Did you do set ups of Fluffin Guy and Donkey...in bed together...

...screwing the Racing Industry?

Winn offers hope instead of Guys hop step and jump the hell out of the way...

Cindy's now a recognised World Leader while Slimon is still in his jammies salivating...that he wishes he could...

The racing industry is very apt at screwing themselves.  The fact that the Nats didn't do anything doesn't change that.

It's the domain of bludgers to want the government to come to the rescue.

Polly, we've screwrd up and we've got no money. Please sir, can I have some more.

The nats did the right thing. Leave them to themselves and limit the damage to the rest of the country.

Correct.  Funny how the Thoroughbred industry which earns the most is the first to circle the wagons.  Word on the street is they want the new complex at Cambridge to be Gallops only.

At least you recognise the laissez- faire nature of Knat Governence...

The model the Thoroughbred Industry has to operate under...including dragging along two other codes...

...is simply intolerable....

Thoroughbreds should stand alone...in partnership with the Australian Industry...

..because they're inexorably linked...

...thank God they've finally decided to go part way

Why should any Government interfere or give handouts to an industry that should be able to stand on its own?  Reminds me of SMP.

As for dragging along the other two codes that's a nonsense argument.  Arguably the other two codes don't get their fair share and all three rely on Pokies and Sports betting.

What are you on about?

Many industries are supported by Government...

The Americas Cup, Sky Convention Centre, Tiwai Point...hell the Film Industry...

....for the greater OVERALL good...imagine how many LESS tourist dollars would have gone elsewhere without LOTR...

Winn has recently travelled to Ireland to discover why their Racing Industry is so much better than ours...

Hes probably had a wee meeting with Dean Mak about it...

As Messiah says...the Thoroughbred Industry should be able in charge of its own destiny...

Imagine Ireland have a poisoned Harness chalice hanging around its neck?

Its inconceivable

The ones who have screwed up are the big clubs (and NZTR) and they are the ones who should be rationalising their assets and standing on their own two feet.  See the RJC submission on the Venue plan.

In fact the Clubs should be individually contracted to the TAB to provide product and bypass those bludgers at NZTR.  Pay them a levy to keep them going(and a bloody small one at that).  Adjust the percentages to reflect the day of the week the racing is held(ie a Tuesday is not as good as a Saturday so a higher percentage to encourage Clubs to race on midweek dates) and the time of year(a winter Thursday obviously is not as desirable as a Christmas time Thursday so should get a higher percentage).  At the end of the year divide up the profits proportionately.

Set up the clubs(probably as clusters) to run their own on course totes and organise their own raceday services.

You will be earning based on merit efficiency and performance not on the fact that you have a CEO who is constantly in Bernard's ear or a Committee that has the right connections.

Reefton , you have shown more forward thinking in those few sentences than anything that has come out of NZTR or NZRB in the last 5 years . Imagine if we could get just 10 people of a similar depth of passion and base understanding of horse racing into positions of decision making on the future of thoroughbred racing , the game would definatly have a brighter future . I'm sure confidence levels would go through the roof at ground level .

Agree Reefton and Nomates ...everyone has given up hope, bereft of Ideas and just waiting on Winnie to wave a magic wand !

Clubs need to do it for themselves with FAIRLY (not who ya know) allocated Pokie funds upping Stakes in conjunction with an organised Sponsors /Punters room.

Excellent mid race entertainment, to make paying a public gate charge, worth while.

Make racing a horse as an owner, enjoyable again, and not an exercise in opening the wallet, and propping up an Industry !

Well...those at the top end are quite happy , and looked after, Thank you very much..., there in lies the problem !
