Delta Bro
The Select Committee Report has been released and the land grab provisions have not been removed https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/reports/document/SCR_98073/racing-industry-bill A mealy-mouthed provision has been added which reads "We recommend inserting clauses 26A and 26B. Clause 26A would provide that the Minister must not recommend an Order in Council to transfer the venue if, having considered these issues, the Minister considers special circumstances exist. Clause 26B would apply if the Minister decided there was no justification to exempt the venue from transfer under clause 26. In this instance, the Minister would decide whether and how the surplus venue should be transferred to the code, taking into account the factors in clause 26B(a) to (k)." Winston Peters, or whoever the Racing Minister is at the time, gets to approve the theft of private property. What might make him want to? How about pressure from donors making substantial campaign donations via his party's Foundation? It looks as if South Africa's Julius Malema will be able to site the New Zealand Racing Bill as an example of his land expropriation policies being no different from what is being enacted in other countries. So much for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which says Article 17. (1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property. Final-report-Racing-Industry-Bill-198-2.pdf
Chief Stipe
The realised cash from the sale of assets will go into the black holes never to be seen again. Awapuni and Riccarton come to mind. If you are going to sell assets at least have the foresight to plan for the future. Both Awapuni and Riccarton are dead ends. Why not invest in a Greenfields site in Canterbury that allows for the expansion of training facilities? If Cambridge can't afford to maintain their tracks with 1,200 horses being trained there then how is Riccarton going to do it? Unless they expand the number of horses being trained on site.
Chief Stipe
I've just finished reading the proposed changes to the Bill. There is NOTHING in it relating to a POSITIVE generation of revenue. The focus is on a restructure with the creation of new entities - Racing NZ, TAB NZ, RIB (Racing Integrity Board) - isn't that more of the same? Plus legislation enabling the grabbing of club assets for "the benefit of racing as a whole." Can someone explain where Mesara got this idea from? I sure as hell can't see a similar approach in Australia.
Joe Bloggs
After a long layoff and some minor brain surgery which failed to correct previous defects I would like to add to the conversation best I can...... How Saundry keeps his job is beyond me....... How a supposed first world country would allow legislation that is in fact thieving from the people is beyond me..... How there is not a commission of inquiry into the machinations of the collapse and trading as insolvent of TAB and RITA is beyond me.....the industry should demand it. How defaulters and avoiders and their nominees are allowed to nominate and accept horses to race in contravention of the rules of racing is beyond me....... There are some good buggers in racing always has been, always will, however the bad buggers seem to be in the positions of power, how is that so? On a thread in another forum someone suggested that Peters and the act of acquisition will be used or could be used by the infamous Julius Malema in South Africa as the blueprint for his inglorious and barbaric grab of white farmers lands for the righteous use of the ceremonial landowners...black South Africans....when in fact there are no black indigenous South Africans, only the San people of the Kalahari.......South Africa was settled by the Boer and the English who ran up against the incumbent inhabitants who had moved down from the lands of Sub Saharan Africa and further......sound familiar?..........we all know what happened when the Boer and the English decided enough was enough and the Zulu wars began........sound familiar....... .Peters is on dangerous ground me thinks, I predict the following scenario........Peters will call a press conference in a few months time, or sooner......he will announce that there will be no more funding of stakes going forward as Adern and her Gov need the revenue to support the NZ welfare system and to assist in the regrowth of the NZ economy. The only possible way for racing to continue is if there is a general consensus and agreement that all racecourses especially the cash cow Avondale are sold and NZ Rcing can become self funding and self reliant. Of course the voters from mainstream NZ will respond favourably to Peters as the majority of millennial's and most public servants/welfare recipients will vote Aderns way and NZ racing participants will be left to ponder.....for our very survival we must allow the acquisitions though and bow our heads....at least we can continue with our careers and lifestyles with horses....... Several years ago Mrs Bloggs commented to a leading CD trainer that in 5 years there would be no domestic racing in NZ, she could see the writing on the wall, this was long before the failed and miserable FO betting platform collapsed and long before the flawed Messara report. Poor John was advised by people pushing private agendas, it's there now for all to see. 2

Huey
Hopefully these clubs can band together and fight this. This is absurd ,this will be supporting the worst run wagering business in the world and several of the worst run clubs in this country. Really I thought they may have seen some sense out of all of this , but when youre dealing with WP this is what you expect.

