Brodie
No shortage of horses in Canterbury unlike the North Island which is looking very sick! Palmerston North today had 6 races snd very small pathetic field and a huge loss for harness racing coffers. Yet, Ashburton on Thursday has 14 races and full fields with approx. 212 horses engaged! And yet Entain want to blow their promised stake money on the Club that is not performing and continues to make poor decisions??

And yet Entain want to blow their promised stake money on the Club that is not performing and continues to make poor decisions?? ya go about it all wrong mate . obviously because you're always cranky about it. Ashburton maidens and race card are all $17,000 races on Thursday . very hard to win in those big fields too. Each of those races should be 8 horses fields racing for $8,500 per race. common sense these days. Manawatu had 6 x $10,000 races. I think you're right it's still a bit too much? . The betting is so small , they should just run it as Non-tote racing . but for say 5k to 6k maybe. Today at Marburg QLD here , our Very slowest horse going that can't break 2 minutes ALL get a chance to get some money for Their OWNERS (very important) in 8 races worth $4000 each. They just need a few bucks to pay their way. So it's very Important to Limit the field size to 8 . to give them the best chance of earning some of it. no one will be betting on them. racing QLD can shell out $32k to support these people. won't hurt em' lol. THere Will be a LOT more horses paying their way at MARBURG and MANAWATU week to week, than at Ashburton in those silly huge fields , where the horse will be 'Busting a Gut' , just to run a place ., and be flattened by the effort , and earn nothing for their trouble. Even the form at CAMBRIDGE on Friday of the horses is WAY WAY better than anything racing at Ashburton in general , because the Smaller (more sensible fields in these days and times) , enables the contestants to EARN Something. Ashburton will be just full of losers ( many owners and Punters)

Shad
Survival of the smaller harness clubs certainly is a battle, ashburton generally seem to have plenty of horses, times are getting tougher and costs higher, do manawatu still have the greyhounds, was trying to recall the name of the greyhound track there. Do you see a correlation between poor field numbers in the north island and Peter Lamb never being the starter up there?
Gammalite
Here's what I put on a galloping thread earlier today >> Today at ASHBURTON the trotters use the mobile in race 1 ( that's sensible) BUT in races 3 + 6 + 9 with mammoth some 16 horse fields , the Starter is NO CHANCE of getting those 3 trots away from a stand without chaos.. There will be more gallopers than at Riccarton in those 3 races 😆.🏇. THE RESULT Race 1 had 3 gallop out at the start and that was mobile Lol (including hot fav with John Dunn driving. Race 3 . well here's the video . I think the commentator was worried none would finish at one stage. JUST a Disgrace to racing . What Punter Anywhere would put even Play money on this shambles/\??? Sets Trotting back Decades. to just AMATEUR Sport. crazy stuff. maybe they should abandon races 6 and 9 ? 🤣
Gammalite
Well some professionals are still in action. Greg Sugars there on CATCHAFIRE driving a great race to beat John Dunn in the 7th. hezza ripper and looks after my $10ew nicely 💰. thank you Greg. Might go $10ew 'Scarlets Legacy' in the 10th race now, to see if Greg can beat John again?. give em' grief son !!! Think 'Tower Of Love' for the Court team will be too strong for Greg's horse in the last race today. Bob Butt having some hair raising drives lately but should be able to get that one home . It went Huge last start and just missed. Might pop 20ew on it to win a hundy .(all going well 😁)
