  1. you do need some though. Those Marketplace v Got The Chocolates clashes this year have been amazing. and you can show off your next 2 NZ Superstars. generated a bit of excitement . The Velocity and the NZ Derby were very exciting I've been Spruiking QLDer GUS the trotter to the Galah all year telling him how good he was. Paid $8 there twice , so you punting blokes might of got something. ( I backed GUS the 2nd time in the trotting FFA but missed the first unfortunately ) Good on ya GUS 🏆 . whatta beauty he is. Here's Another $8 winner for you Brodster. in the video. Shouldn't of paid so much against those very Weak South Island horses. About 8 of them in this video. The good horse tried to show some LEAP TO FAME death seat toughness though. great memories mate 😁😉
  2. there's always a way. There's Sponsors and interested parties such as the stud farms and millionaires who chip in to keep it going. They already chip in to the large prize Slot races you guys All hate . Races are just run to what money sponsors put up at the time . I went to Tasmania with a few Queenslanders when Blacks A Fake won the Interdominion . He picked up a million dollars as First prize. sometimes Sponsors mean you can race for better money . other years not so much. The WAY it's ALWAYS been. ENTAIN /Ladbrokes have been great for harness racing. I can't condemn their input like you blokes do. we need them as are a good sponsor. Do they help the NZ Gallops out as well ? Chief might know ?
  3. and deservedly so. It's lucky they're not low now like the general 4-6 k races they run all round Australia every day. But you got lucky and ENTAIN saved the day . (Temporarily you say) It's a Good thing !!! for 5 years you keep saying. In Queensland we are grateful that the ENTAIN group Ladbrokes props us up in the betting market, so we can race 5-6 race meetings per week for our cohort of about 500 horses. excellent stuff. you want to criticise the hand that feeds you ? , but if you didn't get fed ( by Entain) you might of been racing for half the prizemoney they are now by now already ? . And Deservedly So. Deservedly = Because you bloke Refuse to support the 'Product' anymore and slander North Island harness altogether, all the innovations , and you can Really get the feeling of how Popular the once great Harness Racing Sport is in New Zealand these days from the CONSTANT Bagging it gets on NZ harness forums lol. eye rolling stuff 🙄 lol😉 At least in Australia we still enjoy the sport (as a sport) and try and keep the small fields going around at Marburg or Globe Derby or Mildura or wherever. Ballarat even has full 10 horse fields tonight going around in $6000 races. You are right and that will become the norm in NZ one of these days. Oamaru racing for 10 and 12 K races today is just FAR to MUCH. it will be cut in half one day to 5 and 6 k because of the revenue . no one betting on those poor horses. so yeah ! cut the prizemoney in half and see how it goes from there? Why should they get more prizemoney when no-one betting on them ? Par for the course old mate. A sign of tough financial times for one and all.
  4. ENTAIN is a very successful company. and HRNZ has been very successful and done racing of 'The Highest order' for decades. So not sure why you keep thinking these Professional People are so Bad at their jobs all the time .? they not exactly employed off the street? they're qualified Professional people. and results are great. It's your results that you're worried about. and don't /won't/can't accept that people don't bet on harness (or even support the sport ,like in the Golden 70's-80's era , critically that were before POKIES and LOTTO. I know you had a political agenda and are one of those party supporters that will never change their support of a particular one, so think the other parties can't do the job. So really you are impossible to argue with . no flexibility 😉 Harness racing is Unique as a lot of the Officials actually love the Sport , and strive for new Innovations , and to keep the sport going. ( and for better prizemoney and racing than ever too) and are doing a Sterling job. But because the Betting is down , you think they're all failing. It's just a sign of the times Brodster. I'm sure you and I punt a LOT less than we used to. You guys won't even support North Island trotting at All ? so you're actually The Problem. if there is one . and can't see it lol 😋 (me too, and probably half the nation as well . racing is struggling too it seems? ) for example mate, I'd only find one in a thousand people in QLD that has even heard of champion Leap To Fame (Not connected to the sport). He didn't even get on the news winning the Interdominion in July. You wouldn't find a single person that knows/ or cares he won the NZ Betcha race and NZ FFA> ..... the golden age is over
