the galah
That just seemed rather cruel to run a horse as lame as that today. Watch its video at addington 2 days ago and you had to think it was a very lame horse. Amazingly it was passed fit to race by the vet again today. Just as amazingly its driver didn't have any sense at all,and allowed it to run. To me it looks like it has either a fracture ,or a bad foot bruise. Maybe they need to get someone with at least one good eye to check it out pre race next time. Edited July 28, 2019 by the galah

They breed them tough down south!,
snypnz
I was on course, even had it in a trifecta, didn't know about the Addington run, could definitely tell something wasn't right. I thought maybe gear was off or something, very disappointed if they let it run injured.
Rusty
A blind man could see it wasn't right pre-race.

the galah
I see the stipes report says the horse had swelling in its left fore leg in the vicinity of the suspensory ligament. Given the horse was lame before the race, how could this problem not be noticed. Did they not just take the boot off and have a look. Also,if the horse was lame at addington then surely some swelling would have been there pre race. I had thought this horse had to have a problem which was not obvious, however it seems it may have just been ignored. The stipes have opened an inquiry into it. Shad
You would have thought given the horse welfare these days, this would have been sorted pre race.
Rusty
The vet that gave the clearance to run, needs to be replaced. Everyone in their field of employment makes mistakes (noone is perfect except for Blair Orange). But sometimes when the mistakes made are so bad, their employment or contract is terminated. That is what needs to happen here. Edited July 28, 2019 by Rusty
Dougie
3 weeks since, horse stated as stood down but nothing from stewards re update, did they forget, not care, are they spending all there time watching Sam Thornley at trails? Cant find any info on HRNZ or RIU. Pretty poor.
Dougie
Stewards have completed an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding KANSAS CITY JIM (R McIlwrick) competing in and completing this race after appearing to be noticeably awkward in its action throughout the preliminary and event itself. Resulting from this inquiry Stewards deemed that the gait of KANSAS CITY JIM was so obviously uncomfortable that it should have been of sufficient concern to Mr McIlwrick to warrant retiring that runner from the race. Accordingly Mr McIlwrick has been reprimanded for failing to demonstrate the standard required of a competent Horseman. So reading this report out today the stewards who watch the prelim either didn't notice the action of the horse/ weren't even watching/ noticed the action was sus but couldn't be arsed doing anything about it or were having their 4th beer and know all they have to do is blame the driver. Yes Rory is at fault but basically I read this as the stewards don't have any responsibility to pick up if a horse is lame or not fit to race its solely the driver and trainers responsibility. Hmmmmm

Hmmmmm They did notice though didn't they. That's why the vet was asked to inspect the horse pre race. The vet passed a badly lame horse as fit to rrace. So mcillwrick gets a reprimand, which seems fully deserved, but no mention of the vet nor the trainer. Is that it?

Vet will not be spotted working for the RIU again. As it's an employment issue, it won't appear in any stewards report.
