Hayley is going alright. 3 winners in next 10 rides after Bella Mio. Ex Aye $8.10, Sense Of Timing $7.50, Ata Rangi $11.60. Meanwhile in his last 17 rides Jmac has only managed to get 1 win with Voyage Bubble $1.80.

Cant you just go down to TAB and put your bets on at the terminal?
-
2k is the minimum they have to let you on to win not the limit. If you are happy to take way under the likely SP you can get on for lots more.

They might not speak good English but they're not silly. Bookies offer 130% market and they think why would I give this guy 1 dollar to get 76 cents back.
-
Wouldn't know anything about what he was looking at.

Applies to just about any vocation not just being a jockey. Small country, small population, small economy. Cant get bigger due to strong anti immigration sentiment. Unemployment above 5%, average house price over 900 k, supermarket duopoly robs you blind and soon the betting monopoly will get you for even more than they already do. Young and talented you’re better off somewhere else.

I really don't understand this thread. Waller and McDonald have been on top in Australia for a long time. I don't think the Australians give a hoot that they started off in New Zealand. Bjorn recently became an Australian but he's a good boy as he always talks about how good Murray was in his post race interviews after winning a big one.

Most of these yard commentators have no idea. Maybe she knows what to look for. I accidentally found myself watching The Form and Pam Gerard said she was super confident. Not a place bettor but I should have had a go at $4.50 on the exchange. Went to back the winner earlier in the day and odds dropped on me from $1.50 to $1.45 so I left it. Shame to see the trainer of the winner lose the horse so hopefully he got well compensated.

Sorry if I offended you. Not meant to be nasty. I think they're both superstars. But if you're the best to have worked for Aidan O'Brien you might be destined for some find of extra special stardom.

If that's true he'll likely go a lot further than Jamie or Mark ever have or will.

Probably completed the research himself. Just asked his brother and Roger James what they thought was best.

Otaki 22 February 2025 - Abandoned after race 1.
Shab replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
New guy going to be earning a bit of his million a year sorting this out. Maybe Entain can put up some new markets with odds for us to bet on in the meantime - no abandonment, abandonment after race 1, race 2, race 3...... -
NOW OFFICIAL that Pivotal Ten has a slot for the NZB Kiwi

Makes for a better story if Sam rides and wins. Think Frankel/Tom Queally, Takeover Target/Jay Ford. -
Don't bet much with TAB but had a bet this week. Backed runner at 2.9. Odds went down to 2. Looked at what I could cash out for and it was around 80% of what i had put on. Are these guys for real? This has to be theft. Must be illegal. No wonder they need a law change to stop you going elsewhere. Maybe they don't do this to everyone. Not ringing them to find out. Very unfriendly when you ring. Good fun asking for a bonus bet to right any wrongs but you're flagged as no bonus bets allowed and they can't get you off the phone quick enough.

What form could any support from the other codes take? Threats of strike action, petitions, jockeys, drivers and trainers camping out in front of the Beehive? i want to see greyhound racing continue. Beautiful animals. Love watching them run. I can put in a submission but that's about as much use as closing my eyes and wishing for it after seeing a shooting star in the night sky.

Should've stayed in behind Captain Hammerhead and would've won. Lot of loot lost.

Plenty of disgraceful behaviour in gallops and harness. What do all these well paid fellas at the RIB do all day 'The Racing Integrity Board promotes and ensures compliance with high standards of integrity, animal welfare and professionalism by people in the racing industry.' Yeah right, Why don't you get up these guys Winnie? Throw your legislation in the bin, get rid of these do nothings, replace them with some competent types and lets keep the dogs racing.

The five biggest priorities for new NZTR CEO Matt Ballesty
Shab replied to Murray Fish's topic in Galloping Chat
Don't know if any of these outfits are interested in increasing turnover. Must be all about margin. Just looked at Lightning odds and Entain have Switzerland 2.60. Australian TAB an even more ridiculous 2.25. -

What kind of flow on? All going well but how would their individual success benefit racing back in NZ? -
I’ve got a TAB account. Stopped using it regularly after I received an email going on about how I was taking advantage of the promotions that weren’t actually there for punters to profit from. If I carried on I would be ineligible for anymore promotions. No big deal. It was quite time consuming as I was betting then laying the favourite on Betfair so you had to be glued to the computer before every race trying to minimise the cost of matching the bet. Then I was backing horses with the bonus bets at around $10 and again laying them on Betfair. It was time consuming and mistakes could be costly. I would however recommend all punters give it a go. You learn a lot from watching what happens on Betfair. Away from the promotions I found you can’t win just betting on overs. They’re onto you fairly quickly. I would put a bet through and it would come back saying you can’t have that amount but you can have this lower amount. No point carrying on. You can get other people to open accounts for you to use but it gets messy. You need to get another phone to hide your identity and then there’s getting the money out. Most people even family members don’t want to get involved. They think gambling is evil and you’re doing something bad and they don’t want to be a part of it. Too much work for a few thousand dollars before they shut you down. I had a Queensland TAB/Ubet account. If I withdrew any funds they would send me a cheque. I would drive around a number of banks but more often than not they would refuse to let me deposit the cheques into my account. You were treated like a cross between a gambling addict and an international money launderer. Eventually I worked out that you could get the cheques through easily by depositing them into your account at an ATM. Things changed when Ubet closed down and the overs I was getting were gone just like that. Nowadays I just use Betfair and occasionally use the NZ TAB account to score a bit of petrol money. I like laying runners when they get near to Winx odds as its unlikely they’re going to be a Winx. Cleaned up on Belle Detelle at Mornington today. I’m sure the QR code thing may have happened but things have changed since then. Everybody got the same promotional offers back then but now they target those who they can get more from with all kinds of generous offers. I have mates who just punt and lose for fun and they get promotional offers I’m never going to get. I had a look for the deposit match and I’ve got 10%. Wont bother as I don’t want to be gubbed. Apparently they’re really quick at putting the squeeze on you these days so I’ll just stay under the radar and pick up a few hundred here and there. Winning on the punt isn’t hard its just time consuming. You’re going to struggle with the TAB’s 120% plus closing markets unless you can be extremely patient, are extremely brilliant or have access to really good information. You can make more money doing other things with the same amount of effort. It’s just not as much fun.
-
So Entain no longer restrict winning punters but shower them with 50% deposit match and bonus back on the first four races offers instead. Pull the other one its got bells.
-
You have to be going terrible to be getting these offers. Start writing down all your bets. Compare the price you got to SP. You have to beat SP by a margin if you want to be profitable. Keep a journal. Write down things you noticed during your day of punting that might be useful in the future. Don't rely on your memory unless you are very special. If you did something really clever write it down. If you did something really stupid write it down and underline it. Review your journal regularly. Try and find an edge. Don't make studying form your sole focus. Focus on getting the best possible price you can and be patient.

Sitting here reading your post and I hear Craig Sant talking about So Naive running in Race 2 at Darwin dogs. Couldn't help myself. Bit short but a win is a win.

But the no hassle tax rate at the TAB is too high plus Betfair give rewards to winners as well as losers. It's hard to avoid hassles these days. No outfit wants you ringing them and try to make it difficult for you to find their number. if you do manage to get them on the phone you often end up talking to someone in a land far far away. It can be hard to understand what their saying and or they can't understand what you're saying. Often they don't know the answer to your question. This forum is great. You ask the question and someone gives you an answer in minutes.
