Found it thanks. Looks like one of the Brodsters TIPS just got the money too. Fair few collecting .ππ reminds me of when you could back the Allstars with confidence. π°π

You're All good to go mate. You're not in Country Victoria so should be safe . and INCA has been called off NZ there so Police not interested in the slightest with the good old Manawatu trots. Forbury's is saying Don't back the 'Dickie' Bird though , driving Telfers tomorrow. better dodge him then. So I'm ALL -In on a few Crystal Hackett - Harrison Orange Quinella's instead. The new mana bright lights will help me find the right window to collect at .ππ°π

Greg's wife Jess has popped in 3 runners that Greg has campaigned for years all round the Place , with 3 of his good friends driving in honour to the great horseman. Looks a Special for the Trifecta with Auckland Cup winner Better Eclipse , old NZ warrior Triple Eight ( who still has some NZ owners I think ) and is up to start 160 in this and closing in on $1,000,000 earned bit by bit. The 3rd horse ''Rock n Roll Hammer' is a foal of 'Twist and Twirl' , the 2022 NZ Broodmare of the year, so is a half brother to the great 'King Of Swing' . but only half as good as well π. Old Clevedon trainer John Newberry still going strong. Had all the 'Brydon' named horses years ago with his dad and uncle . see his son driving the number 1 here. Here it is . No they haven't Crashed crashed in a crash and burn Chiefy. It's just they are not winning the features like they used to. Still good bucks being earned . 'Chase A Dream' a great 2nd in the BETCHA million recently to 'Leap To Fame' . but horses like VESSEM , good enough for 2nd in the NZ Derby in December for example just had the 2 x 3 yearold wins, and as a 4 yearold this year has come back with 2 wins from 7 starts and $34,000 . very modest by previous Allstar standards. DEMON BLUE , good enough for 2nd to Marketplace in a Group 1 ACE race in November, back now as a 3 year old has zero wins from 5 starts and is struggling to keep up. Even the very best Allstars runners Oscar B trotting , with one win from 4 starts since returning from Oz ( and that win was a 5 horse field) is getting beat. and best Pacer Chase A Dream Only has one (1) win from his last 8 starts, and was beaten in both the BIG race features at Addington in the Velocity and the NZ Derby. you can bet against their horses now. The Allstars stable not winning like they used too. The racing is Great still though !!! well done NZ harness.

I think you see some valid points through the ideas. Newmarket posted one of the treatments that posters at this site didn't like years ago, early in this thread . and seems rightly so, as the method is going to be regulated . Make no mistake that the best horses around get the best most expensive treatments. Chief and Galah argue often about where the 'gear' comes from . and availability. well that is up to each Trainer. All horses get some treatments of one type or another , just like any racer under stress . E.g those crazy cyclists in Europe that perform super human feats day after day in the Grand tours. Many like Lance Armstrong are caught out eventually via one method or another if breaking prescribed rules and limits. same for horses. (or their trainers) All these NZ harness trainers are fine horsemen (and women) who most have been doing horses all their lives . They are always going to be competitive, even as the next generation catches up. They are working hard at it 7 days a week , and quite a few stables are Sharing the Limelight at present. ALLSTARS have won stacks of races , especially across the generation that included Natalie Rasmussen. Now they have shifted location and structure and persons working the horses, things change. Not just the treatments. so with this thread the figures (race results) are showing , that you can now Bet against the Allstars , and get a run for your money nearly all the time now. I respect their past results and always used to take them in my selections. but am currently quite happy to bet against them now. Didn't include any of their (ALLSTARS) nine runners in my bets at Auckland on Anzac Day so thought their aura is over as have been a big fan and often took their runners as anchors. they didn't win a race , and the great stables that Won the 5 x Group 1's Friday are well and truly' up in their photo finishes now.

Com'on Galah. The guy was just pushing his own personal agenda , like a big elephants arse , and you know it. It perfectly obvious . Didn't even have the decency to mention Greg by name but quite happy to try and discredit his Medical decisions that he knows ZERO about. Not a skerritt of respect for the dead. Complete Zero knowledge of Greg's medical condition. don't support that sort of comment. terrible and callous. Anyway , I didn't know Greg personally but his contribution to the harness world was first class. Not only by preparing his team with his wife Jess Tubbs. to Win a heap of top races . He was used for his driving talents, by some of the greatest stables going including the leading one of Emma Stewart. thankfully, Brittany Graham had some lovely words on Instagram yesterday where she posted her tribute while attending Invercargill for Trackside TV. they would of broadcast her as well . more fitting words than posted by some. RIP Greg.
-
Well stick your head back in the elephant arse , since you're looking around too much making up Total Crap and showing no respect for a recently departed great of the harness racing world. Not even a nice comment to make about the great man , the late Greg Sugars, but a stain on a thread with people passing on their condolences. You would know ABSOLUTE ZERO about Greg Sugars health condition/history and come out with this rot. It's perfectly Obvious you should pull your head back in .

