boldly !!! 2 more winners. 3 Opponents hit the wall and dropped out all togeather in a mad gallop. WOLF left the pack ?. NOWORNEVER, well it is never for him unfortunately as a 'Bit of a Yarn' Champion, and HUNTERTHEPUNTER must of gone to the dogs, tailed off throughout. POINTS UPDATE showing round 3 points and new totals TROTSFAN 49 now on 155, RANGATIRA 48 now up to 141, RUSTY 61 now on 138, OLDWHITEMAN 45 now on 138, GAMMALITE 51 up to 130, HAPPY SUNRISE 47 up to 126, GLOBE DERBY 53 up to 123, FLAGSHIP UBERALLES 49 up to 110. dropping out were WOLF 90, NOWORNEVER 89, and a long and distant last HUNTERTHEPUNTER 63. 20 Points up for grabs with the GRAND FINAL Winners. !!! Good Luck .?

Well it is hard to believe Mark hasn't trained an Auckland Interdominion winner on his amazing resume'. Mark Hanover 1st in 1991 but trained by Roy and Barry, 3rd to Our Sir Vancelot 1999 with Bogan Fella, unplaced with Young Rufus 2005 behind Elsu, No runner 2011 against I'm TheMightyQuinn. Is Sure to change this year with all the favourites going in (even without Spankem) and the Aussies being woeful. San Carlo even getting in Bling It On 's way the other night to make it even harder for the Aussies to even get in the final. Oh Dear....... I signed on to 'stir the locals' with some Aussie banter and history with the great Gammalite, Blacks A Fake ,etc, but everyone has been quite kind about the Aussies if anything. Instead, I found mostly an on-going 'Battle' of unpopularness against the ALLStars Team. I found this surprising as thought they would be popular like the ALL BLACKS are for being so good.! So it seems, mostly even though the achievements are appreciated by many, the dominance is turning people off that are hard harness racing fans even. VERY SAD to see that, but anyway , onward and upward. Mark is a lovely gentleman and I had the pleasure and very fond memory of travelling in the back of a nine-horse transporter all the way to Ruakaka , the day he drove his very first winner with DARK AND DUSTY when we were teens. Well done Young Man !!! and Natalie is wonderful and good things come to NICE people and her record with BLACKS A FAKE (4 Interdominion wins , and 2 seconds in the finals) unlikely to ever be broken. Well done young Lady !!! I for one will be cheering Mark for a 'HOME TOWN" training victory. (probably get the trifecta even) Cheer's everyone and enjoy the accomplishment .????

This is a public forum. revealing identities is just dumb and leads to un-necessary conflict if someone says something that someone else takes offence too. Case in hand is have a look at your greyhound forum chat, where they are getting personal and horrid because they know who each other are and it descended into total nastiness. No Thanks.

Hahah well obviously can't describe illegal activity as people would think less of me , even here. but a couple of funny ones I have seen that were interesting was in Vinnie Knight often galloping his runners on their race day mornings at a full clip mind you, for 3-4 laps. He thought that would prepare them for hurtling around in a race trying to get up to that speed as well. In Queensland we can do lots of swimming excercise as warm all year round. Some have a cable across their dams, one place had a row boat and we could row flat out ahead of them up and down the dam. One horse one day went so fast it got past me and headed to the bank , and next second i'm on dry land heading across the paddock in a boat behind the horse hahaha bloody rubber tie of lead to boat wouldn't break like it normally would in urgency. lol. John McMullen, a great Brisbane trainer, swam his behind a rowboat in Breaky Creek next to Albion Park , and one that got off one day was heading into Brisbane river on its own hahah. you can have fun with em for sure.

