Interdominion Brisbane

The start of summer yesterday Dec 1st saw the Mile heats go off at Albion Park for round 1 Interdominion 2023 . right in the middle of first Summer storm as was so darn hot 🌧️, so that put a dampener on them .

The Interdominion trotters section was absolutely Dominated by the Victorians . the state of Victoria running 80-90% of Australia's trotting races that are run in Australia each year. sometimes the whole Race-Card is for squaregaiters races only, down there.

Winners were defending Champion Just Believe (for Sugers/Tubbs) , Ollivici for Chris Lang , and Plymouth Chubb driven well by oz best driver in Cam Hart (recent Nz Cup winning driver) who ran down the NZ owned and long odds on favourite Queen Elida . the queen has been dethroned ? 😋. All Vic's .

The Pacers Heats saw the 4 Favourites win easily . Swayzee for Grimson , Leap to Fame and Fame Assured for Queensland (both owned by Seymours) and the very impressive Better Eclipse for Sugars and Victoria. looped the field to sit parked and then pulled away from them sweetly late on.  You guys saw him in the RACE by Grins earlier in year and Messenger when 4th and 3rd. He's pretty good that bloke.  so are the Best 4 horses competing this year easily.

Old New Zealand horses running were placegetters Tommy Lincoln (who 3 years ago to the day was defeating Copy That and South Coast Arden in a group race at Auckland)  Betterzippit, Deus Ex, Spirit Of St Louis >  only 6th was a bit of a flop for his many Nz and Aus owners, as was also the other 'McCarthy trained'  one in old kiwi horse CantFindA BetterMan also only 6th .

It's called the Interdomion but is it really ?

Apart from Akuta who from NZ would even be worthy of a trip ?

And Akuta ain't in the same league as Swayzee.

I think you're right Mikey. The Interdominion is really meant to be Nz v Australia trained runners in competition . which traditionally saw some of the greatest clashes of Superstars ever seen.

so the 'Nz Trotting Cup' and 'The Race by Grins'  the past Couple of years , have been the true Interdominions of recent times.

Swayzee taking the choc's over Akuta this year for an Australia win in the Cup .

and Copy That seeing off All the Aus raiders (and Akuta) in last season's Nz Cup and the Cambridge The Race this year.  including Aussies Majestic Cruiser, Better Eclipse and RockNRoll Doo

so it looks like the Interdominion score is  2 - 1  to New-Zealand past 3 proper clashes.

And my mate wins. Grant giving a GRAND FINAL Preview with LEAP TO FAME.

my 2nd favourite horse SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS roaring up the fence to only just be denied .

The leader from NSW in the centre , Near 'shit itself' , as the 2 Champs came at him on either side and it just wanted to die , or run off , or anything to escape that menace 🤣🤣

they were 5 lengths of 4th though so a meritorious run . Go Spirit !!! Go Larry !!! FO Grimson !! lol.😁  old kiwi horse Betterzippit showing his 'Manawatu form' in that Heat..😉.

(Larry is the common name of Leap to Fame)

Gamma, from a punting perspective, just a total waste of time and energy!

The dividends are just not worth any effort as they are pretty pathetic.

Racing is ok but without anything on them, hard t9 het that enthused and to call it an Interdominion is questionable lol?

Bring on Geraldine and Xmas racing when Brodie always does very well!

you're right. but it's just an interest. I don't bet on the cricket or footy either but follow it with gusto lol. Hope you're ready to win the Group 1 Comp day Sunday at Addington ?

you're good odds at 8-1 😋😉👍 Blackie is 10's and drifting 😎

Yes from a punting perspective the 5 Interdominion heats run tonight,  even returned small Trifecta's as it panned out.

they paid $41 , $27, $4.40 , $165 (quinella was just $3 in that one), and $17.

so looks like the 14 out 15 of the most favoured runners ran the places  !!!. Good true to form stuff. good honest trotting blokes ? great to see.

I just watched that replay. Nerano impressive. A possible winner of final if he draws well and leap to fame doesn't.same owner as swayzee.

I used to follow him over here. I backed him when he won his first race at manawatu, although he was one of those horses that seemed to hang a bit and do just enough to make you think he could win next time with the right run. One of those horses you keep following thinking he had speed, but that you seemed to end up chasing your money on.

i just looked it up and see he had 2 wins from 16 starts,1 at manawatu and 1 at addington. I have followed him a little in australia because of that, but haven't taken much notice of who trained him. Certainly looks like he has gone to a higher level recently, especially this week. Has grimson always been his australian trainer?

No . he started out down the border area (riverina) nsw-vic.

then Grimson picked him up last Winter. doesn't seem to of ever had a 'plunge punt' on it like a lot of Grimson horses ?.. like they have with Hi MyNameIsJeff and several others.

