Gammalite
Mark Purdon now co-training with son Nathan had a very good 2 days in Cup week in the 6 BIG group 1's AKUTA his best horse supposed to be the star of the Show , but came up with 2 Second Placings. Seems NOT quite at his peak for some reason after BIG Ashburton and Kaikoura Wins in the lead up to Cup week. AKUTA seemingly had his chance in the Cup with trailing SWAYZEE around the final bend and angled out turning in, but lost a length on him if anything. and the NZ FFA group 1 yesterday , he was 'dipsy doodling ' and 'hot-footing' a lap out near galloping , while in the lead . mind not on the job? wonder if he was doing some of those KRUG Stallion type of things ? and starting to think too much. Was 2 x Great Group 1 placings for AKUTA anyhow and Full Credit to his Victors . 'Swayzee' and 'Self Assured' tried hard and got the choc's will check out other allstars soon...... I saw a close up replay of that incident in the FFA where Akuta bobbled for a few strides. I think Mark caused the issue when he reacted to the horse in the trial trying to chew his collar off. When it happened Mark moved suddenly and I think he dropped tension on one rein for a tick.

Chief Stipe
Although the Steward report says he got a hopple shortener cord caught in a hopple. I reckon it was related though to Mark's reaction.

Gammalite
$315,000 Dominion Handicap Trot . Well this is a 10/10 for the great team . ALLStars crushing the opponents with old Oscar. remember last year he started in a support race (and won) because he wasn't good enough to defeat Sundee's Son . so great work to improve him to these levels lately . Although only had to trot about 4.10 for the 2 miles and Sundee's Son was Somehow incredibly breaking the 4.00 minute barrier !!!! would beat Oscar by 100m ?? Putting the Aussie on the Rank outsider from the outside gate 😎. No way was Cam beating him from there ? but was a good 5th for the ALLStars anyway . Gammalite
So there we have it Oscar B in the trot + Millwood Nike + Self Assured + Chase a dream win 4 of the Group 1's with Akuta + Akuta + We Walk By Faith + Madrid 4 lots of second placings in Group 1's. Don't Stop Dreaming won the Group 3 Junior FFA as well (so is NZ Derby Favourite now) so picked up about $300,000 on each of the 2 days from that lot above- combined. TOTAL approx $600,000 earned from 6 fantastic Group 1's. *****funnily enough the winner of the 'Thousand Guinea's' in about an hour 's time at Caulfield and is full of fillies no one has ever heard of, and that have only won one or 2 races and some are maidens even lol.... . $900,000 awaits the winner for one gallop of about 1 minute 36 seconds or so in the mile race. Hardly seems fair ? when you think of the hours and miles and wins and work that went into the $600,000 that was earned by Allstars this week from all those AMazing Performances. so many awesome races
the galah
Its interesting to look at last years cup day results and see how the winners progressed thereafter. You would think winning on cup day would mean they would go on and win at least a few more. But looking at last years winners, that isn't necessarily so. You have 5, Don't stop dreaming,Majestic Man,Republican Party and Celtic Spirit and mister smartee who have all continued to race well. then you had 2, copy that and true dantasy seemingly now retired.. Then you have 3 who have had 1 win in the last year, snow robyn, heisenberg and heres herbie. Then you have 3 who haven't won in the last year. Franco josiah, royal pride and boss kenny. So from that the pattern seems to be,the good 2 & 3 year old winners seem to progress well thereafter. But if your 4 year old or older and especially if you win a supporting race on cup day then you probably will have a lean following year.At least thats whats occured with last years cup day winners. There did not seem to be any sign whatsoever of his former training partner, which seems very odd seem it was the biggest week in the year for harness racing in NZ! For me the whole two days of Cup and Show day were somewhat tainted by the condition of the track.

Had good filly Amore Vita going great guns around the place for her NZ owners. winning a string of 2 and 3 ear old features. (horse now with Emma Stewart and won 5 from 10 this year) think Mark is playing thoroughbred trainer ? thee days .....and Nathan doing a bit of the 'hard' yards now that HaydenCullen has moved on. Natalie had a medical procedure a couple of months back, and was hoping to be back driving this month there, but wasn't recovered enough to do so. Olivia Thornley got the chance to Win another Group 1 anyway , with Chase the Dream. she got lucky with timing arriving by a nose from stablemates , as might of drawn criticism if beaten as was a 'mile' back final bend. still a wins a win so well done Olivia . some never Win a Group One in their career. so congrats to Olivia for getting it home.
Forbury
If you just backed john Morrison during cup week last two years you would be laughing all the way to the bank.what a top training driving performance by the best young person in NZ.if carter Dalgety continues the way hes going recently I'll start a column on his gasing/bad drives/race fixing.i have a handful already!he thinks he's Dexter OCD Dunn and must lead at all costs.i know the truth what happened with Dexter and why he did not come back to NZ for years.i hope carter starts driving well again soon.cam hart definitely showed he's leaps and bounds above every NZ driver.
