Therefore it's pretty useless as a factor to consider when assessing a horse's chance. perhaps the trainer and track rider might if they have been trying them in private? but then, will that then transfer over into a actual race! If the horse improved 5 lengths, how do you know that was due to the blinkers? I'll take a wild stab in the dark as I go to collect and say yes

I'm not denying all those factors can and do make a difference to a horse's performance but, as a punter, how do you know the extent of the difference when assessing a horse's chance before a race? The answer is that you don't. Well I think you do (as a Punter) because the addition of gear is to be reported before the race to stewards ? I think that happens. and that is released to the public ? I'm not sure how or where actually as don't look that up. you are a fairly adept punter so probably don't need to use that sort of thing as a criteria either. (the gear the horse is wearing) Harness horses are exactly that . (covered in harness 🤣) and we have a range of 'Go Faster' things we can apply to get that extra metre or 2 advantage in a driving finish . Just like Blinkers do for the gallopers. Chief just has his Bliknkers on regarding this subject 😂. he's not to worried about the metre or 2. that's alright . some trainers like the Hayes wiill pop them on Mr B and Win a Big race with their little bit of help anyway.

Thomass
This has to been done to death But I cant get my head around the lack of understanding on this Shirley, if the DOYEN of ratings DAN, rates the BO performance as the 2nd best of its 42 starts and WILLO the jock says "the blinkers helped no end" Ipso facto stuff Punting blinkers, when the profile I use hits on a Black type performer (esp, after Xmas) taking into account value and the trainer/jockey decides to add extra gear (esp. blinkers and ESP. first up for example) Then I trust the trainer has worked said horse in such and noticed an improvement at a rating where I believe said horse is ALREADY going to be superior to it's competition Simply add @20/30% to my stake Cant get any clearer than that

Here's something to keep your intellect challenged. How about you go through the NZ fields for tomorrow and tell me which horses that have blinkers on are going to win? Yep, there's also UNAPPROVED PLATES They go on top of the head and very good inversed when slippery Like that Scotland/All Black test circa 1975 "That's not a touchdown...that's a splashdown"!!!

Pete Lane
Ok I've done it for you. Riccarton 2. Malfy Rosa 3. Sassman 5. Voice Over Bugatti 8. Spartan Tokyo Tycoon Tauranga 2. Geetee Forty Happy Venture 5. Rebecchi 8. Rule of Law The Prophet How do I know which one to back when there's two in the same race?
curious
I know a bit about one of those. Could improve 2-3 lengths but it won't be because of the blinkers and might not be enough to win. I also note that in the Gns for example, Marsh has sidewinkers on his two. How much do I adjust my pricing for that? Half what I do for blinkers? 2

Let's go $10 bucks on each . total $110 bucks 💰. and if we return more than 110 profit Chief has to relent and admit he is in the presence of Supreme beings (as far as Blinkers go) 😋 2

Pete Lane
Interesting that none of the fillies in the Guineas are blinkers on. You’d think they’d be climbing in to secure the advantage 🙄
Murray Fish
going the other way... "“He probably just over-raced a little bit on the first day,” Marsh said. “This time in, he’s feeling better and going better than he ever has before. He might have just got a bit too keen in the blinkers. The blinkers will come off for the Cup."