  5. Not as bad as what you think all the time Brodster. NZ harness is near Best in the world. Because you have Great people running it and participating in it. Better to put money up for the participants by a betting company ? , than Not put any up lol. 🤣😂 5 years or 20 years , some is better than none 😁 They make millions from the betting mate. NZ harness just a small pimple on their radar. Aus harness even less of a problem for them , so they use their Sub branch of LADBROKES to support the Aussie harness . all year. every year. Don't worry if they cut funding . It'll stop the Aussie 's coming and taking most of it 😂, and your 'Bush' racing for average money will just continue on as if nothing as happened. Most Clubs have SPONSORS Brodster. They'll get the chance to chip in and support the industry again . Feed companies like the amazing QLD Garrards Horse and Hound already sponsor NZ for many hundreds of thousands annually. PRYDE Feeds sponsor the Big Victoria racing nights , and all the Group 1's. Vic still makes a loss annually because betting is a lot less these days , and not as prevalent as it once was. It's not just betting agencies that will keep you going . It's ALL THOSE OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES AS WELL. The Studs (farms) and their Millionaires proprietors sponsor PLENTY already. Plenty of Sires Stakes racing. Has happened for years . Long before Entain came along. TAB didn't run the show . HRNZ do. get with the program.
  6. Sir Castleton v Aussie Scotch Notch as well. they nearly Quinellaed 3 Interdominion Grand Finals and were both tiny little trotters but big in heart. Don't mention Poppy. that's 2 wins for Gamma and 15 for Popular Alm in 17 race clashes. (think he fluked some 😉) Armalight and Bonnie's Chance had quite a few great clashes and won a NZ Cup each amongst the action, during their races against each other. yep . to win the Trot Grand Final at Addington. No Response had a great arch rival too, in Scotch Tar. They won a stack of races between them. (Wolfie drive Scotch Tar in that Interdominion Final that No Response won , but galloped to the back and ran 7th in the end unfortunately. he was a very difficult horse to drive)
  7. Here's a tribute of sorts with the Great man TAB 4 Ever , Gary who has passed away recently. Here he is giving us some of his Positive Vibes and thoughts back last Summer after WINNING the Hunter Cup night BOAY competition. He is mentioning the syndicate racing that he was a huge part of through his life. he is just speaking about here above in a couple of posts. TABman Narrowly defeating the Brodster on the night here , and it reflected in his comments about how lucky he felt through life and so that was nice to see . he appreciated the great sport for the racing and participants more than the money, and got to mix with the race winning connections each week as a race night stand Steward for the ATC. The results on this thread show > Many great kiwi horses took on the best Aussies on our Great Southern Star night at Melton Victoria, that matches the 2 great meetings at Addington this week. Swayzee defeated Leap To Fame in the Hunter Cup this night (Republican Party 3rd) and I see in the results a EMMA Stewart trained horses running 2nd in race 4 . named KINGMAN , driven by Luke McCarthy at odds for her, and it helped TABman win this comp on the night too 👍🍻. And now KINGMAN is a NZ Cup winner 9 months later this week. 🏆 rest in peace TABman . thanks for your BOAY contributions.
  8. oh no. 😔 that is quite flattening. I really liked that guy , and he always was totally nice to myself and we enjoyed many interesting conversation at BOAY. Including chatting about LEADERBOARD winning the Grand National and much more stuff like that. He always helped increase my knowledge on topics and was a pleasure on BOAY to correspond with here. I'll miss him here, but am delighted to see he had a helping hand in so many projects and sports , That it filled his lifetime with great enjoyment and many fantastic moments. North and South Island . He had to fight to fight against Auckland bashers here , but stuck to the task to defend the people he mixed with around him in Aucland with Gusto , and intelligence. Loved his ATC trots and Karaka Millions . on ya Gary. R.I.P Gary Williams . a fine kiwi TABman.
