OLDWHITEMAN
Again we have Canterbury stables dominating a two-day meeting and shutting the locals out. There were only two local winners during the Waterlea meeting. Tia Dalma won on the first day for trainer Alan Shutkowski, while Murray Pasha won today with Jazelle. M. Gill picked up a placing and appearance money which will pay the bills for a few weeks. How long can these small-time local trainers survive when Canterbury raiders take all the money? Southland is the only place that the local horses are competitive with Canterbury trained horses. Racing is doomed in these areas if this trend continues... Somewhat transparent but good try.

Whiteman, most enthusiasts are aware that harness racing is pretty weak in the Marlborough region and that is why the horses go to Palmerston North where the quality of horse is not as good! They do pick up their fair share of winners up there. The good thing about the racing on the Nelson Blenheim circuit is that the stake money is shared around although with costs most owners won’t be flush with cash. Great to see the AllStars stables winning races in Australia, and leaving us alone!

Great to see the AllStars stables winning races in Australia, and leaving us alone! Brodie, you make some reasonable points but there is a flaw in your argument. Yes, Tasman/Nelson trained horses taste some success at Manawatu, however the majority of races there are won by Michael House, a Canterbury trainer. Unless a horse wins at Manawatu it is likely to be a loss-making exercise going there as ferry costs are steep. Once costs are subtracted even Tasman/Nelson trainers who win at Manawatu would have little to show for it probably enough cash to cover a month or two of stable expenses? Then we have the problem of Canterbury and Nelson/Tasman trained horses winning most of the races at Manawatu and shutting out the local trainers from that region. The stake money is shared around but the vast majority of it goes to Canterbury trainers leaving little for local trainers and owners. I believe this is unsustainable in the long term. All Stars do not race at either Marlborough or Manawatu so your comment is invalid.
Brodie
Whiteman, most owners throughout NZ know that it is very difficult to break even racing horses in NZ! Not too sure what your last comment about the AllStars not racing at Manawatu or Marlborough is meant to mean? They prefer to race for the big money to clean up those races, that is what the problem is!

If it wasn't for the visitors there would not be enough horses to hold the meetings. I think, considering how few horses are trained in the top of the South Island they do well to win what they do. As far as I know the Nelson/Blenheim circuit has always been dominated by Canterbury horses due to their superior numbers. 4
Counter Punch
Numbers wise, probably not a bad result for the locals. 250 odds horses lined up over the two days of racing - close to 40 of them were locals (Kaikoura north). Couple of wins - one each day and 10 top five placings. Looking at some of the horses which lined up - they've probably done pretty well, really.
Happy Sunrise
Can't believe this thread ended up with the All Stars in it. I would never have bet on that happening. Not in a million years.... 1

I do, so if he does I will buy him a beer at the Marlborough Clubs.

Happy Sunrise
I wonder if that pair on the roof will induce copycats? On the green at the course next to Wyndham racetrack? In Aaron White's booth during the race? Was going to suggest a few places on the coast but this sort of behaviour is normal practice there lol Edited January 21, 2019 by Happy Sunrise 1

Well, the guy is a bit of an exhibitionist but careful at the same time. Is pushing the laws but not breaking them so it can't too outrageous or as simple as a brown eye ( indecent exposure) so what is next is a tough one. Maybe an optical illusion? He stands on the roof and has it set up like he has a 10 foot c*#k but it is a hose in the the back ground. I'm sure you get my drift.
