How can a horse slip on a Heavy 8?

Whatever the reason,  the horse certainly lost it's footing.

Didn't seem to be in a position to clip heels either.

A horse did fall in race two but the races were abandoned after a slip in race three, on a different part of the track.

55 mills of rain yesty for Gore after a few days of none and being warm that would make grass as greasy as a butchers diddle, a heavy 8 may have been a exaggeration, not much you can do I guess, Wingatuis heavy as at yesty but gee what a battle racing thoughrabreds in Southland  only 4 days before Xmas.

So safe to run first 3 races…. but deemed unsafe for racing after???

I think it went from good to heavy in about two days. Bloody tough on the poor Southern trainers and jockeys. They get hardly any opportunities. I think all the ballots had to scratch out of several races. I had a look this morning and noticed hardly any scratchings from horses safely in the fields, which was amazing considering they accepted on a good track and were prepared to race on a heavy track.

Compare that with Te Rapa yesterday. 10 scratchings and 7 starters in a maiden race on a track that was perfectly ok. I think there's a Taranaki meeting next week with average field sizes of about 6. There is a real imbalance in opportunities. Today doesn't help.

Year after year, Taranaki not once but twice race between Xmas and New Years, nothing changes, very small fields, this year they take Hawkes Bay day and Wanganui take Taranakis, would make sense to run dual meetings, as they do at New Year, the real issue with Hawkes Bay though is closing all the other tracks in the East Coast area means there is no alternative, even compounde by the fact that the East Coast has no tracks in commission at present.

No stipes report yet but it looked to me like Vanderdonk clipped heels when Hot Shot shifted out in front of it insufficiently clear.

VdD put a foot in a hole and knuckled over dropping Rohan.

Track inconsistent, heavier in some places than others

Incredible that Rebecca Haley who couldn't make the grade as a jockey now finds herself the Chairperson of Stewards at Gore.

And if Haley dictated this Stewards report, when using a noun that is owned by someone, the correct pronunciation is their not there FFS.

Strangely, I still don't see that report on Loveracing. Where did you get it from?

Race 2 ENTAIN/NZB INSURANCE PEARL SERIES MAIDEN (1200m)

VANDERDONK (R Mudhoo) - Slow to begin. Blundered passing the 300 metres dislodging rider R Mudhoo who was examined by the St John Ambulance personnel and cleared of any injury. Mr Mudhoo reported the gelding was having its first start in visor blinkers and had overreacted when in restricted room.

Race 3 IDEAL RACING GYPSY DAY (1200m)

STIMULANT (T Comignaghi) - Lost its footing passing the 700 metres.

Following the race a number of riders expressed concern with a section of the track near the 700 metres, with one rider advising their mount had slipped which was verified by Steward’s films. A track inspection team of Stewards, riders and a club official inspected the area concerned. Riders conducted a meeting after which their representative advised Stewards it was a unanimous decision not to continue racing due to the unsafe nature of today’s track conditions. Accordingly, Stewards abandoned the remainder of the meeting.
