Brodie
With no racing on in Nz have been watching with intent the harness racing in Oz for the last few days. The whip rule that they have just seems to work! Is there actually a limit as to how many times you are allowed to use the whip over there nowadays? I can tell you, it is refreshing to see that most of the drivers aren’t shy to use the whip to encourage their horses to do their best! Does make for very good punting when you know that they aren’t counting and scared to do anything! HRNZ bring in the rule that they have over there and it will improve the racing and encourage punters to offload, and lets face it, you need punters badly!!!!! The drivers might be slowly getting there. I still support the whip rule in NZ as 10 times is plenty to get the best of the horse (if indeed it does) and watching races I don't really see any difference in race finishes between the previous and current rule except that the floggers have gone and it is much better to watch.
Chief Stipe
Take a look at Quarter Horse racing (provided by our very own TAB Trackside). Over 300m they whip every stride!
eljay
It only looks bad if it's done in NZ!
Brodie
Does anyone know what the whip rule currently being used in Oz is, or is it a free for all. Some of them are hitting at least 20 times which is good if you have backed that one. Most drivers are not as meek and mild as our ones are. After we get racing back I imagine our drivers will be wanting to make u for lost time, to try and get some money back!!!

Brodie
The Ozzies clearly saw the light and have certainly not banned the whip as they originally wanted to do! They now have no number of hits with the whip in their rules, which is what the ru,es in NZ should be as well. It was just plain stupid when HRNZ brought the rule in with no consensus of support whatsoever and now it is such a confusing and hard to fathom rule! There are injustices involved with the way it is monitored or not monitored! The ship rule is just as Stupid as the other plainly stupid rule they introduced in regards to being able to lodge a protest when there as been interference!!!!!!
Mardy
Not sure if it's just me or not.But whenever i've watched a race from Oz,have always noticed that when they go to hit the horse with the whip, they never seem to take their hands off the reins to give the horse a hit.Compared to here where you clearly see their whip hand is off the reins, over their it seems much different.

Brodie
Oz has certainly got it right! Harness NZ certainly made a major stuff up by bringing in stuff a blatantly stupid rule that had no logic to it whatsoever. How do they expect a driver to count up to 10 ea who,e concentrating on driving their horse? HRNZ change the rule back to what it was And admit you erred badly!!! NOT SLAVE HORSES! find a good standardbred vet and He/Her will tell you how cruel it is not to have a SB in work at some stage. A whil rule that was bought in to protect the SB and expose the cruel and torturous and barbaric practices of these trainers and owners! as long as their corporate dollar hungry govt monopoly dictators dont have their corporate champagne day out to France be deemed outrageous megalomaniac spending of whats no better than a feeble govt MAFIA! TAB + GOVT = shitstains on our fine before it was assraped by the govt!
