Genuine question- anyone with the answer?

We all know that if you go into a Casino nowadays and in the past, that you will see heaps of people that come from Asian countries!

Nothing rascist about it, but the Asian people have always loved to gamble.

Not going to point out any particular countries, because it now seems to be most of them going by the people who now frequent the Chch Casino and I know Auckland as well big time!

My question is why do we not have the same people wagering on harness racing, as this would seem to be a good market to target to get more money into harness by both owning and punting!!

I have never seen many oncourse and very rarely do you see them wagering at agencies.

Do Asian people enjoy the immediate result that a bet at the Casino offers or is there some other reason?

Off the cuff I can only think of Luk Chin as being the only Asian trainer in NZ over the years!

Great market to target Brods. You are on the money and Im off to bed.

As for

Off the cuff I can only think of Luk Chin as being the only Asian trainer in NZ over the years.

I heard someone said about him,

He earns thousands, as Dr Luk Chin,

Yet he choses to risk his life with these horses.

Personally for me Karrots, Iv seen more than 1 of his horses play up at start of a race and 1 fall to the track.

Hence S.C, keeps a watchful eye out for him.

Bless him.

Nothing rascist there Brodie. I think the demographic that reside in NZ and Aus are just pursuing the lifestyle they enjoy and harness racing wasn't part of it. Is to me a very local Tradition filled Sport.

Racing is HUGE in Hong Kong and Bart Cummings raced Cox/Melbourne Cup winners for Hong Kong businessmen , many of whom buy heaps of horses every year to race in Hong Kong , from NZ and Oz.

Very first horse i ever drove in South Auckland was for one of the loveliest persons I ever met in years of harness, and his wife in South Auckland. Lee Nandina owned by Charlie Wong, an Asian gentleman , market gardener in South Auckland, who would of raced a fair few over the years, with his family. got some results but had FUN too.

These days the punting entertainment is indeed for instant gratification. as you suggested. Horse racing is almost entirely for people who Love horses dearly, and can wait as a Long term project for any results. (like Karrots)

Gamms,

Lee Nandina sparks memories from my early nights at The Park.

Did he race out of Jim Smith's Takanini Barn!

She did, what a little pocket dynamo, cranky little thing she was.

One of her foals did quite well for Big Jim and Charlie Wong and his wife too. Captain Lee won a fair few I think, with Mango driving, before he was exported off to WA in the 90's , like every second NZ winner it seems.

I suspect you have answered your own question there Brodie. Casino gambling is more in their culture rather than Harness Racing which doesn't exist in Asia.   I do agree  that it would be a good idea to market our industry to them somehow.

I seem to remember the late Derek Jones had some Chinese owners many years ago.

Snap:Hutt Park,late 80's/early 90's.

Oncourse Jackpot, expected to reach $250,000 plus,& had to terminate.

A couple of Other Syndicate Members & Myself flew down from Auckland.

We had $8,000 to spend,& about 90 minutes before 1st Leg,I joined queue 2nd from window.

After a few minutes,(and not moving)I asked the guy ahead of me,how much was he spending!Answer was $9,000 plus,so I instantly jumped queques,

In those days, tickets were sold in $1 units,Think you took first 2 Legs same as a double, then if live returned to exchange live tickets race by race.

I only got all our tickets on with a few minutes to spare,(though I think race start was delayed few minutes to assist the still long queues)& the other guy was still getting tickets punched out.

Turns out that His Syndicate was organised by Ken Wikeley,a keen racegoer who I had often seen around Northern Tracks,& was in The News as Co-Founder of Rainbow's End.

For the record,we were knocked out after 2nd Leg.

This is exactly why we should still have these jackpots.  Pick 6 is a waste of time.

How come lotto can have $30m Jackpots and racing doesn't get past a paltry $50k

They were good days when punters and enthusiasts turned up oncourse and there was atmosphere.

The days at Addington with the manual dividend board with the red and yellow win and place being altered.

That was exciting for very young enthusiasts.

If there was a roughy win there was often heckling from the public as the trainer or driver had the long walk back to the stables!

None of this nowadays and next to no punters oncourse.

Basically only owners and stable employees and people socialisimg for a few drinks.

Punters have been turned off by a variety of things and this is a huge problem in the future for an industry that is on the slide!

Larger  wagering Punters can not get sufficient money on to make it worth going, what with this crazy AML policy which is just blatant BS!!!!!

The clubs need to wake up to this and get the $1k limit removed as it is costing them big time financially

To be fair I do not think Brods was being racist in this thread. Have however read a post where it was racist not long ago, now the word has come up.  A post stating Maori or Maori culture is from the Stone Age re Brods post.

Anyways moving on.

To be honest, I do not really care if anyone thinks that I am racist, sexist or anything that is not correct nowadays!

The world is a far worse place culturally and politically sleaking to what it used to be!

Blatant BS not being able to use the word woman instead it has to be person!

Golly Wog is racist etc. etc.

Crazy shit that I just do not go along with, so maybe I am racist, sexist etc.

Just calling it the way it is!

Brods, not going to get into this with you. Much prefer to talk with you about racing, our common interest 😁

Let me correct my wording so Im more clear, it was a racist comment, that does not specially mean you are racist in my view. You maybe you may not be, Id need to know you better. Which I don't.

However it was a racist comment.

Anyways nite all.

suspected money launderer ?

Ranga, we are all suspected money launderers, were you not aware  of this?

Produce your ID when you are collecting over $1k, that is what money launderers do isnt it?

They put their money thru the NZ TAB or oncourse a whole $1k and hope that they win!

Is is just a load of BS, TAB wanting total control!

i had no idea i thought it was just you

i keep my fixed odds collects under $1k but only due to fear of being restricted

Everyone is a potential money launderer Ranga!

If you spend $2 and win $1k on a trifecta then the NZ TAB want to know who spent that $2 and won $1k because they could well be big time money launderers!

I can advise them that it is highly unlikely that that $2 punter is a money launderer, but maybe they are???????
It is just a load of bollacks but they just want control, but it is going to backfire on them!