Here's a novel idea for self sustainability , how about the racing industry get the product right , RITA/TAB get their product right , then introduce sustainable revenue growing plans for the TAB . At the same time starting to appreciate that the punter , small and large , are their number 1 priority and give them the tools to punt more . It's not hard , i believe it's how it basically worked in the bad old days .
Joe Bloggs
The lunatics are running the asylum nomates, the distrust out here is disturbing, or it should be, when you can't trust the people who run your business or our business they should be run out of town. These people aren't racing people nomates, they are mercenaries and financial and emotional terrorists. You think Saundry will walk into a comparative remunerated job back in Oz when he finally gets his marching order? There is a certain lady trainer waiting for him along with quite a few others named in her recent court action, all you need to do is google her, Kate Goodrich is her name, what she suffered no-one should be subjected to. She has already won her first round in the courts, I can't wait for the next round and the KO punch...... Jackson, Hughes and Allen will hopefully oneday be hauled up and face their comeuppance.......however, the auditor's story will be that of the most interest, I've mentioned way back, a forensic investigation will be the only way we, the Hoi poloi will ever learn the horrible truth. I don't know how the freedom of information act works in NZ, or even if there is such a thing, however, so many lives and livelihoods are at stake here, let's see what the future holds. Unfortunately our experience in NZ was short-lived, a suicide by a young fellow with his life ahead of him and the lies, cover-ups, bullshit and a coroner that appeared to have little interest in getting to the truth. The behaviour by certain people at NZTR was despicable, lying and deceitful actions are only the iceberg, it will all come out one day I'll see to that, even if only to honour the memory of an industry person who deserved more, much more! 1

Living in Rotorua, I used to cringe having to walk into the local TAB, stand at the counter getting handed heaps of cash after it was counted out in the open for all to see, then walking out of the joint to the bank to deposit the cash. Yes I once was a lower tier "elite" customer of theirs. I went on and on with my account reps (yes I had three different ones during my shortish stay as their customer because they kept leaving the TAB) to get something done about it. Nothing ever happened. My turnover began to dwindle with them until I got basically got an email from them saying that if I didn't increase my turnover, they would be dropping me out of the "elite" program. I told them straight away to go ahead and drop me from it, which then did rather quickly. Once demoted, I sent them one final email requesting they close my account, which they weren't willing to do, as I still had 70 cents in the account. They informed me that they couldn't close the account until I withdrew the final 70 cents. What they did do was "suspend" my account and I believe is still under that restraint. So to this day I'll still be a 70 cent liability on their books. The liability for them is worth far more to me than the 70 cents are. ? Is this why sorting out the $1.7m is taking so long? Goodrich: Racing Victoria has destroyed me BY ADRIAN DUNN - @ADRIANDUNN2 9 hours from now Horse Racing Kate Goodrich (Pic: supplied) Embattled trainer Kate Goodrich claims Racing Victoria has “destroyed her” and asked Fair Work Australia to place a “stop bullying order” against Racing Victoria CEO Bernard Saundry on Tuesday. Goodrich claims the inaction of RV in dealing with her bullying case has left her with no alternative but to take action against Saundry. She claims Saundry has done nothing to address the findings of an independent investigation, which found she had been “bullied” and subject to “threatening behaviour” while training horses at Kilmore. The independent investigation, commissioned by RV, also found a suspension of Goodrich by the Kilmore Racing Club to be “flawed, unjustifiable and did not withstand scrutiny”. “They have destroyed me,” Goodrich said. “Looking at these horses just breaks my heart. I’ve got to the point where I will have to sell everything.” Goodrich said Saundry has been in possession of the independent report for 10 months, but “has done nothing”. She said the bullying was continuing. “For three years I haven’t been provided with a safe workplace,” Goodrich said. “Racing Victoria is not going to handle it – they just go around and around in circles. “I need someone to come in and make a ruling on the investigation.” RV declined to discuss spec... 3
