  1. I wouldn't know, but if that's your thing Chief I'm not one to judge. Whatever you do behind closed doors is up to you
  2. I don'y remember giving you carte blanc authority to disclose my name to all and sundry Chief Makes a mockery of your criticism of Channel X and your trumpeting of your site's privacy I don't care if some people worked out who I was but to be consistent I await your advice of who Brodie is?
  3. Why don't you give it a rest you dickhead Every post is either about you being Restricted, about the USA Election being rigged, the vaccine being poison, the Government being no good, or me telling you that you are an absolute plonker I don't think there's a single thread that you've contributed to wherein 1 of those 5 common themes hasn't been interwoven into your replies
  4. Again, thanks GOP, appreciated
  5. Thanks HTP, appreciated!
  6. You have previously promised to never post again yet here you are Your previous promise lasted 2 days It took me 3 months to renege on my decision 🙄 At least you are doing your bit to incentivise people to get the JAB. If I hadn’t already had it you’d promise to not post again would rank right up there with a chance to win a fridge
  7. I think I see 1 for today I looked after Pay Me Visa for Andrew Stuart for a month and he bolted in, in the Otaki Cup on a big grass track Today he’s in a Junior Drivers race at $10 in B a field nowhere near as good as the Otaki Cup field However, I guess that was 6 years ago😂
  8. Don't remember Aiming High but do remember Glen Del Sure he was also from the West Coast?
  9. Hey Karrots Another thread reminded me of something that is probably up there with my favourite memories In 1988 my Dad and I had a horse called Robins Fella, a Smooth Fella gelding out of a mare that Dad raced called Safe Hanover (who had a win at Victoria Park) The day that Safe Hanover won at Victoria Park she went around twice I'm sure, running 100m last in the 1st or 2nd race. She went so poor that the Stipes asked Dad to scratch her from the last. Dad refused, saying it was a 5 hour drive from Blenheim and that was too far to come to scratch. She won the last paying about $70 Prior to the Boxing Day races Westport always have the Kawatiri Trials Day. Back in 1988 the Trials Day was a big occasion. We started Robins Fella at the Trials and he won, beating a horse coincidentally called Kawatiri who was trained by Billy Blythe. We equalled the track record at the Trials and Robins Few\lla had plenty left in the tank Kawatiri was a pretty smart horse. After Boxing Day he went on to win 8 or 9 in a row with either Jimmy Curtin or Kevin Townley driving him. Kevin from memory had taken over his training at some time Our horse drew 3 and I thought we were on a winner. We were but as it turned out we probably got lucky as Robins Fella only won 3 from over 50 starts I wanted to have a punt but times were tough so I wanted to see what we were paying first and how Robins Fella felt in the warmup I gave a real good guy (John Gould) the $300 and told him to meet me at the fence at the 2600m start, which is right in front of the Tearooms at Westport The horse felt great in the warmup so as I put the hopple shorteners on at the start I told John to whip the $300 on for a win. I was paying over $10 and Kawatiri was hot at $1.90 (no fixed odds in those days) We started to turn around and I was keeping an eye on John, I then panicked as John who was in a wheelchair due to a tragic accident as a young guy, hadn't made it to the front of the queue. I said "crap" and Andrew Neal who lived in Blenheim also at that time and was drawn alongside or close to me helped out calling out "Sir, Sir, I've lost a pin". Andrew brought us a couple of minutes grace and John got on. Without Andrew I would have been stuffed as I didn't think as quick as Andrew did We did win by half a length from Kawatiri, with 10 lengths back to 3rd In retrospect I was lucky as I think in my driving career (excluding Amateur wins) I struggled to win as many races as Kawatiri ended up winning himself
  10. Thanks for the kind wishes Reefton and the comment about helping the Coast Clubs. Have had a lot of fairweather friends so any appreciation is very gratefully received. I'm keeping ok, like most solo parents I harbour thoughts of burying the child of the fairer sex in the garden but with my track record they would throw the book at me Enjoying reading your missives mainly on the TB site about the state of tracks but I don't have the knowledge to contribute Am working where I have regular contact with MP and he's always good to deal with The Coast trip was a great 2 weeks. Lots of stories including being fitted uo by JJO'Donnell a few times A favourite memory was a leading Jockey coming into my Office at Hokitika and saying Mr O'B, can I ask you a question? To which I said of course, but call me Mike. He replied ok, then said Mr O'B, this track has the shortest straight on the Coast doesn't it? I said no, it has the longest straight I think. Jockey replied it doesn't look that long. I said you race right handed here, so you're looking at the wrong end of the straight. Jockey said, oh that'll explain it then You are right about many good horsers starting off at the Coast. I am pretty sure Armalight won at Westport before heading North for 3yo Classics and then going on to win a Cup For pure entertainment nothing could touch Steven John with John Rogers driving winning at Greymouth to complete the West Coast Bonus. Wasn't a horse that you could drive pretty around Victoria park, but he kept on coming
