Well the Ellerslie track looked magnificent for todays trials !

The grass now looking lush and a bit of give in it as well I noted ! Getting better by the week too !

And I see Ellerslie { ATR } was awarded the Award for top Metro club in NZ .

Well done ATR.

Why?

Why not....great that the track looking and performing so well !

And the awards for the categories that Clubs need to be performing well in/focusing on if they going to futureproof their existences.

Like most businesses and sports ,racing has a number of annual awards to recognise excellent so it good Clubs be included too !

And good on ATR they appear to be striving for continual improvement.

Today there was food /drink provided in the saddling/stabling area for the stable staff .....and there were at least 2 x workers washing and mopping all the Publlc stand seating . And I believe a larger big screen about to be set up on race day.

Nice to see !

How would you know there was "a bit of give" in the track?  Have Ellerslie started to give full disclosure of how they measure the track rating?

Yes in response to numerous complaints.  Shame they didn't follow the lead of the likes of Matamata or Foxton who have been providing food and drinks service on trial days for decades.

I haven't seen the results of that mentioned anywhere. All a bit underwhelming PR wise. Do you think NZTR are a bit embarrassed by the results. Who were the other winners?

Well you couldn't award one finalist who has had 3 abandoned meetings in 5 years!

Seems to be a total secret. Only TAB4E seems to know, and according to him Auck only won their category. I presume the overall winner is either Central Otago or Wingatui. They are the only two without many negative marks.

2 days of significant rain for Auckland pre raceday,  maybe the best test of the tracks ability to hold regular racing, maybe they might not want Avondales racday after Saturday.

It's been suggested  by some Avondales money be spent setting up winter racing at Ruakaka, that's not stupid.

Well Ruakaka does need some renovation - desperately needs rain at the moment as I understand the track grass has browned right off due to irrigation restrictions and the drought.

I know at least two major trainers who would set up a winter/early spring satelite stable at Ruakaka if they were guaranteed a meeting every fortnight.

My recently improved eyes confirmed this....and the sound of the gallops , the smell of the turf.....and things you pick up from being there.

All technical stuff !

I said there were only two clubs in the noms who haven't had abandonments or disasters of one type or another. I still think Wingatui has been very generously treated as far as boosted stakes go.

When they say club of the year it sounds like the calendar year 2024. I'm not sure why the results have been kept such a secret.

The old fella is playing with words, feeling hurt. When you have said "So basically you have no idea" he is suggesting you are being dirt(y) with the play being the word grass but implying you (smoke).

Thin skinned or a skinfull?