Craig got the job done by not giving in to John Dunn with his attack of throwing all the 'Chocolates' at him. A very convincing Win in FAST time by Marketplace. He is the real deal alright. lucky he drew ONE. π Craig back to 'helping' Nathan Williamson in the the Southern Oaks today in the deep South. Got the previously unbeaten Filly 'UTAH Jazz' well beat with a poorly rated drive out in front . Just went faster than he needed too and gassed her lights out. Probably thinking the fast tempo would suit stablemate Captain's Mistress I spose. she didn't win it anyway. wonder how WAG Star will go today ? can he drive a winner or not lol π€£ Don't know how CFerguson gets all these good horses to drive ? is he the best free lancer going or something ? possibly better than Jonny Cox I spose.π€ Got one fluke narrow win with 'Don't Stop Dreaming' for Cullens (from 5 back on the fence at the 1/4 mile ) and then a couple of average drive's on him afterwards. and got Marketplace beat with a couple of average efforts at AKLD past month. π

only a very young man. something has gone terribly wrong. Trotting has the Interdomion as it's Traditional Pinnacle of success. Greg dominating with the Grand trotter JUST BELIEVE , clean Sweeping 2 series in a row . all 3 heats and then the Grand Finals at Melton 2022 and Albion Park Brissie 2023. Greg nearly winning the Pacers Grand Final in 2023. with BETTER ECLIPSE running 2nd to the local hero named Leap To Fame (always hard to beat) NZ Cup winner Swayzee was 3rd. But just prior to that Greg had his BIGGEST Interdominion Thrill winning his first one in 2021. with a horse trained by an ex-pat New-Zealander , and here he is with MAORI LAW (defeating the kiwi 'Majestic Man' of Williamsons and his own future star 'Just Believe' was 3rd before he took over the training . A great story here for the great man Greg Sugars . RIP Greg. the harness racing scene will miss you deeply. Square-gaiters will have plenty to 'play for' in 2023. Sugars strikes to give Brosnan an epic double December 11, 2021 Michael Court WINNING one Inter Dominion Trotting Championship is pretty special. But to back up and win another one β 42 years later Fullstop or comma. well, thatβs the stuff legends are made of. Yet thatβs what Richard Brosnan did with Maori Law at Tabcorp Park Menangle tonight, as leading reinsman Greg Sugars scored a commanding win in the $150,000 TAB-sponsored Trotting Championship, leading most of the way to beat Majestic Man and Just Believe by one and a half metres in a 1:59.4 mile rate over the marathon 3009m journey. Maori Law is co-trained by Brosnan and his son Emmett in Victoria and it was Richard, regarded as a legend in the sport, who won with No Response at Christchurch way back in 1979. For Emmett and Sugars, though, it was their first win in this big feature β and it was a night to savor. βIβm on cloud nine, Iβm just over the moon with this,β said Sugars as he trotted back to the enclosure.

oh well , at least they are still in business and supporting the industry there at the links . you might get your 'Mana' back at the 'Watu' if you visit there? π . One things for sure is you that won't find the Brodster hanging around there π€£.

Ranga has lost his Mana ? what happened young fella ? follow too many Brodster Tips ? π€£π

