ELLERSLIE to sell off HILL

Recommended Posts

#yeana.....

But seriously...a racing industry that is basically broke, requiring Government assistance, can't have the luxury of converting such valuable land for the landed gentry of Remuera types...

just sitting there...activated for a few meetings...while Rome burns...

Sell the sod off...invest in a Strath surface, which they should have done instead of a piddling drainage job...and race every 2 weeks THROUGHOUT the year...

No 3 months off nonsense

Alternatively sell the whole thing off....buy a Greenfields project out Muriwai way....or Port Waikato..both close to the population bases...even setting up a new training centre there...with the white elephant Hill funds....

Oh...and sell off that dog Pukekohe too

Sorted

Thomas, you've got the right approach but thereafter way of beam. Ellerslie and Puke are jewels of the crown. Already far too much Ellerslie land has been sold off to pay for the ARC salaries.

Acknowledgement has to be made of the huge development north and west of Auckland. The logical thing to do is sell Avondale and invest in a complex between Helensville and Orewa.

Yes but in times of troubled waters...

Riding alongside a white elephant, like the Hill, when holding your hand out like an Oliver only highlights how two faced the Industry is....

Dont tell me the anon buyer of this perfect potential Race Course/training centre is the ex plastic lunch box King?

Muriwai Downs Farm sold for over $12.5m to wealthy New Zealand resident

Anuja Nadkarni14:24, Jan 16 2020

The 100-year-old Muriwai Downs Farm on Auckland's west coast has been sold to a wealthy New Zealand residents.

According to Auckland Council records, the Muriwai Rd property, near Muriwai Beach had a capital value (CV) of $12.5 million.

Bayleys capital markets director Layne Harwood said the property sold for well above its CV in an unconditional offer before Christmas.

Harwood would not disclose details about the buyer but said it was a "high net worth" New Zealand resident, who bought it as part of a long term investment plan.

Companies Office records show The Bears Home Company, which was incorporated in October 2019, has its registered address as the Muriwai Downs Farm.

The director of The Bears Home Company is Guang Huang but is owned by Jialing Yin and Zhaoxi Lu.

Yin owns a $3m house in Auckland's Dairy Flat. Meanwhile Lu owned two multi-million dollar properties in Dairy Flat.

Harwood said the Muriwai Downs Farm could not be redeveloped because it was rural and would continue to operate as a farm.

The working farm with dairy cows, sheep and beef cattle as well as sandstone quarrying operations was sold as a going concern with rural stock, he said.

The 500-hectare farm has been owned and farmed since 1919 by five generations of the Houghton family.

The farm has two waterfalls, conservation wetlands and the 4ha Lake Okaihau and is divided into five lots ranging from 47ha to 143ha.

The 500 hectare Muriwai Downs Farm has a lake and two waterfalls.

Harwood said the Houghtons decided to sell the farm because the value of the land outweighed the return from operating the farm.

A resource consent was granted in 2017 to subdivide 12 lifestyle blocks over lot 1 and lot 5, to the western point of the farm.

Conditions of the consent include registration of covenanted bush, ecological and wetland protection areas.

You only manage to pick winners when the race has already been run.

If you want people at racing you stay in town or put train tracks on your door step.

Getting people to the races hardly seems a high priority to me from a business perspective. We need to get horses to the races and punters betting on them in the first instance don't we?

It shouldn't be a priority.  I know I sound boring and repetitive but why do we expect racing to be any different to rugby in terms of attendance?

As you point out Curious the key to racing surviving is where the rubber hits the road or in horse terms where the hoof hits the turf.

Good consistent safe turf tracks with quality fields and the punter will punt.  They don't need to be on course to punt.

Racing in a populated area creates awareness, a presence which draws interest from local community who otherwise wouldn't be aware of horse racing.

It would be a backwards step to disappear into the wilderness.

The functions and venue hire ellerslie host has got to play a major role in promoting racing, when people venture to the windows and see the vast amount of racing land they can and will stand in awe and often take photos for Instagram, facebook and so on. It can be these moments punters plan their racing experience.

Maybe it is , but at least someone can try and make their first post a positive contribution .

Bit snarky really. You may or may not be aware that Thomarrrssee has a history of posting winners on the Monday after the race has been run.

Still, if you want to make yourself look like a bit of a plonker then go ahead.

I'm also unaware of any rule that says your first post has to be 'positive'.

This place seems a bundle of negativity but, of course, I could be wrong.
