Race 7 cambridge/ turnpike joe

I watched turnpike joe to see how he ran in this race as he was the recent topic of conversation on here.

It had thought the last thing he would want to do is win,as he would be crucified ratings wise if he won.I certainly thought he should not have been the favorite because of that.

I did however assume he would appear to be trying.

Well after watching the race,i don't really know whether he was or not.

I certainly know anyone who watched the race would think turnpike joe was driven to lose, but who really knows.

What i find amazing is that the north island stipes ,once again, fail to even question d butcher on his drive.

If you want a reason why people don't back on north island harness racing. Just go look at that race and then read the stipes report.

Just had a thought. I wonder if theres a  junior drivers race next week that if he happened to win would be a penalty free win for him.

so i just looked it up and sure enough there is one.

were punters being taken for mugs again. my guess would be yes.

definitely a certainty beaten if he was driven to win!

Clearly a case of not driving the horse of not giving your horse every chance!

However might have just been a very poor drive like there is in so many races!

He got out so late and flew and was only one stride too late, so i am not sure that they didnt want to win, just poor judgement perhaps?

Wouldve won without doubt if Butcher hadve hooked out and gone to the outside anytime.

That race is the catalyst for casting doubts in the minds of punters in any race where you see d butcher make tactical decisions that don't appear obvious. In other words..well i've seen him  do it before,so did he just do it again?

Thats the perception that race will create last night for people who watched it.

The north island stipes just ignoring the drivers tactics also casts doubt on the oversight of the integrity of the product that people may be spending money on throughout nz.

I really don't understand why things like that happen. It damages the perception people have of the sport and of those involved. I just don't get it myself.

What else can you say.

I see the stewards gave this race a mention in todays report.

Well at least they asked him,but that should have occured on the night.

They accepted his explanation and said no charges were warranted.

They completely ignored the video evidence.

If anyone doesn't believe me,just go look at the video and make up your own mind.

In my opinion it was as blatant as you will see, ever.

I can just imagine what anyone who had that horse in the pick 6 or quaddie or had even a $1/ew on the horse would have been thinking on the night.

I always argued that the stipes bore a significant degree of responsibility for operation INCA,because they failed to properly penalise obvious questionable drives.

TURNPIKE JOE - held up early and middle stages of the run home. Driver D Butcher was warned for contacting the sulky wheel of PETER FORSBERG passing the 50m. In considering this matter Stewards took into account the minimal consequential effects.

Following the normal post meeting review of this race Stewards questioned Driver D Butcher (TURNPIKE JOE) regarding the tactics he adopted during this event. Mr Butcher stated that TURNPIKE JOE, which was having its fourth race day start, was competing against far more seasoned horses so he had elected to go back at the start before shifting down on to the marker line near the 2200m to follow runners which he rated as the main chances. Mr Butcher further stated that although he had the opportunity to shift out to follow PETER FORSBERG near the 1300m he decided not to do so given that gelding's recent performances. Mr Butcher then explained that he had been content to remain on the marker line racing down the back the final time and on the home turn given the strong tempo throughout but had then had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 50m mark. After considering Mr Butcher's explanation, Stewards were satisfied that the tactics he adopted were not so unreasonable given the circumstances as to be culpable and took the matter no further other than to note Mr Butcher's comments.

changes nothing given the publicity this horse has now had.

Connections must be aware of what everyone thinks.

Can you just imagine the comments were it to have been entered and even won the junior drivers race?

Besides they run one for his grade almost every week.

He's still a three year old until next week. Expect to see him in one when he is four

Good point.

He wasn't able to run in this weeks race so i got that bit wrong.

He will have to wait until next week for one of those races.

So you'll off load?

No. last week the conditions of the race allowed him to start in an up to R42 race.

He looks a nice horse to own,but this week hes in a far stronger race,an up to R51, given how harshly 1 win horses like him normally get treated ratings wise if they win early in their career. The ratings system treating him as it did, would have played a part in why he was driven like he was in the race discussed.

Aye Noodlum?

Almost 50 years ago to the day , 1/2 a century ago,  'Noodlum' was defeated for the first time. running 2nd at Addington.  The great horse squeezed out 28 wins from 42 career starts though .$75k earned.

'Gammalite' 94 wins from 179 starts and $1.3 million. class personified 😁

'Michael' getting to the line first on 4 occasions from 41 starts. and  $3000 career earnings. pretty ordinary mate  But....

don't worry Michael mate, 'Galah'  according to the harness data base >>>failed to trouble the starter at all and even get in the/a race. Bit of a troublesome youngster I fear ?  😂

Two of my favourites.  Unfortunately was on course when Noodlum was beaten.

Plus I don't swear black and blue that I'm not Noodlum like you did

Poor attempt to divert attention Chief/Noodlum
