However the issue is all part of this "being a good employer" crap but then they are not actually his employer. In my opinion it is none of their business but they think they have the power under the licence agreement. I guess a lawyer is pointing out to them that they don't actually have that power. Wouldn't a compromise be CJW agreeing to be tested early each race day? Do they actually test EVERYONE early race day? LongOwner
NZTR witch hunt , likely with RIU encouragement - righteous people in both camps . When have the RIU been given the mandate to be the sports moral compass ? I have witnessed RIU members play the moral card in front of none industry people in a private setting and name individuals . They were called out by an individual there and then with facts quoted back to these RIU members about the history of such behaviour in many Govt Dept and large organisations and felt it was outside his mandate with a strong response given. The person who called the RIU out is very well respected person in the business world, sits on many boards and when we were walking out he volunteered to me (knowing I have horses ) he could not believe what he had heard and the aggressive tone that these couple of people were judge jury on morals in NZ racing ! 2

Chief Stipe
How is it that it takes a Harness supporter working freelance for the NZ Herald to make an "announcement"? NZTR promised us one this week.

NZTR promised us one this week. Exactly. CWJ should get his license back prior to NZ Cup Meeting (next week), and I hope we give him his record breaking ride, though Karen and John Parsons might hope otherwise! Unfortunately once again racing will lose a great promotional tool, imagine how popular his mounts would be during NZ Cup Week if the record is in his sights, it still may be, 3 or 4 winning rides Otago Melbourne Cup day and it's all on. This is ridiculous to say the least I understand Chris has been tested more than thirty times, only once has he failed an alcohol test and he was still below the level to drive a vehicle. Other riders and drivers have not been treated like Chris is being, why? He has ridden for us for over 35 years and of all riders that have ridden for us consistently he has been the best. Three Group 1 wins, multiple Stakes wins, etc, Chris is not perfect, we all know that, but he is a professional, an outstanding horseman and he is certainly very popular. Chris, I hope you smash the record, I hope it's in Red and White colours 6
LongOwner
Witch hunt pitman by the RIU. Maybe both codes will start to accept the RIU is out of control with a vindictive streak which is out of control No nominations on a harness and gallops mid week race day may say everyone has had enough. curious
Jockey wins battle New Zealand jockey Chris Johnson has won his battle to continue riding after an alcohol-related suspension that threatened his charge towards becoming the country's most successful rider. Johnson has had a suspension of his riding licence lifted by the integrity panel of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing but with some conditions, including regular raceday testing of his blood alcohol levels. Johnson sits just eight wins behind David Walsh's 2451 as New Zealand's most successful domestic jockey. However, the 56-year-old's road to the record was halted when he failed a breathalyser test after riding in the first race at Riccarton on September 12. He was suspended for a month and fined $1000 for that breach. But during that suspension he was also notified by NZTR his licence was suspended until he could show he was no longer alcohol-dependent. Johnson visited a medical specialist in Christchurch this week and the NZTR panel was satisfied with what they were told as he is now free to ride again, with his first day back likely to be Ashburton on Thursday. Chief Stipe
Further the "Integrity Panel" used to be the "Integrity Committee" didn't it? Certainly can't find anything on the NZTR Loveracing website about the "Integrity Panel." A quick scan of the Rules of Racing, NZTR Policy's and Directives and I can't work out how they actually suspended Chris indefinitely for the reason they did. Let alone find any appeal process. I imagine a legal eagle would have had a field day engaging with the "NZTR Integrity Panel"!!! Ironically the most comprehensive policy relating to licensee's is the one concerning abuse of officials and gagging of comments on social media!
