I've only watched a replay.  Did a report come through on Chris Dell at all?  I'm wondering if the races were abandoned due to the state of the rider, rather than the track as it didn't look like a slip to me.

Both Jockeys fine.

Interviewing Kate Hercock and querying rail position. Interesting.

Speaking up finally , time to utilise all the industry assets that we can. Enough of this land grab by stealth , they have ruined the industry.

Thanks for the alternate view of the race which showed no clipping of heels.  Could you be absolutely sure the horse hasn't struck itself as a cause to fall?  Evidently riders reported to Jonathan Riddell they felt no problems with the track.

No surface or running rail problems were detected prior to racing, and a different situation to the day before at Wanganui where there were heavy downpours at intervals.

If we had more tracks we would just spread the abandonments.  The issue is a lack of investment in infrastructure and track renovations for decades.  Arguably we don't have enough spare capital to fix the problem so adding more underfunded tracks is only going to make it worse not better.

Rubbish, plenty of tracks able to cope with jumpouts /trials/gallops etc but not used for racing 9or gone now because they have been left to rot). I agree there needs to be reinvestment in infrastructure and thats why you utilise everything available , also perhaps the venues chosen to continue racing on aren't the right ones. They have largely been chosen because of location and industry nepotism.

30 years ago the Otaki track was described as 'Well banked and drained, resulting in horses performing pleasingly when racing on the inside'. Three decades of chronic under investment has left the industry with massive track issues. The new CEO has his work cut out to sort this out and at the same time issue a new credible calendar..BUT will he?

Rubbish or rather crap.  You can't compare jumpouts or trials or gallops with raceday conditions!  Who cares if someone sits up on your horse in a jumpout or goes slower to avoid an issue.

You miss the point.  The industry doesn't have enough infrastructure to adequately look after half the tracks it has now let alone any of the others you infer.  Half the problem at Otaki is they don't have an adequate irrigation system and can't afford to fix the one they have.  It has been an issue for at least two decades.

Banging the same drum over and over isn't going to make your view correct.  Are you suggesting Hawkes Bay isn't one of what you call the "chosen OBC few"?

Hell the WRC can't afford to look after Trentham properly!

Ye reap what ye sow!

No. He will fall in to the culture that has existed within the organisation for a very long time. All the others did.

Probably still is but it has a crap irrigation system and the club probably can't afford to pay for the water and power to run it!

As they have a track that is used for racing, are they not subsidised by NZTR to provide a good racing surface?

I await the Stipes Report.  Jockeys were not riding as if the track was slippery or felt unsafe under them.  There was tightening and bumping that didn't result in slipping or falling.

They get peanuts and after decades of peanuts when gold bars were required you get tracks now that are near impossible to manage.

That's the burning question.

Does he even know about these matters?
