It's almost as bad as putting pineapple on pizza. Quote

Chief Stipe Posted September 3 Posted September 3 Horse meat has a similar level of protein to beef but higher iron and less fat. Closer to bambi than bobby in taste. Quote

That many horses standing on 3 legs with one snapped etc. must of been a rough round up somewhere. Anyway MERAMIST processes them as Human Consumption and uses standards for that , and export to Russia and Japan mainly, and the European Union . Have never seen it in Aus for human consumption, although you do see the odd Kangaroo dish here and there. I just can't though. it's just not right. What NATION would eat it's National Emblem ?? that's just a disgrace lol 🤣. you bloke don't eat kiwi instead of chicken do you ? 2 Quote

hesi Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 Where would the horsemeat come from We know the beef in the steak and mince pies is farmed specifically, but not aware of any concerns in NZ that farm horses for their meat, so has to be 'old' tough?? meat Quote

And anyone that thinks otherwise it reflects just as poorly on them. Quote

They used to export around 300,000 kg a year. It was mentiomed in an article in the news about 15 years ago when concerns were raised about horse meat being sold for pet food at some South Auckland markets was being consumed by Pacific Island families. 600,000 tonnes of horse meat is consumed globally by humans. The Cheval I tried about 25 years ago was served in a Wellington restuarant alongside other "exotic" meats like crocodile, emu, kangaroo etc. I understand how it might upset some people but I do find it a contradiction that many of those same people turn a blind eye to a horse being sold to a knackers yard to eventually be rendered down into pet food and other by-products. Shad Posted September 3 Posted September 3 The days of clover exports, used to take many of them, I guess just like any other meats, an as long as the are treated humanely along the way. Quote
hesi Posted September 3 Author Posted September 3 I guess the point I was making, was that beef are specifically farmed for their meat. Horses are not and I don't think this would be acceptable in NZ. Just look at the furore over greyhound treatment. Therefore any horsemeat for human consumption would have to be of questionable and variable quality. And no, I will never eat horsemeat 2 Quote
Shab Posted September 29 Posted September 29 In Otautahi today so went and got one. Quality pie, nice people. Couldn't get over how sweet it tasted. Like sugar added or something. $9.50 way too much percentage for me. Went out to Halswell to win cost back. Tab in Halswell Tavern no more just a couple of terminals. Wanted to take a bunch of sub k collect bets for Randwick but all in option closed in front of my eyes. Went to another tab a few hours later final field up, odds dropped, could take but screens are blank when select race. Monop hell bent on making you bet on account. Where's the fun? Quote
