  2. They are full of shit.
  3. While we appreciate that stakes increases are hugely significant to the rejuvenation of this industry, NZTR Board and Management have also outlined key strategic priorities to be addressed over the next 12 to 36 months. These priorities identified by NZTR will continue to relentlessly improve the presentation and preparation of all facets of our industry which is paramount to improving wagering growth and will be maintained in key areas such as: Industry training and enhancing the welfare of our people and horses Enhancing track/surface performance for better racing outcomes Ensuring accountability for performance among clubs Achieving sustainable revenue growth Enhancing public relations to improve the image and reputation of the industry
  4. NZTR ANNOUNCES $20.3 MILLION DOLLAR STAKES INCREASE ??????? That was a year ago and not including the novelty race funding.
  5. Why can they not meet track maintenance costs. They are awash with money since Entain came along.
  6. Never seen one. Where do you get them?
  7. I don't think you need to write them off. They need to commit the resources to maintain them properly. That's the human resource expertise and the necessary equipment.
  8. There has been none mentioned has there?
  9. It seems the NZTR/club strategy is to not listen in the first place, then to shut them up by any means possible that they deem necessary.
  10. The OBS company seems to disagree. ""April has become the go-to spot for 2-year-olds in training, and the reason for that is our graduates have done well all over the world," said OBS director of sales Tod Wojciechowski. "This sale has become the world's preeminent 2-year-old sale; it has been fun to see the evolution over the years."
  11. OK. I found this on the NZB site supporting that claim: In a game where proven results are the ultimate guide to future success, NZB’s Ready to Run Sale reigns supreme. With its world-beating record from graduates on the racetrack, it is simply the best sale of its kind globally. Boasting 29 Group One wins and 116 stakes wins in the last five seasons, and an honour roll featuring the likes of Antino (NZ) (Redwood), Ceolwulf (NZ) (Tavistock), Feroce (NZ) (Super Seth), Golden Sixty (Medaglia D’or), Lucky Sweynesse (NZ) (Sweynesse), Warmonger (NZ) (War Decree), Mr Brightside (NZ) (Bullbars) and Pulchritudinous (NZ) (Wrote), no other horses-in-training sale comes close. Let the Ready to Run Sale’s proven track record inform your future, see you at Karaka in November.
  12. 2YO’s Scheduled to Breeze Up Next Week Breeze Ups for the world’s best sale of two-year-olds are set to take place next week on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 October at Te Rapa Racecourse.
  13. So, does this mean I can have $50 on I Wish I Win @ $6.50 and get my money back regardless of where he finishes? That seems generous though I won't be scrambling to watch the race live. Place a Fixed Odds Win bet on I Wish I Win in The Everest, Race 7 at Randwick, and if he doesn't win get up to $50 back as Bonus Cash.
  14. And punters, owners, jockeys, other trainers and the public image of the industry were all screwed. That's aside from the abhorrent cruelty involved. His penalty for these charges seems mild and has been substantially mitigated from the 10 years sought by stewards. Is he at risk here of the penalty being increased by the court? The very fact that he is challenging it makes it appear to me that he hasn't learned much.
  15. I don't see that any double jeopardy exists. The current penalty relates to different charges. You can't commit two separate murders and claim double jeopardy for the second because you've served your time for the first.
  16. Except the big guns here may prove to be the Supreme Court. Time will tell, but I don't see that he has much of a case myself.
  17. I think that's a mistake he made. Those tracks will probably need a 12-18 month stand down again every 7-10 years. We need alternative tracks to allow for that.
  18. Fair enough but this is not under NZ racing's control. The Asian Racing Federation lays down the rules and it's hard to see those changing in that direction.
  19. That was his recommendation. To use some of the assets of the closed tracks to fund the upgrades.
  20. Correct. He did acknowledge however that there is a place and a rationale for these "aspirational" races. I agree. What was disappointing to me about the interview was when Messara said that some of the recommendations have not been implemented and mentioned the stakes distribution issue, Guerin didn't follow up with the standard interviewing question "what else?" hasn't been done. Instead he moved on to another topic. The recommendation to spend $90 million on infrastructure of the remaining tracks over the 6 years while other tracks were closed is certainly missing. Witness Hastings where they now are finally going to spend the money and do the job properly.
  21. It's rather odd in a way that it is the breeders that have actually pushed what has led to that. As above, I think Messara grasps that but hasn't got his message across six years on.
  22. It is a restricted sales race. Can never achieve Group status. Nor the KM for that matter. Won't ever happen.
  23. Yes. Though outside capital could be applied anywhere and as Messara says, this is probably not the best place.
  24. Messara has a bit to say about that.
  25. I note you say soil, not sand and if memory serves they also skim and relay worn and damaged areas annually with ready-lawn type turf.