  9. I think Walt was pretty crook , and had returned to his native Nelson from Auckland after an absence of some years, to enjoy memories from the past that he kindly shared with us here for a time. seemed a kind and knowledgeable bloke. Hesi was just reflecting on several regular posters at forums over the years that had passed in recent times. I guess we have quite an aged cohort , so mostly quite a few are battling health issues. Condolences to the family and friends of Gary Williams. that was a long article on him that you referred to on the HRNZ with his sudden passing . he had quite a history. Lately = A member of the ATC race night Steward team that helped with the co-ordination of syndicates, winning owners and trainers and the like on race nights. I don't recall 'TAB 4 Ever' mentioning these activities so feel he is different person ?, but did race in both codes as Mr Williams did in Syndicates and the like (including Changeover in the Cup for Mr Williams ) many folk do race both codes of horses, and one friend I write to, and was competing with in on-line racing comp's in NZ , does have current very handy trotters in the North Island, and also shares in Te Akau gallopers as well. So I think this type of owner is not uncommon in NZ. Is great these type of blokes supporting the racing scene and wish them well.
  10. Final Race result race 13 Addington Congrats to Ranga with a fine 1st 3rd combo with Lazarus Effect and Arthur Shelby in the final to draw 12 points. 11. tell ya what . Let's give Ranga 'The Lazarus Effect ' as well . He won his last start at Kaikoura and It's been such a great day , i'm feeling super generous, so 'Double chance to Ranga' to take the day with his Winner winner Chicken Dinners. race about to go.
  12. they are going spot on terrific too. Be interesting to see if you're right (and Ferguson does take a sit) in the NZ Derby that will be on soon. The Classic Blue Riband race will be the Ultimate Show-down between the 2 . maybe in 2 weeks time ?
  13. the double Interdominion Champion salutes . Leap To Fame burns up the 2 Best horses of Nz , to make up for his narrow NZ Cup defeat. 15. How good is harness racing in NZ really.? That is a just another great race with great Horses and horsemen fighting it out for the Big Bucks in the Velocity. A year ago I said to Grant you'd Win the VELOCITY in a years time when he went to NZ with Aroda for the Cup. He said 'Whats the Velocity?" lol . well you didn't win it Grant so don't worry . (he Won the Rising Sun instead) but a good 3rd behind 2 Great NZ horses in Got the Chocolates and Marketplace. A year ago I said here that Got the Chocolates would be a Derby winner. and be John Dunn's best horse. Well he is turning into their best horse , so am halfway there, but was well beat in the Great Northern Derby by Marketplace. But you can Feeeel the tide turning . and that was only 40 bucks that trifecta just now in the Velocity . But WHAT a QUALITY one it was 🏆👍 Anyone impressed in NZ ? or are you just waiting for Westport or Gore .
  16. Race 10 The NZ trotting FFA. that was exciting . Love old GUS , and beating the great old NZ stagers of Muscle Mountain and Oscar Bonavena too. 2 of the fastest Trotters ever to win all those races at Addington over many seasons now. gutsy 2nd and 3rd. Gamma has out-trotted old adversaries the Chief Stipe (Muscle) and The Galah (Oscar) at last to take the Day 🏆. and the Trifecta at $150 -1 as well. thanks for playing 👍💰 Rangatira joining in the action with 8 points as well , after GUS had trotted to that stunning victory in the Dominion on Tuesday. nothing left to say now have picked self up off the floor but Wahoooo ! after that. Gamma very proud of his contribution to trotting (squaregaiters) in Queensland and has just witnessed the ultimate reward. GUS the legend . my goodness. what a great day. POINTS UPDATE After Race 10 The NZ trotting FFA The Ladies Team 34 points, Gamma 32 pts , Ranga 30 pts , Chief 20 pts , Galah 14 pts, Brodie 12 pts
  17. Go GUS . you know its a good thing , don't you guys ?
  18. No Points earned race 8 the Southern Mares race. Race 9 Result Sires stakes Fillies . Great result for Team Dalgety with the Quinella . Ranga is the winner winner with the Winner All of Me getting the dinner. and picks up 8 points . 'The Queens Gambit' with Kimberley Butt reels in 6 points for the Ladies. River is 4th for Blair Orange , so its a couple of points for the Galah. POINTS UPDATE After Race 9 The Ladies Team 34 points, Gamma 24 pts , Ranga 22 pts , Chief 14 pts , Brodie 12 pts , Galah 10 pts Now it's time for the Queenslanders . The FFA's are coming !!!
