J Fawcett (SCOLERA) - Admitted a charge of careless riding in that she permitted her mount to shift outwards when not sufficiently clear of LIECHTENSTEIN which was contacted and forced wider, inconveniencing HIGH EMOTION near the 450 metres. After considering submissions the Adjudicative Committee imposed a suspension of J Fawcett’s licence to ride in races from the conclusion of racing on Sunday 15 February up to and including racing on Friday 27 February, 6 national riding days. W Pinn (LIECHTENSTEIN) - Defended a charge of careless riding in that he directed his mount inwards entering the final straight making contact with SCOLERA on a number of occasions until near the 250 metres. After considering submissions the Adjudicative Committee found the charge proven and imposed a suspension of W Pinn’s licence to ride in races from the conclusion of racing on Saturday 7 February up to and including racing on Friday 20 February, 7 national riding days.

Lord no! Copied from elsewhere.

Some did Yes, there are staying stallions standing but most commercial stallions these days have too much speed influence to get the 2 miles. Almanzor throws a good staying sort at times. And they have a bit of class. So I might go Trav and Manzor Blue. I agree with you on Manzor Blue. In addition to the sire, Almanzor she has Sir Tristram twice on the Dam side as well as Montjue

Hard to tell without the head on but I think Pinn was just holding his line, and not allowing himself to be poshed out

But we also have revenue from domestic wagering on overseas racing and sports. Just that domestic racing can no longer stand on its own feet from wagering revenue. The key point that the data reinforces though, is that spending more on high stakes races doesn't help the revenue returns.

As it stands, across January, we have 13,548,635 56,847,600 4.19

It's got stuff all to do with cost accounting or running a 2yo at Reefton. I think most know that if you spend more than you earn, you end up having to borrow and/or sell assets to stay afloat. But that's what NZTR have persisted in doing the last 20 years. It'll never work in the long term. Never could.
-
I don't think Reefton suggested that it did. No club does. You've gone off at a tangent to the topic. The point is that the wagering revenue generated by the likes of Reefton goes a lot further towards covering the cost to racing of providing their stakes than the likes of ATR does.
-
What the hell do you mean yield? That's exactly what's not there in sufficient quantum. There's stuff all other revenue. 90% comes from wagering revenue..
-
No. I wan't suggesting anything. If I were to in light of those figures, it might be that NZTR should pay stakes in more direct proportion to turnover, not keep throwing more and more money at the least sustainable meetings but I've been saying that for the last 20 years.

Don't worry. Exactly the same applies to NZTR, so we'll all be at the same soup kitchen. -

Are Kiwi buyers getting priced out of Karaka 2026?
curious replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Stellar Summer Sale Closes out Karaka 2026 29 January 2026 Stew McGregor leads his yearling (Lot 958) around the Karaka Sales ring. The final session of NZB’s 100th National Yearling Sale took place at Karaka on Thursday, with a strong inaugural Karaka Summer Sale. 112 yearlings sold for a total aggregate of more than $3.4 million at an average of $30,612. Six lots sold for $100,000 or more which added to a solid clearance rate of 81%. NZB Managing Director Andrew Seabrook was elated for all those involved in the historic week. "To sum it up, this week we've turned over $9.6 million more than last year, with 79 less horses catalogued." "We're just over the moon, seeing these results from the new format. "The Karaka Summer Sale today was one of the strongest sessions, almost matching Book 2 results from last year. "It's just been a phenomenal week all around, celebrating such a big milestone in New Zealand thoroughbred history, and returning almost $96 million back to breeders. "Our vendors have done an incredible job presenting their yearlings, our buyers supporting the Sale so well and our whole NZB team who have all contributed to its success. "We're looking forward to the demand for our yearlings continuing to our Online Yearling Sale, where of course the outstanding filly Well Written was purchased from." The top lot of the day came when first time vendor Stew McGregor offered his sole yearling. The colt by emerging sire Armory out of Satono Aladdin mare Hanako (Lot 958), was knocked down to John Foote Bloodstock for $130,000. “We’re so, so thrilled,” commented an emotional McGregor. “To have that amount of people and trainers come through and inspect him, it’s really neat. We hope he’s got an exciting future for us to follow.” The well-known Waikato Hunt member praised his surrounding stud farms for all their help. “Dean Hawkins, Windsor Park Stud and others around me have been instrumental in helping me along the way,” added McGregor. “It’s a team sport, alright.” Westbury Stud were leading vendors & their resident stallion Redwood was leading sire. Pictured: Lot 958 The leading vendor by aggregate and average for the Karaka Summer Sale was Westbury Stud who sold seven lots for $432,000 at an average of $61,714. The leading buyer at the end of selling of the final session was Victorian trainer Patrick Payne, having purchased three lots for $236,000. This included Lot 938, a colt for $100,000 out of the leading sire of the session in Redwood. All yearlings purchased are eligible for the Karaka Millions Series featuring the $1m TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m), followed by the $1.5m TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m) as well as the NZB Mega Maiden Bonus Series with $1m in bonuses up for grabs across 40 maiden races each season. The Karaka Summer Sale is further boosted by a $200,000 Karaka Millions bonus. For the first Karaka Summer Sale graduate home in both the 2027 $1m TAB Karaka Millions 2YO and 2028 $1.5m TAB Karaka Millions 3YO, $100,000 will be split evenly between the vendor and purchaser for each race. Entries close Monday 2 March 2026. Are Kiwi buyers getting priced out of Karaka 2026?
curious replied to Chief Stipe's topic in Galloping Chat
Looks strong today too. High clearance rate. -
Where did you get the 663.1 million figure?
-
Probably good but not of much benefit to NZ racing if it wasn't bet through our TAB. Don't know revenue but you'd expect any increase would be less than the turnover increase based on the trend from tote to FOB. With customers from at least 25 participating countries and regions around the world wagering into a single pool, World Pool hosted betting on all six races at Saturday’s meeting, ensuring a 71% uplift in turnover on the meeting. The TAB Karaka Millions 2YO was the stand-out performer, with an 11% increase on last year’s edition.

The figures in the graphic represent a YOY increase of 4.7% by NZ punters on domestic racing. So same.
-
Both are excerpts directly from this month's Entain report that I thought were interesting. I'm not clear what your point is. I'm certainly not fawning over KM day. The opposite. A 5% turnover increase year on year from NZ punters is surely NOT a good result with Geoblocking now well in place.
-
Sorry, doesn't that refer directly to KM day? The other numbers are overall racing turnover for Nov/Dec. They are two separate things. I'm not sure what you mean or want.
-
Seriously needs to happen to make it world class and attractive to punters.
