Newmarket
God that track is utter shit. Nothing runs on, its a front running bog shit hole. No wonder punters not betting, its not all about covid-19, its the shit product offered. Might be good to see racing pulled, many would have to get another career, why not.

Avondale which hosts the Sunday Markets may be in trouble. However some out of the square thinking could solve the problem. Actually nothing wrong with the track or facilities. The place is worst racing venue in NZ by a mile, it’s a shithole. The track is a disgrace, and the jocks ride it poorly, soft leads and as Newmarket says virtually zero runs on. It’s overtaken Ruakaka as a place I don’t bet at much.
Fred
It is an excellent track and well equipped to cater for the virus affected crowds.

I've never been there..but I've been told that the track [ not facilities ] is very good. Is that not, now, the case?

Back when the stock market was boiling and the lights for night racing were burning! it was a exciting place to be! There had been concerned about weather our camera gair/film would be fit for purpose! it just was! Lots of Press to be had in the Press Room! Which was well stocked with liquor!!! It was a pleasure to be taking photos there! a slow and steady decline since those days! sigh...

With Rita now collectively wringing it's hands and pleading for yet more dosh, Avondale might be where the axe falls, perhaps? Fred
Evidently it costs around 800k per annum to run Avondale and the costs are covered by the market, sports fields and other rentals. So they are not a burden on the industry like some other metro tracks. Attempts to close them down would see a demonstration of Craddock proportions
Ultra
A burden? Appalling facilities, poor attendances. Track maintenance looks questionable. No local participation - everyone has to travel. How about participants trying to get to and from the venue? Do yourselves a favour - sell and use the money to relocate, because at the moment you are a burden, and you are an embarrassment to our industry

Right now the facilities should be contracted to the government for use as isolation centres, schools or whatever. For example as a caravan park.
