  1. Eion Latimer another who trained there now training at Oamaru
  2. Graeme Mclay recently qualified one recently.Other Forbury trainers to have finished, Eian Lamb,Kerry Dance,Kevin Court, Ray Hanson ,Bob Straight, Darryl Trainor to name a few
  3. Motu Speedy Star was 14 when he won his last race at Forbury
  4. Forbury Park is where I spent many racedays and nights .I was there the night the lights were first turned on and remember well Sun Chief falling. The 1965 Interdominions I fell in love with Gramel the little Aussie trotter. Later in life I trained my first winner at Forbury ,and since gone on to train quite a few more there . What saddens me most where now ,do we take the so called Forbury horses .In finishing I must comment on the race names for the last meeting .Nowhere on the whole programme is there a race mentioning it .Surely the last race could have been called the Grand Finale ,The Last Hurrah ,or something similar . Not the The Tuapeka Harness Racing Cup!!! Maybe that's the mentality of the committee down there ,and why it is the Final.
  5. Yeah , I think there were 7 ,and not sure how many Touch Machines ,but one sat for over 20mins saying,"out of order, paper runout".Don't really need that on busy day!! Was a real good days racing tho.
  6. Today at Forbury there were two water trucks going round after each race. Was stinkin hot day, good crowd,,and nothing much wrong with track when maidens running 2.41 and fast times all day.Only downside trying to get bets on with lengthy queues at all the terminals . I hope the Suits were there having a look .Forbury certainly has it's place
  7. Of the 42 races in Southland in June , Otago trained horses won 15 of them ,plus numerous placings , and yet we were told lack of horse numbers in area reason for no Forbury . Must be a few .Real glad to have them back will save me a lot of Diesel.
  8. Haha Now just seen Woman in Charge Free to good home
  9. Oamaru for 6 meetings on all weather(Where has Kurow gone, cause they raced there?) and 3 on grass ,but got no grasstrackers , so next then it looks like Addington ,three hours away ,and hope like hell that there going to cater for the lower grade horses , as Forbury did for us ,and not select fields highest to lowest like they do now (Andrew Morris if you read these pages)
  10. Looks like the end of me.The amount of travelling now thrust upon me by out of touch plonkers is unreal .Looks like there will be a few horses ,floats, sulkys and a whole lot of gear for sale.
  11. Yes I feel there are positive vibes amongst the board and club members ,but owners and trainers just hope. It is so central for us lower region trainers , and for the Forbury type horses to race there .Some say move the lights elsewhere but the cost would be prohibitive .Also most other tracks have a galloping track on the outside which makes them not really suitable for lights. I just hope they do survive ,and yes they do own the land .
  12. I race a lot of horses at Forbury and look forward to their Winter series each year. The track is one of the best, the stabling, stalls , barn , and boxes are lot better than at a lot of tracks and they have the lights .A lot of Forbury's income comes from across the Ditch which won't happen as much with daytime races. Sure one stand is indeed of demolition but one stand with hotel under it is more than sufficient. As for using the land to build on you'd need to put it on a pontoon to keep the tide at bay.It doesn't just have to be Forbury that races there .Other club such as Tuapeka can have there meeting there. Who wants to go to Invercargill in middle of winter. Not Me !!!
