NZTR and Avondale Jockey Club Endorse Memorandum of Understanding

New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) would like to provide an update on recent developments concerning the Avondale Jockey Club (AJC) and the future of the Avondale racetrack.

In recent months, NZTR and AJC have been working together to discuss the future of the Avondale racecourse once racing concludes at the venue after the 2025/26 season.  On 16 September 2024 NZTR and AJC signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines shared intentions and the collaborative process both parties will follow in the coming months to attempt to finalise an agreement on the future of the racecourse.

“NZTR and AJC have worked together in good faith to reach an agreement on the future of the Club’s racecourse.” – Bruce Sharrock, CEO NZTR

“We are pleased with the progress throughout our conversations as we work to mutually agree on the pathway forward.”

Avondale Jockey Club will host a members-only forum 21 October to discuss the MOU with their membership, alongside NZTR representatives, and will answer any questions concerning the process at that time.

NZTR would like to thank AJC as we work toward the best outcome for the Club, West Auckland and broader racing communities.

Maybe Avondale should form a coalition with Ruakaka and setup a complex and have more winter racing there, otherwise they will have no idendity.

I know it is an out there idea but it has merit.  But only if they also turn it into a state of the art training centre.

That's a brilliant idea.

It isn't that brilliant.  But it is a combination of a lot of ideas that I've heard recently.  Trainers from south of Auckland and the Waikato would love a satellite training facility at Ruakaka.

Let's face it Pukekohe is stuffed.

Racing every two weeks during the late autumn and the winter would work.

Sure the track needs a bit of work but they have the land, a big beach and a lot of keen people.

Is Vince Mid still this side of the pearly gates?  He always come to mind when Avondale gets mentioned.

I feel a bit privileged too have got to work at a couple of these Night Avondale Cup nights!  When they started we didn't know if our camera gear could handle the night lighting! Helpful also when a good mate rides the winner on the Cup and we were all On! :)

An announcement about a pending state of war , to let the peasants in the industry know they are coming for your land!

I hope the Club get to prepare well for this sort of meeting!

Anyone know a current member?

Vince? Vince?

  • 3 weeks later...

Apparently a meeting held on Monday. Noticed that only members invited. I would have thought the only members there now would be those with vested interests like land agents.

Also Avondale due to race next Wednesday. Just what are they doing to draw attention to the day??? Good guess ... nothing. With so many opportunities over the last twenty years to do something positive the committee has done nothing.

Anyone with a report on the Monday meeting?