the rich NULLIBOR slot race ran last night in the Wild West. Swayzee tried to sit in the breeze and out-stay them. Came up a bit short in 4th beaten a length. Got the leader Minstrel beat too by attacking . finished in a 1.54 mile rate. Three NZ breds were the TOP 3 , picking up 100's of 1000's dollars each. they'll be back in NZ to buy some more soon so keep the breeding going boys. The amazingly successful 'Hall' and 'Bond' teams filling the placings. (the Halls winning millions with I'm TheMightyQuinn a while back including 3 Interdominions.) 2nd horse old HEZA SPORT from Canterbury still part owned by CJ DeFillipi, and the 3rd placed MINSTREL still part owned by many kiwi's including Robin Butt and his wife. So an Excellent New Zealand result. Not sure if any of these owners of the new Nullibor Champ MISTER SMARTEE are in NZ or not?? but here's the results with the winners names . People don't waste their punting dollar like they used too Brodster. I'm a big supporter of NZ harness and didn't put much on. and when you see what happened to Muscle Mountain ( stupid standing start stuff once again destroying a race) you wouldn't bet on that with stolen money. The racing was terrific as usual though , and you missed seeing 2 of the best NZ has racing stride to victory in Marketplace ( breaking the track record in his 7 lengths win ) and Republican Party with one of your fav's Carter Dalgety driving a great race and taking the spoils. At great punting Appeal too drawn the Ace. so you miss out on all the South Island glory by not being open to investment with all those lovely South Island winners at the'' Ribbon of Light' A simple 1 - 1 - 1 multi from the pole draws for a Tenner. Arafura (Oaks) - Marketplace (Derby) - Republican Party (Messenger ) = $400 for 10 bucks mate. Let's face it Brodie old mate, you have lost your punting touch Brodster if scratching around Addington with the 'slow' horses looking for a quid π€£ππ makes the collects a bit slow too lol π

With 5 x Group 1's features up for grabs tonight , is the changing of the guard with NO Allstars win's from their 9 runners. Ever since SWAYZEE reduced the mighty Allstars barn to 2nd place in the last 2 New Zealand Cups (Akuta and Don't Stop Dreaming) the once great team is racing for 2nd place more than for the Win , for near the past 2 years now. NINE stable runners tonight on a Feature Race card and NO wins achieved. Congrats to ALL their fantastic main rivals Trainers for all the Big wins . Dalgety's (Messenger) Cullens (Oaks) Dunns ( Anzac trotting Cup) Barry and Scott (Trotters Derby) and Regan Todd for the extraordinary win by budding champ MARKETPLACE (in the GN Derby by 7 lengths.) those 5 x terrific training teams All continuing their fantastic run of success over past 2 years . for the record ALLstars were tonight (2nd in both 2 year old young gun races + 2 unplaced runners as well ) 5th in Oaks, balloted right out of trotting Derby, 2nd in pacing Derby, 7th in Messenger and old stable warrior OscarB just a battling 6th in the Anzac Trot. might need to get back to Rolleston ?
-
Well Craig Ferguson has retained the drives after some rather average drive results lately, with both the star runners in Two of the Biggest races on the Annual harness calender tomorrow night Anzac day . Marketplace in the GN Derby , and Don't Stop Dreaming in the Messenger . 2 big Group 1's His only 2 drives for the night?. And it's on 2 of the very best horses in the country ? that he manages to get beat quite well (like at their last starts and all through this thread too lol ) Can he step up to the Pressure ?? Think he (CraigF) gets a bit 'lost' driving Alexandra Park the wrong way round too at times. so is a shame really, that the trainers didn't use a Top local driver that knows the tricky track well ( like Matty White or something) Chris Alford has some catch drives while in town. Would of been a great option with his experience too. Best of luck to Chris in the Anzac Cup with the 'Queen' strutting her stuff for her kiwi owners.

Anzac Cup Trot at Auckland - Interesting facts!
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Yes some good thoughts there mate. John Dunn certainly has the chance to win this GN Derby now drawn well , and the horse going well too. I was picking the Handsome Colt 'Choc's' to win a Derby right after his big runs from bad draws in the Sires stakes and that late last year just behind Marketplace. Go the Choc's !!! π Marketplace has been beaten by him several times, and Rubira. What happened to him ? Rubira not in Derby ? and great to see some credit for Ben Hope for a change too for his last win with MM. a great observation by you Mr Galah. Forums have given him an absolute 'Bashing and Mashing ' over the years , even when he was a junior, but he still Won a Heap of Group 1's with Muscle Mountain , and had to take on one of the greatest trotters ever to do it too. (in 'Sundee's Son' ) so good luck to Ben and his family in the Anzac Trot , He will have to drive well again to win , as is a handy field off 10m . Whoever gets around the front markers first will win it IMO. get going early and get around em' will Win the day. there's A Vic and QLDer having a crack at it too . will be a great race. Go the Anzac's !! -
well that did appear to help yesterday. they had that little bit more room to swing into a row , and mostly the races got away on an even line. even the junior drivers were reasonably 'lined up' but 3 runners galloped still. So think better if they were just put behind mobile barrier. Whoops , πI'm combining some great harness families there. Yes of course young Sam Thornley , as you say, winning the trot . the race named in his honour too. and drove the winner a treat to boot. only seems like the other day that Sarah was a junior and in these type of races fighting out the finish. Hope she is mending ok this year from her accident.
-
Was just having a look how the junior drivers got on in race 7 , a mid class trot. actually that race wa named the 'Sam O'Reilly junior Trot' and he Won the race. !! Royal Del trotting beautifully out in front for Sam. had his name written all over it lol π. But looking at the start the juniors didn't seem to mind if their horse was walking, trotting or skipping, cantering as they had to be 'Moving Forwards' as the starter let the tape go. There was NO standing around , that's for sure. These stands are just so silly these days. So you sure right that it's more of a 'can you gain advantage with a quick thrust forward in any gait' for those first few metres. It just seems the starters are doing these rolling starts to avoid anyone swinging sideways at tape release ?? watching the junior trot that seemed to work I spose. Is this a good thing in the end then (to do it this way) ?