  11. Karrots I picked 14 numbers My odds of getting 4 drawn out of 7 were about 95% at a rough guess I got 1 And I managed to stop the Storm, and nearly the All Blacks I still hold the mantle of the worst tipster on BOAY
  12. Leave out 1,2,3. 12.13.14. 19,20,21. 29,30,31. 39,40 😂
  13. I told you I could stop a train! Up by 10 at halftime. Thought was impossible to lose. No changes in our shooting circle to blame. Got to hand it to the England team, they sure have a never say die attitude My saving grace was knowing how many injuries the Makos had, and seeing Waikato at $4 However I'll stop one of the League, Rugby or Australian Rules favourites, you wait and see There's absolutely no chance I'll ever become Restricted
  14. $1000 NZ Netball/Rabbits/Storm/Aussie Rugby/NZ Rugby = $5121.53 Sorry Karrots, they aren't horses but at least I joined in!
  15. You're lying Brodie, you read my posts I know it
  16. ffs can't you get a grip Chief I have already posted that we were talking about different eras which should have been obvious to you from my post about the TB Clubs getting permission to restart trotting races on their TB racedays Get over it Chief, over the last 6 months you seem to be compelled to leap in and make a statement that you expect everyone to just accept because you are so much more clever than anyone else, what's up with you? You're making JJ Flash look good My memory was crap, it paid $13 and not $9
  17. Sweet Billy at $9, from memory, driven by my 60yo (about) Dad at Hokitika was pretty good Especially since he was the only horse in the field that had raced right handed before Figure that one out Chief?
  18. Yes, by Bachelor Hanover
  19. That would be right if I was 12yo in 1971 🙄
  20. Who is Noodlum?
  21. We are talking different eras You are talking about the era BEFORE the NZRC banned Racing Clubs running trotting races I am talking about the era when the NZRC ban was overturned So effectively we are both right (and I’m not wrong wrong wrong) and so I apologise, sort of I couldn’t have been the Secretary in 1971 as I was only 12yo then
  22. FFS Bill Middleton was years before the trot races were run Make up your mind when your Dad was on the Committee will you (although there were a lot of older guys so he could have traversed both eras) I'm telling you the facts, the Committee decided that they would run trots on their raceday If your "Dad and his mates" were on the Committee at the time (which was when I was the Secretary) then they were part of the decision making process If they weren't then you are talking crap The horse "Sweet Billy" won 1 of the 2 trotting races at Hokitika, my wife's horse
  23. Your father might have been on the Committee for a period That's not what you said You said the Members were influential in the decision to run trots They were not It was the Committee's decision and the Members had no idea it was even being considered No doubt you will now say that you meant the Committee Members I am not being autocratic at all I was the Club Secretary and/or Raceday Secretary of every West Coast Club that decided to run trots on their T/B day the first time Therefore I must have been the Secretary when your father was on the Committee
  24. As a background to the above, Thoroughbred Clubs were not permitted to run Trotting Races on their raceday In order to do so, the Marlborough Racing Club had to apply at the AGM of the NZRC (as it was known then) for permission The President of the Marlborough Racing Club at that time was Mr Kelly Thompson At the AGM the case was put by the Marlborough Racing Club that they be allowed to run trotting events in order to ensure that 8 or more races were run There was a lengthy debate and one of the most vocal opponents was Mr Wigley, the President of the North Canterbury Racing Club (and I guess, Gus Wigley's father) A vote was held and the President, from memory Jim Bull but that could be wrong, declared that the motion had been lost as it had not reached 66% support At this point Mr Wigley, who had spoken against the proposal quite eloquently, and had voted against it raised a point of order and advised the Chairman that the particular type of motion did not require 66% support; it only required 50% support The Chairman then declared the motion passed The Marlborough Racing Club then added trots and Westland and Greymouth followed
