Perhaps the Cup is being run for too much money ? There's not enough Local Open class talent to hold out the Aussie rivals and a huge chunk of the money is just going overseas.

Victoria cut their Stakes from $500,000 to $350,000 for the Hunter Cup this year . with the drop in revenue biting.

The BIG trot of The Great Southern Star and the soon upcoming Time honoured Victoria Cup  have both reduced from $300,000 to $250,000 this season.

Perhaps NZ should of done the same ?? to stop as many Horses arriving from overseas for the big prizes .?  Swayzee and Just Believe cutting a swathe out of the NZ pockets the past 2 years already.

There's some great racing Coming Up in NOVEMber soon though . Check this Out ! from the HRV web.

Next Thursday (August 28) is the cut-off to nominate for the $NZ1mil Group 1 IRT NZ Trotting Cup at $NZ400,000 Group 1 Renwick Farms Dominion Trot – both run at Addington on November 11.

Aussies won both races last year with Swayzee successfully defending his NZ Cup crown and Just Believe posting his last Group 1 win in the Dominion.

With the likes of Leap To Fame, Swayzee, Arcee Phoenix and probably Keayang Chucky slated to make the trip this year, the Aussie presence will be stronger than ever.

Those two features are the backbone of a massive 11 days of racing and three feature Addington meetings, where more than $NZ4 million in prize money is up for grabs, including $NZ1.26mil for open-class pacers, $NZ500,000 for open-class trotters and $NZ925,000 for 3YO pacing fillies.

The feature race schedule is:

BOAY Legend Mo'Unga Strikes !! . roaring home from last.

to get the chocolates in the Group 3 Maurice Holmes Vase at Addington tonight .

That Field had No NZ Cup quality horses except himself though , so was intitled to Win really.

If gets a sit in behind leader in the NZ Cup , could be a place chance for sure.🤔

Wouldn't want to have it again though . Sitting last to the quarter was Robbie Close ,going 5 wide turning in,  but got up on the line . Must of gone a bit better than 55 seconds home. But they walked before that.

Good on ya Robbie , and Regan Todd too. Has a beautiful horses there in Big Mo'  to work alongside his Marketplace Derby star. Could have a Big year ? . Hope Borriso'kane comes back too. He's another good one.

New Brighton Cup is next up tonight in the run to the NZ Cup 2025.

4 horses are qualified already ,and old mate AKUTA looks sure to be number 5 , drawn the pole in the New Brighton Cup 🏆 tonight.

The 4 in the NZ Cup 🏆 already are:  Swayzee (current title holder) Republican Party , Leap to Fame (interdom winner)  and the BOAY star Mo'Unga.

Mo'Unga is missing tonight from the New Brighton Cup which seems very strange after his last start win against inferior opposition during August, and you would think would need a good hit-out for progression against the better runners tonight in what looked an ideal race for him. anyway chewing chaff at home I spose 🤔. can't win races from there 🙄

and

For the punters: with Mark returning to Addington , the scene of the amazing list of his group Wins, well get stuck into a Akuta - Rubira - Oscar B treble with the great man driving , should net you 15-1.

a lazy 'Tenner' to support the great man Marky Boy,  for $150 return for the week-end. very nice 👍💰🍻.

(throw in stablemate Midnight Miki (B.orange) as well for a saver , just in case , as Rubira has drawn awkwardly in the 3 yearold Johnny Globe classic race 10,  and might not get all the favours)

The Canterbury Classic R10 at Addington tonight Oct 17th is the next step for some to see if will be competitive in a NZ Cup.

Republican Party already qualified , and a threat here too, after his solid last start win.

Perhaps Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan will show their hand tonight ?  Sooner The Bettor and Merlin are ready to put their best foot forward tonight after great runs in the North going right handed lately.  They look a great chance tonight from the good barrier draws.

Meanwhile, At Melton in Victoria, the NZ Cup favourite LEAP TO FAME is in the Victoria Cup Saturday night.

Surprisingly , the Cup holder and arch rival SWAYZEE is not in , after winning this race last year. Grimson having

Hi MynameisJeff nz  going lickety split from the 2 barrier instead , and will try and run them ragged. Victoria Cup is only 2240m and Leap To Fame is on the second line so will have to circle the field Mid-race.

Hi MynameisJeff NZ has rattled off a couple of 1.49 miles lately at home in Menangle and is cherry ripe to go for the upset win over 'Larry' the QLD legend.