Tuesday- 2 low class meetings competing against each other?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
hahaha , that was a criminal act. he was a bit scared he would get assasinated at the time. but did 6 months jail in the end , and of course was banned for life from race-courses for the most famous Ring-In ever in Australia ( and probably the world ) money man Robbie Waterhouse only got 8 months 'detention' . Hayden died in 2017 aged 72. -
Tuesday- 2 low class meetings competing against each other?
Gammalite replied to Brodie's topic in Trotting Chat
Indians love the cricket Brodster. not real keen on horses at all. Are there any Maori horse trainers ? we had a good one once in Queensland here. Here's an old snap shot of Hayden Haitana practising his painting of horses getting ready for his Fine Cotton training efforts of days gone by πππ€£ rts -
maybe they saw that the GALAH requested more room for the horses behind the tapes ? to get away cleanly ? Well done Mr Galah π you helped them see the light. The Galah said they were packing them a little tight in a post recently , which was a top observation. (happens a lot in the NZ Cup even) 'Beach Ball' got away ok yesterday , as did all the field ( bar one runner from the pole) in the 'fast class' standing start at Addington Easter Saturday. I was terrified my Bet of the Day 'Harrison John' would miss away , but the starter did a great job getting them lined up, and on the journey. BUT please use the mobile MET club. it is waaay way better, and easier on the punter and driver lol. π
-
Probably safer that they run the Derby at night these days . Here's a Liquid Lightning Easter special from a while back . Richard Brosnan looks like he got out of it ok Harrison John who got 3rd in the last NZ Derby in December, looks an absolute Special today Addington in race 8. (Probably gallop away from the stand start now I said that lol π )
-
One of the great Easter Cups of years gone by. Reckon Ranga would of been all over this Trifecta ? not a hard one to pick .
-
Mrs Negus had a lot of comment once here when tackling hard for the lead , with a horse completely off the bit early, and she got 3 months suspension or something. A race Fitzgerald was in and leading I think. But anyway , the point is these drivers will NEVER be any better . They just don't get enough drives to improve .Not just tactically but 'Style' wise as well. Getting the best out of a horse in a close finish. ( and for a lot of these races even knowing what their horse is capable of early in the race too ) as demonstrated at Addington and Waikato tonight. I still say give them more drives to have fun. But just between races. Like we do all our qualifying trials here. Plenty of time between TAB races for them to get out there and have one or even 2 drives. (between Tote Races) A leading trainer here in Bris (with 4 very good driving children ) told me they have to go round 4 times (races) a meeting to get any better at Race Driving. or they just Won't Improve. He took a nephew Nathan Dawson from being useless to near being the QLD states best by doing this , and giving him a lot of drives to learn heaps, while a junior. You are seeing the same with Wilson House currently ( and some of the Thornleys too )
-
You should of seen the Waikato one tonight then π. Race 2 . just a debacle really. π Horses were tailed off from being driven incompetently. Even the winner driver 'nearly' miss -judged it sitting quiet as can be then realizing the post was coming up soon lol ππ. very lucky not to get egg on the face. Give these blokes 2 drives I say !! . BUT make them run In-between the TAB tote races. let em' have a run for $1000 bucks or something . but seriously DON't LEt People BET on that stuff. THEY have to be Non tote affairs Surely ??? Is very embarrassing to the great sport .
