And our maiden would be half the length of the straight behind running 1.54. You are watching the top open class free forallers Brodie, and miles have been the fare in the States since Adam was a cowboy. Get used to it, and if you find it boring don't watch it . If anything is becomming boring , it's yr banal comments. Globe, I don’t bother watching Mile Racing or investing on it. Why are the Yanks so preoccupied with Mile Racing? Geez, if that is all we had here, there would be bugger all interest in the sport. Mile, after mile after Mile! Leave most intelligent punters out of it!!!!! The mile racing has few permutations in it. I suppose that is why I like the longer distances, stand V mobile, grass v grit etc. Just holds more intrigue and more chance to 'find' a winner.

Yes the TAB has made it far more difficult with their methods of reducing dividends and Fixed Odds on offer as well as restrictions, I appreciate that. As Happy states though, you keep pressing on, and at the end of the day, the TAB are actually costing the industry by their methods! Will be interesting to see what this coming years financial returns to racing are! Edited September 24, 2018 by Brodie

What do you mean fixed yield Happy? You are better off with a lower yield than a higher one most often if your turnover is better. Turn the punter off and a high yield of buggerall turnover will see the industry continue to go backwards.

A mile is easier to understand than 1760 yards or 5280 feet (how many furlongs is that)? Possibly they are kept short in distance to look after their fan base? When you think of it, many Yanks are NASCAR fans & most of their races are 400 or 500 miles. At a beer every ten laps, most fans are comatose or dead by the end of the race. 1

Leave most intelligent punters out of it!!!!! Hi Brodie, 9 Races over 1 mile this Friday night at Alexandra Park. Should be interesting racing, ranging from the maiden trot through to the open class trot, and everything else between. The only one race from a stand is over 2200 metres, which is the open class pace. I do not think it will be boring, as there is such a wide range of abilities across the board in each race. Just my opinion!! Cheers. Robert.

Happy Sunrise
Big test tomorrow morning for Lazarus. Will he win? I will say no with Mcwicked drawn 1.
Happy Sunrise
Crazy. 1.46.2 The TV pictures made them look like they were in fast forward! Lazarus was never going to win that so massive effort to get second. Draws are everything.

Tremendous effort to get so close. Not 100% sure, but I suspect the time may have actually been 1.46.4 — the Americans tend to express times in 1/5ths rather than 1/10ths of a second.

Having made the supreme sacrifice to get up at 0400, only to discover our timing was awry and we still had to sit through the national anthems and haka, the 20yo and I were determined to see it through to the eventually-not-so-bitter end! The sleeping members of the household were not so happy when Savea scored the match-winner... I assume you've found Laz's replay by now, but if not it's on here: http://www.harnesslink.com/International/McWicked-paces-1-46.2-beats-Lazarus-at-Red-Mile Incidentally, the thesis that mile racing is inherently boring didn't get much support from this race. There were, what, 3 (?) changes of lead, horses were on and off the pegs, the leaders ended up amongst the also-rans, the winner came from 4th and the runner-up form 6th/7th, and it was all over in a tick over 1:46. Hard to beat that for entertainment!

Why don't you just treat yourself to a night out at the local track, while you are there. While you are at it , strike up a conversation with some of the locals and gather an insight into why they love mile racing. We can then listen with all ears on your return. ( hopefully) . Brodie
Went to the Meadowlands one time I was in New York. Havent bothered to go back there. Hassle getting there from Manhattan couple,of trains etc. Didnt have Fixed Odds either and didn’t know the horses, so a gamble which I don’t like to do!!! Did get a collect and thought it paid well, but the divs are for $2 units so effectively halve your div. Coming back to NZ late Wednesday for a holiday, as these holidays involve a lot of work. Been great though and very good company. Need to get back into the serious stuff!!!!! Edited October 7, 2018 by Brodie