  19. Race 7 result Mid class trot. Bob Butt and Mark Purdon never a hope off the handicaps with the 2 Best trotters in the race. Anyways , the girls up front were terrific with Sam O , Kimberley B and Sheree nearly running the Trifecta. 3 Mares did run the trifecta, (Freya 3rd) with the Quinella going to the Ladies team in the BOAY challenge and 14 points . with Rush and Paige running very well indeed 1st and 2nd. Chief gets his 3rd x 4th Placing in a row , so another 2 points with 'Master Class'. POINTS UPDATE After Race 7 The Ladies Team 28 points, Gamma 24 pts , Ranga and Chief both 14 points , Brodie 12 pts , Galah 8 pts .
  20. yes, her manners were terrible last start too. was always a huge risk today. Habibti Pat. Just like 'Dreams Pat' in the trot that just went. plenty of money lost on it this week too. The name PAT is turning into a jinx on them . It's a shame that happens as they're pretty good when they are able to keep themselves balanced.
  21. Race 4 No points scored in that race by any team. Race 5 result . The Ascent Slot race for 3 year old trotters. An Aussie Quinella. 🏆🇦🇺. after Keayang Zahara took the first edition last year , the Aussies step it up a notch and run the Quinella. James Herbertson , Australias leading driver at just 25 years old , powers away with the Ascent on TRACY THE JET. Trainer Jess Tubbs reduced to tears in the stable area, without her late husband Greg Sugars here to see it.😪 For the BOAY challenge it's 14 points to Gamma for the Aus Quinella (Gatesy's gem 2nd) , Rangatira has 'jetted 8 points' too. Meant to Be runs on for Chief from the back and the North Island to get him 2 points in 4th spot. the Galah galloping badly with Habibti Pat gets the zero. POINTS UPDATE After Race 5 Gammalite 24 points , The Ladies and Ranga both 14 points , Brodie and Chief both 12 pts , Galah 8 points ,
  22. Race 3 result Trotters 2 year old Sires stakes. group 1 for Brent Lilley and Blair Orange as Kyvalley Ray sits parked and grinds em' down . it's 8 points for The Galah and Gamma. Petite Armour trots well for 2nd as John Dunn tries to win it from the top , but is run down late. Who's Ya Daddy a solid 3rd for the Brodster. 4 points for him. POINTS UPDATE After Race 3 The Ladies 14 points , Brodie 12 pts , Gamma 10 pts, Chief and the Galah 8 points , Ranga 6 pts.
  23. Race 2 Result . Everyone wanted to win that race. Every driver having a go at some stage , so tyres were coming off rims and All sorts of things . Those drivers super keen to get in the action. Tim Williams does Best , even after getting posted 😳 Haley Jaccka the mare was Super tough like KINGMAN and just kept going 👍 . The Ladies team take the 8 points. The Chief Happy to see 'Opie' Bosson riding hard and getting up for 3rd for him. ' it turned out to be a Cracker 'Opie !! like a bit of Fred Dagg lol.😂 POINTS UPDATE After Race 2 The Ladies 14 points , Brodie and Chief both on 8 points , Gamma 2 pts. The Galah and Ranga 0.
  24. 2 late editions . For team Australia in Race 3 Kyvalley Ray has Brent Lilley as Trainer. he's An ex-pat kiwi , but he's been based in Victoria for nearly all this century , so we'll call him an Aussie and get his horse in Team Gamma 😁🍻🇦🇺 For the Ladies team in Race 7 . young Crystal Hackett has a mare in that's come all the way from Auckland , so better pop it in a team . a horse called COURMAYEUR . hope it Wins for Crystal .
  25. Race 1 Result. Brodie shows them how its done with a Storming win with his TACTICAL BID 1st in the opener. The Ladies are 2nd with Judy J, Chief up the fence for 3rd , and Andy Hall gets 4th for the Aussie driver for Gamma . near $6000 for that rough tipsters First 4 lol 😎 The Galah dropped away with the favourite of Mark Purdons to get nothing (a bit surprisingly) POINTS After Race 1 Brodie 8 points, The ladies 6 pts, Chief 4 pts, Gamma 2 pts. The Galah and Ranga 0.
