Very pleasing to see some of you get a mention by Winston Peters at the Beehive yesterday.

Well done.

Peters said they'd "had enough of old men leaning against the rails, scratching their derrieres and blaming everybody else" in the racing industry.

A bit rich coming from Peters who has been a drain on the taxpayer all of his life.

Doesnt even know he was getting too much Super from the taxpayer and then has the gall to sue the taxpayer.

He loses in court and then the taxpayer has a bloody bill of over $1 million for his failure and this fellah is the saviour of racing?

Yeah right!

So they found it likely his details were leaked by someone from the ministry of social development.  He tried to enforce the old motto, actions have  consequences, but should have known some government department employees  have their own agenda's and know how to not take responsibility..

National government was certainly no friend of racing.,

Winston has shown he has been the racing industries best supporter within government in the last couple of decades. I like his views on most things, but i guess  those that support National really struggle to acknowledge anything he does.

He's a charlatan.  Peter's read the same speech he gave 2 years ago the only difference being the $50m in bailout money.  The $20m for two synthetic tracks he and his sidekick Jones allocated two years ago from the PGF fund.

Now Galah you post mainly on the Harness forum - how much of the $20m for synthetic tracks did Harness get?  Or are harness trainers going to be allowed to train on them?

More importantly are the Synthetic Tracks going to be raced on and provide more revenue for the industry?  Cambridge's is a training track - are the putting in facilities to hold race meetings?  The word is Riccarton's is only a training track too.  Is Winnie going to keep pitching up with the operating expenses for these three new tracks?

I'm surprised people can't see the contradiction - "tracks need to close" but "I'll build you three new ones."

If they are solely training tracks they are hardly going to save the revenue from race meeting abandonments.  The race meeting abandonments actually saved the industry money because they weren't budgeted for!

Nothing's changed.

I think as a harness fan you have to be realistic and accept that the scales will tip in the gallops favor when it comes to the support the racing industry  may get from government

Comparing  the 2 codes can be a divisive approach at this present time. I think each code needs to pick the right battles to fight, but i don't see synthetic tracks funding as being one worth complaining about.

I don't see a contradiction as far as the closing tracks issue goes, as they are sticking with the centralisation theme.

I do agree that if they are just to be training tracks only,  then how does it help with the holding of actual race meetings on courses that will have more racing dates, and that already struggle with track surfaces. I don't know too much about those type of tracks and what it costs to maintain them so you would hope they prove to be an asset, and not a liability.

If you saw him in Parliament today, reading from his papers, he is well past his best, if he ever had a best!

This career politician has had his nose in the trough for so long it isn’t funny, and even with his Swamy way and arrogance, he couldn’t even win his own seat at the last election!!!!

Here he is speaking BS about how great thou art and mocking the National politicians.

To be fair he does equate to most of the others in the current  government for ability!