James Rattray had NERANO for 4 starts late last year and ran 1.50.7 winning a year ago.

so am surprised Grimson hasn't won more with it based on that. that was just his 2nd win in the Interdominion heat , (with 8 placings)  from 15 Grimson race starts.

but going on what Grimson has achieved the Past 2 Interdominion Grand Finals , wouldn't put it past him to upset LEAP TO FAME

The second night Trotters section of heats produced 2 more Victoria quinellas.

The 'Queen' trained by ex-pat kiwi Brent Lilley and still owned by a host of Nz owners was once again nailed right on the line , this time by Lang's OLLIVICI .

and the 2nd Trotters heat saw the defending Champion (who clean swept heats and Final last December) in the great JUST BELIEVE , for Tubbs and Sugars , stride to Victory after sitting parked out,  over fellow Vic's in Plymouth Chubb and Mafusa Metro.

A real disappointment was former Interdominion winner in MAORI LAW , for ex-pat kiwis Richard Brosnan and with Anthony Butt steering ( in what appears to be his only drive this carnival) .. just a shadow of his former self from 2 years ago and finished down the track at 100-1 behind Ollivici.

The Final round Saturday over 2680m should see Grimson through with Nerano and Swayzzzzee easy enough with both horses drawn one in their heats.

The other 10 spots for his opponents still to be settled with LEAP TO FAME and BETTER ECLIPSE almost certainly through from the other 2 heats this week , along with PETE's SAID SO and Classy Washington and Manila Playboy also close to getting in.

This Heat will decide the Fate of a few .

very talented local 'Speak The Truth' needs to place , as does 'Our Money Rocks'............

and with the Former good New Zealand pacers 'Spirit of St Louis' and 'Hot and Treacherous' also on the CUSP of Grand Final Selection . This Heat might see some Fireworks 🎇

The above Heat went to NERANO and Grimson/Hart so they have 2 horses in the Grand Final next week . Young ex-pat kiwi Jack Trainor will drive Nerano in the GF. him being part of the Grimson machine and all .

Kiwi horse Hot and Treacherous missed out getting in the Final . that heat above was just too hard.

Making the Trotting Final were old North Island horses Funny Face and Mufasa Metro.

They look to have No Chance against Defending Interdominion Trot Champion Just Believe , who crushed them in last nights final round of heats . The Queen won her heat well though. Queen Elida owned in New Zealand is a definite chance for old kiwi trainer Brent Lilley

Geez Gammalite. What are they going to buzz that first furlong in with Turn It Up drawn the front as well? Could play into Larry’s lap if he stays out of it early.

He is such a fast beginner Turn It Up (mark still owns him and Nat's sister Vicki races him on lease.) He's got a bit old and not quite finishing off his races as well now though.

Could be a thorn in the Grimson Grand Final plan though? . or so could Future Assured who could be asked by owner Seymour to 'Go Forward' and 'Squeeze' lol. to help Larry out a bit too . That's what i'd do anyway 😆🤣.

all those years ago (40 to be exact can you believe it?) Gammalite gave Poor old John Noble (El Regale) the 'Squeeze' at the first corner to get in behind Popular Alm and then take the Win. John was driving 'all out' to keep 'Poppy's' back after the start from the second row... but had the gallop with a wheel under his legs and ended up 4 back the fence 😉😁. where there's a Will there's a Way mate  😎

The Interdominion Trotting Final . (won last time it was at Brisbane by Take A Moment for Anthony and Tim Butt)

NZ owned Queen Elida Very hard to beat for the Barron family . Just Believe , the best Aussie is the defending Champion after Clean sweeping last year. Been to Sweden and back this year. He does a great job , and has great draw here in the Final.

One of our best trainers Pete McMullen is driving old Cambridge trotter Funny Face. Can't work out why that is ? He trains GUS , but is driving for another Trainer ??? wouldn't see that sort of rubbish goings on in Nz . wonder what GUS's owners are thinking ? pay the bloke good training money and then he tries to beat ya with someone elses?? lol.  very strange indeed.

Looking at those 2 fields for the Grand Finals and you want 200-1 .🏆

(i'm getting 300-1 Sportsbet) 💰

Not without a chance is the SPIRIT of St Louis - QUEEN Elida double.👍

Both horses with quite a Few New Zealand owners. cool.

'Spirit' likely to trail through with cover from the 2nd row , now would seem to be with Trainer Luke McCarthy driving . If Grant Dixon with 'Larry' pours the pressure onto Swayzee he might crack ?.

Unbelievable he didn't crack when Akuta was looking at him turning in NZ Cup last month 🙄 , so he might be too good ? if runs like that again .   Spirit won't be far away though...

Queen Elida the ONLY horse capable of beating 'Just Believe' in the trot. 6 of the runners are over 100-1 and no chance...So pretty good value to have a crack at the upset as 8-1 second favourite.
