Thought this rule been around with anyone in an official position with in racing, some may say it's a draconian one, but rules are rules, do you know the person involved, I think he's from over the coast, be interesting to see what penalty will be served. Yes the rules are the rules however isn't the rule a bit obsolete? I understand how it would be a problem in the pre-technology days but how could an Assistant Judge influence the result in their favour today? Brings back a memory from about 50+ years ago. The local Hokitika TAB agent was also the Westland Racing Club Judge. He called a horse in first which was clearly fourth even on the photo. Not even sure he got fined let alone suspended! The cheeky sod had the photo finish framed and put on his wall at home. He was the father of a mate of mine and when I went to the funeral and we were talking into the early boozed hours that photo came up. My mate could never work out why that picture was on the wall until I explained why. 3

Is it really that taxing that it needs at least two people to decide placings? Surely in this day and age with the photo finish, it is very easy to judge the placings? Wonder how much the assistant judge actually wagered? Lol

I think they actually 'developed' Film for quite some decades after the finish of a race. We're blessed with digital for sure these days. Have a look at this South Island race finish !!! hahahaha take 4 judges to sort it out.😆 Robert Dunn probably should of won it . Buried deep on fence with the fav 'Derby Double'. Hard on the back of winner (the leader on the fence) and travelling under a stranglehold still. Had to hold the whip in his teeth late on to grab hold lol..... kiwi ingenuity again ?? 😂 1

Haha...I bet Sunseeker several times via heart over head and learned my lesson. Even now when a stable I support has a runner I generally have a saver on the stable runner just to avoid having egg on my face. As to why Ces moved to NZ. Memory is hazy but his brother raced a few horses and bought them over to NZ to race and Ces bought them over. I may stand corrected on that? . A few years earlier he had a much better performed horse named Alec Peterson. Many of his horses were out of a mare with Peterson in the name. Must be a family connection there. Most were sired by True Averil who Clarrie also trained to win the NZ Cup in the early 70's beating Robalan and co.
Brodie
Clarrie I think had a freelegged pacer, think it was called Free Bet and was pretty fast! Wouldve been faster if it had a lighter driver than Eddie Cowie! 😂

There is a driver going around in Victoria that looks to be similar "shape" to Eddie. Can't remember his name. Clarrie Rhodes very instrumental in organising the first major air flights and sending horses back and forth from America for Feature racing and breeding .
