Kakama
Eamon Maguire looks a good early prospect....but early on it seems a weakish field, well without laz anyway. I know we say this each year....but what up and comers stand out?
Newmarket
Before Easter cup, I thought buster Brady was in for big year with a few better horses sold. But has been disappointing, maybe see how he goes in a few months after freshen up.
Newmarket
Now that I’ve mentioned him, my field Marshall? I know the horse is more of a sprinter, but could be right race for him this year. Could be a few more aussies here, may be trans Tasman clash

Guest CrossCodes
The Butt trained horses would be no show in my opinion. He hasn't trained anything in NZ of any note for years now since his arsenic issues. Certainly they seem to improve when they go over to Australian, maybe they are a bit more lax in their swabbing, I'm not sure, but I certainly wouldn't pick him to win any decent race over here any time soon. Newmarket
Yes, Aussie trip a few years back. I remember now. I think Tim will bounce back, can see him getting a few big wins this season, and some will be in nz. 2

With the great run the stable had with lyall creek, take a moment, happy asset, flashing red, Mr Feelgood etc, it was always gonna be hard keeping it up each year. I think people forget just how good the stable has done over the years in nz & aus.

He would win a lot of money and races by going over the ditch, he's proven he's not up to the better horses over here, although has been up a fair while and might just be tired. Basil
Nobody's mentioned Ultimate Machete. He'd be my long-range pick (which, given my track record, means he's essentially got no chance!) 2

Agree there.
Newmarket
Be interesting to see how this horse goes in nz. NZ cup this year could be the most open in years. Good old TAB, they dont even have a ..Any Other Option available on early odds? Joke! Edited August 28, 2018 by Newmarket

Yes great to see other horses interested and entered for the cup. Will be worth wtching this year. To me Cruz Bromac is not a good stand start horse and not a 2 miler. Maybe the FFA will suit better as definately has a lot of speed. Could be another Steel Jaw as does like to lead! Will be intersting to see what polish the AS can put on the horse to lift it a notch or two for the Cup.

Dontcha just have to laugh at those that said this year's NZ Cup would be boring because of a lack of depth. Well the lack of depth has had a bang on effect, and given some exciting horses from other quarters a chance to take out NZ,s top harness prize. Bring it on. Still sticking to Ultimate Machete should he start. Perfect grinder for this type of race, along with Chicago Bull.

Adam Hamilton really spruiking up Chicago Bull, hope the Aussies all come over as we certainly do lack depth in nz at the moment Globe! I haven't been looking or heard any reports about u machete, anyone know when they are considering starting him? 1