What was the Question again ?
-
Yes everyone is always looking for that edge. Oh the stories I could tell ........lol

Natalie still has 2 sisters here. Kylie has won catch- driving for Grant while he is there. she trains and drives very well. Grants current wife got a year for pulling to one side to let Grant through and win a feature trot some time back. THE STEWARDS DON'T MUCK AROUND HERE AND KEEP IT FAIR. Trista has just had a baby during her year off hahahahah Vicki has just come back IN after a year disqualification from a race fixing incident 2 years ago. She only trains. Shane Graham was her driver then and was winning the state titles as a driver (beating Grant) but not back in yet and still fighting it out in the courts after 2 years nearly . poor bugger. Vicki will sweep to the top of the trainers (2nd to Grant who has 80 odd in work) ranks again soon. Great Horsegirls !!!
-
will they put him on Cruz for the Final then ? MR Orange.? Nat was great here in Brissy. Did you know she was married to Grant Dixon while here? and Blacks A Fake , 4 x Interdominion wins , wow
-
No mate, NoPayroll. I am retired after racing a few good horses for a few years , in my 50's, living beautiful Brisbane. Bit hot today at 35 degrees though. I just clipped the cat off to cool it down hahahahah It's a forum here where I have come to Enjoy the Interdominion . Not to worried about your need to know basis whatever that is. 1983 I was in Auckland for Interdominion and the GAMMALITE win, and we managed to cut down the tall POPPY . I hate poppies hahahaha, Rotten Popular Alm beat me 15 out of 17 races against each other.! So Auckland is Sweet Memories?
-
Yes it is hard to work out a bet with 3 Allstars in a race. so punters do it tough just like the opponents in those races. I had a big crack at Tiger Tara last year NZ cup , but The Fixer done him a head. Wish I backed up at Interdominion. But didn't even bother this year. (with NZ CUP that is) so I guess that is the way a lot of you guys are feeling too , with the dominance, as seen in this thread.
-
Wow! that is a great analogy with the MALL. I can see that would take the fun out of shopping ! and it crushes the little shops. Well good luck with your lovely trotters then, and hope you get to race a good'un without having to sell.

So the best training and driving team ever in New Zealand [Mark and Nat] need to be subdued? I am just getting the picture FLAGSHIP . especially from Globe Derby who obviously has had some runners against them (ALLstars) at times and his appreciation of their efforts, is low it seems. Excuse me from a distance, I am just in total Admiration of the wonderful performances they have generated, not realising there was a problem with it. I can now see the beaten brigade/opponents have had a gutful and are crying foul. So sorry that has happened to NZ harness.
-
I am surmizing you mean your horse's are on the end of some Allstar thrashings so is hard to appreciate their acheivements?
-
Apologies mate for my brash reply to your post. I was in shock at the reaction through this thread to a brilliant drive on Cruz Bromac. Some contributors here think they can out-drive Mark Purdon. That is funny beyond words that we are all putting here. The main criticism being apparently handing up the spot outside the leader 600m out has cost him victory. I argue that is Not the Case as there are contributing factors to that decision. (to trail Ultimate Sniper) The MAIN FACTOR was Triple Eight on some moronic 4 wide move was charging up outside them through a 27.5 second third quarter. This forced the pace to FLAT OUT. a long way from home. Marks decision to trail a top horse, that he knows well, around the bend was a brilliant piece of Genius Driving and has given his horse a breather for that whole bend, and the Chance to take victory still. Fabulous ! They were charging home in 27.3 seconds for the last quarter, for a 54.8 half mile. Good in anyone's language, and considering they were 3 wide for the first half as well just a stunning performance.. The Critics on this thread say "NO, Not Good Enough" Mark should of gone even Faster to hold U Sniper and Triple Eight deeper on the track for the whole last bend. Hahahahah Don't think they have driven horses at that pace before.and don't recognise brilliance when they see it . I'm still giving it 10/10 that drive and now hoping he [Cruz Bromac] wins the final.

