  1. Only evidenced treatment value is probably pain management, not healing, and it may be counter effective to that.
  2. 3 day detection time cf 7 for bute? No more effective. Overall, PBZ was more effective than MXM at reducing pain in the HBS model, while MXM was more effective at reducing pain in the SYN model at the oral doses used. Banse H, Cribb AE. Comparative efficacy of oral meloxicam and phenylbutazone in 2 experimental pain models in the horse. Can Vet J. 2017 Feb;58(2):157-167. PMID: 28216685; PMCID: PMC5234315.
  3. How do you know that? It wasn't publicly reported until she was retired but she must have been sore somewhere for her to be on bute surely. It's not generally used as a prophylactic.
  4. . NZEVA-Recommended-Prohiited-Substance-Withholding-Times-and-Guide.pdf
  5. We don't know the levels yet but if they are marginal then maybe.
  6. It was also a pre-race test which if they were pushing the withdrawal time boundaries might have caught them out.
  7. Gross revenue is roughly 15% of turnover. Net about half that. Varies a bit year to year and quite a bit meeting to meeting. They should publish those figures. Harness do. TAB4ever may have them?
  8. The net wagering revenue from the Karaka meeying would have been about 750k. That leaves 3.8m that had to be made up for the stakes from sponsorship, sweepstake contributions and funding from NZTR which in itself comes substantially from sports betting, overseas racing and pokies. We are indire straits if that spreads through the rest of NZ racing's contribution as is tending to happen.
  9. This was not an added race. It was in the original programme.
  10. Not sure why that's a surprise with no 2yo races in the SI. Only one Pearl nominated horse so that's obviously not a big attraction.
  11. It might be usual but it doesn't strike me as "normal".
  12. Einstein's definition of insanity springs to mind.
  13. They had 5 noms for both races just before noms closed. Seems inequitable to run the 2yo and not even leave noms open for the open 1800. It was a 50k race that some may have aimed for at considerable expense. I wonder if they got on the phone to see if they could get a few more or would that be in the too hard basket?
  14. W/e 28 Jan. Much better by Trentham what was run but add the Ellerslie meeting to the unaffordable list.
  15. Might be a mistake? It was advertised for 25k in the programme booklet but 18.5 in the RPG. Definitely a bit odd.
  16. Speaking of feature meetings this weekend, I see there were insufficient noms to run the open 1800 at Riccarton. They didn't even bother to leave the noms open.
  17. It also looks like it has a crest in the centre falling away to the outside rail, not that horses are likely to be racing that far out there
  18. Oh bugger. I'm left handed. It's by the turn OUT of the straight.
  19. It's only 100m x 50m so you might have missed it.
  20. And rightly so it proved. Any sign of the root layer chief?
  21. They are not for dog meetings. Separate system for those according the article above.
  22. Another industry employment case comes to light. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/tribunal-fines-top-horse-trainer-stephen-mckee-10k-for-racist-abuse-of-indian-stablehand/FTB46L25RBHKZPNJDBSEGCRHKQ/
  23. Yes and the farmers of 30 and 40 years ago that had a part in managing racecourses were equally science based and innovative for their time but things have moved on and I don't think anyone is suggesting that 40 year old science should be applied to today's racecourses.
