Guest CrossCodes
You reallly have to wonder goes on in some riders heads, the winners all say we're coming hard against the rail, yet some still think they know best and were scouting wide off the track the whole race? You really can't beat a pattern of the day so not sure what some of them were thinking today. The young boy on Art Deco made some of the senior riders look spastic with the way he just drove underneath them all.

Turny
The first track I would close down or spend a fortune in doing up - I just can't get excited for it yet they have a great progressive Board and are super hosts but the track us shtye - Tom
Newmarket
To be honest, it was hard watching both nz venues today. Seems we get bog tracks about 8 months per year?
hesi
The trouble with tracks like today, is that in most races only 2-3 horses handle it(have a look at how far back some of the stragglers came in). It becomes pretty clear 800m out who those horses are, so you know very early whether you have done your dough or not Art Deco is always a good bey in those conditions, though it is wiser not to bet, Lotto if you want a lottery With Highlad, the trainer had a concern that the horse would handle it, but it was clear 1000m out the horse was going to win
barryb
Come on be fair guys, first heavy tracks of the year and it’s mid May. Plenty of unseasonal track horses who will have had last runs today this prep.

Fair point The TAB got it right with their comment, but I listened to Trackside Radio this morning and they were tipping out Show the World to run into a place, which really surprised me, as the horse is well known to dislike anything but a good surface. The track was rated S7 at that time

You had horses with wet track form, course stats, but were dropping out half way thru race? This happens for the next 6 months? No wonder punters bet more on AU's racing.....
Turny
So right Kak, give NZ a very wide berth till September - it now is a total lottery and the 2 meetings yesterday were the worst possible advert beamed into Aussie - terrible but it us winter racing if that's your go , not for me

There are various types of Heavy 11's as you well know, Raining, loose, holding. I am not trying to be a smart arse, just highlighting when you say Wet Track form as it covers a raft of possibilities. Do the homework in winter and you will be hugely rewarded. Barry, I must be an average punter. I quite liked Gentil Tonton yesterday at Roto . Horse won same venue in July last year, heavy 11, with similar buildup. It did carry 3.5kg less than yesterday, but handled the track well last year. So yesterday, so called same track conditions, couldn’t keep up after 400m? Punters need more info, you need more track ratings, should have been heavy 15!, obviously yesterday’s track a heap worse than previous year, winning time reflects that. Thats why it is far easier doing form in Aussie, where metro form holds up well, you wouldn’t have 75% of the field no chance half way thru race. Good that you see benefits Barry, but I think more would agree with me than you. These tracks need work, decent drainage, it’s a sham. Huey
I also love winter racing, it offers great divvies even if you take an easybet, listen to whatever the chat is on the radio in the morning and then take something else . Back the bloodlines , back the claimers, punt the trainers it's great fun!
hesi
I have to admit winter racing is ingrained in my punting soul. Rather than relying on memory, probably a good idea to make notes about the actual state of the track, rainfall leading up to raceday, rain on raceday etc etc, and what ran well, and any notable failures. Tauranga is always very tricky on a very heavy track Also heavy track sires are worth following, remember Head Hunter and a few more
Guest CrossCodes
And again today Wiremu Pinn made a few of the senior jockeys look stupid, 3 wins today and a placing all on the inside part of the track where almost all the winners came from, whereas some jockeys still came to the outside part of the track and came up empty. Why do they try to ride against the pattern if the day? Danielle Hirinis mount in the last might be worth following in Strada Roccia as she was out in the car park for some reason but still ran on well. Id imagine there will be a queue for this boy to be riding their horse with a 4kg claim this winter.
Freda
I'd be embarassed to call myself a 'punter' - my investments are so modest - but I have far better luck in the winter, and also, usually, in jumping races.
barryb
Did anyone see the massive move for Miss Lizzie in the last yesterday?. I grabbed her in aus at $31 in the morning to see her starting price of $9, was guttered she ran 2nd. Those sort of market moves frequently happen with winter racing & getting onto them early is the key.
