To be fair the weather is fairly horrendous down there at the moment. 40km/hr winds and torrential rain. Wouldn't be all that safe. Christchurch has been placed under a state of emergency after torrential rain triggered widespread flooding. The announcement was made by Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell, who has travelled to Canterbury this afternoon to survey the damage. This will require changes to starting limits and some distances. Early scratchings will be reinstated. The updated official fields are currently being processed. The black-type status of the Berkley Stud Champagne Stakes (Listed) will be decided by NZ Pattern Committee, given the usual protocols around a change of track. Further updates to follow. It’s mainly in the Selwyn district or areas that flood all the time, so be exception is Akaroa highway, that’s bad.
