Well both National and Labour leaders said yes to this question. Is it close to the end?

This guy might have something to say about that.

One tick could buy the industry 3 more years for GRNZ to finally get their shit together.

Doesn't matter what GRNZ do or don't do.  Greyhounds are an easy target then the so called animal activists will go for harness then thoroughbreds.  The other factor with Greyhounds is that many more people have owned a pet dog than a pet horse.

I agree they are an easy target but Greyhound racing in NZ has had nearly a decade to clean it self up to a higher standard like whats happened in Australia where they were hit harder and much earlier. The difference is you can see many of the differences over there and the board here failed to act until 2 years ago.

I have spoken to 2 ex members of the board and both have said the board and grnz were a mess and what little power they had meant nothing as the board was generally a headless chicken.

Useless has chimed in.

You're right Chief, many people have or had a pet dog. Many have had a pet rabbit as well.

Maybe if justice was served on the less than a handful of people implicated by these images by the RIU/JCA back then, instead of ignoring it & letting it all funnel to the Crown system only to be dropped at the last minute, the focus on greyhounds would have been on their racing & not the extremes some people went to in violation of both the rules of the code & laws of the country.

This fiasco on TV3 in its many episodes sealed the tone of the entire industry by people who may have always heard & wondered about whether it was happening here.

While GRNZ was already under some pressure from the activists at the time, this was the turning point for the general public's view on the sport. If they tackled it head on, took names & served justice where it was due, they could have used it as a positive for the industry. Look what we've done to clean up the few rouge participants. This was quite similar to what happened in Australia. They went hard on the perpetrators & look how well they're going now.

I was told by an inside source during that time that an envelope with these & a few more pictures turned up at GRNZ headquarters. Instead of an outrage within headquarters, their main focus was on where the images came from & who took them.

Doesn't help you constantly bringing up the past and dubious statistics.

Well the turn of events is sure interesting. Labour out, Minister of Racing who is clearly sympathetic to all codes out, Winston the King maker likely not to hold any power who is also sympathetic to racing.

National who said they would ban greyhound racing...........

So where does that leave us???

Get off your asses and show how much welfare matters, and outline improvements that have been made and what is still in the pipeline for further action.

Or not...

There's no social license (I hate using that term) for dog racing regardless of what is done for animal welfare.

The politicians know where the polls sit on the matter and what's more there must be close to zero political contributions from greyhound stakeholders.

Kieran McAnulty said before a decision was going to be made about greyhound racing was made, it would wait until after the election, which has now passed.

Since Labour has been voted out, will he undertake the actions necessary to enact his decision one way or the other, or do nothing at all and let National take over the course of ultimate action?

It's not like Labour not to act if there may be what they believe are brownie points involved in it.