TROTSFAN is leaving Everyone in the dust as he breaks clear of the field on a Big Solo Run. Round 3 heats Friday night and in the Pacing section , MARK and BARRY PURDON (and Nat) have an incredible 11 Placings out of 12 poosible in the 4 x Pacing heats run so far. UNBELIEVABLE !! No Aussie can stop this (sad) but can someone catch TROTSFAN ? in the Bit of a Yarn Challenge. points Tally round 1 + round 2 = New Total POINTS UPDATE TROTSFAN 48 + 56 104 , RANGATIRA 44 + 49 93 , OLDWHITEMAN 40 + 53 93 , WOLF 39 + 51 90 NOWORNEVER 43 + 46 89 , HAPPY SUNRISE 30 + 49 79 , GAMMALITE 42 + 37 79 , RUSTY 39 + 38 77 GLOBE DERBY 29 + 41 70 , HUNTERTHEPUNTER 27 + 36 63 , FLAGSHIP UBERALLES 29 + 32 61 PLEASE NOTE : For the 2 x Grand finals to complete the Interdominions on the Final night , points will be allocated 20 for 1st, 15 for 2nd, 13 for 3rd, 11 for 4th , 9 for 5th, 8 for 6th, 7 for 7th 6 for 8th, 5 for 9th, 4 for 10th, 3 for 11th and 2pts for 12th (last) in the 2 Grand Finals. Therefore 40 Points if you can pick the 2 x grand final winners next week ! Good Luck for this week first ! GAMMALITE is going for Chase Auckland , Habibi Inta, Cruz Bromac and Winterfell.
-
Agreed that with Nat on The Fixer, the video shows she was trying to come out a lap out to improve position but the horse wasn't able to do so at that point. Apologies for that reference. As far as Chase Auckland is concerned , why would they NOT want one of Big Brother Barry's in the final.? ? more Purdons the merrier !!.They can all work togeather as they did beautifully in the 1991 Auckland Interdominion final to great effect. Williams knew who it was going to the lead without making it work , and his chance of winning that heat was greatly REDUCED from that point, when not keeping the lead during a slow quarter. NOT MANY RECENT GROUP 1 winners give up the lead a lap out in a short race through a 29.7 second quarter. Very slow for that grade if you know your times.? We only have 1 mile and 2100m in Brisbane and No One gives up the lead a lap out in any race, let alone when driving a NZ FFA Group 1 winner through a slow quarter. Stipes should ask a question ?? Keeping main opponent in the death surely ( or I say definitely would of given Chase Auckland a better chance to win ? or is it just the steward coming out of me ? .
-
wow I always thought as most Aussies do, that kiwis were such gentle appreciative folk too. ?
-
IT IS fun watching Globe..... Good luck with your trotters and be grateful Mark is only half hearted with training those. For ALLSTARS The last 4 Auckland Cups and would of been the last 6 NZ Cups on the trot (except a 2015 hiccup Smolda beaten a head after galloping) that is a Dynasty and a monopoly more than corruption. And many more in a row to come as well I would think for the ALL-Stars as they rule the roost.. They will probably win those age races Friday as well with the next wave coming through. Brilliance that is too hard to beat. !!? The reason is the endless budget of their millionaire owners. They have NO NEED TO SELL. Anyone over there with a half decent horse in the lower grades invariably sells to Australian /American big owners ( Just like I did ) and even bring them over here to Aus ( just like I did) to get away from the Allstars dominance, the poor stakemoney , and the great sale prices you can get for NZ bloodstock. Sorry I have contributed to the demise of the game in New Zealand now that I think about it.???
-
Pay that ?, but I'm not a big cake fan . some of these horses are getting a piece of the pie though. So with Mark 'looking after Sniper' according to some, and Chase Auckland 'looking after Whitesocks' according to me, ALL 4 are through to the final for lots more fun. WELL DONE to team Purdon ! and the lovely Nat.
-
Gee Flagship , you are talking harsh. Ultimate Sniper is racing at a Lazarus like level at present. ( not that Cruz isn't ,having won a little race like the NZ Cup recently .?) Sniper is the likely favourite for the final. Mark's 10/10 drive came up a head short. No need to be pissed off. Just be Amazed how close he got !! Mark sure is genius.
