Did I just see right? Champagne Stakes 2021 Ellerslie - Track staff lying beside track spook horses!

Haven't been taking much notice but did I see a replay of a race from Ellerslie where horses got spooked by a couple of guys lying down near the rail on the turn - AGAIN?

They were track staff doing track maintenance when they looked up and seen horses , had to dive under rail . Had an enquiry , first 4 home confirmed but the 5th horse called a late scr .

It's becoming amatuer hour when even the staff don't know the races have started .

I know I do bang on about track renovation and maintenance but surely they can do it before or after a race!

Begs the question though what was so important that it needed to be done on raceday?  A belated Easter bunny perhaps?

Track staff must have thought management were taking the piss when they told them they had the Easter Hcp meeting on this Saturday . The staff said we're too sharp for them trying to pull one over their eyes , they knew Easter was 3 weeks ago .

LADY MAROAL (M McNab) – Briefly hampered approaching the 600 metres when taking evasive action to avoid ARC staff on the track.

TE POROPITI (S Collett) – Inconvenienced soon after leaving the barrier. Hampered and shifted wider when taking evasive action to avoid ARC staff on the track near the 600 metres. Declared a non-runner. Following the race the Stewards lodged a request for a ruling with the Judicial Committee to determine whether the race should be voided or selected runners should be declared non-runners due to runners having to avoid ARC track staff approaching the 600 metres. After considering submissions, the Judicial Committee declared TE POROPITI to be a non runner.

Haha you cant help but laugh, the so called RIP centre of NZ racing - ffs we are a massive joke of an industry run by posers.

At least they would have had a good rave after the races , that's all NZTR seem to care about , it certainly isn't racing.

Several years ago a horse ( Blizzard?) fell into a hole in the back straight....

Last year a guy playing golf wandered onto the track looking for his ball...in the face of a field of horses coming at him..

It seems the committee at ellerslie are going to shoot themselves in the foot by selling off a world famous part of their track ( the Hill)

Today a couple of drongoes who work for ellerslie forgot its a raceday and have a siesta on the track in front of a field of 2 year olds..

I think a travelling circus should set up a permanant act at ellerslie..sure aint any shortage of clowns!

So after looking at their report why was only 1 horse declared a non runner , there was 3 other runners that were impeded that didn't fill the 4st four positions , so why were they not declared non runners as well .

Bit of a farce really , young horses can easily put off and stop trying , they should all have been declared non runners as well .

Thought the same, they stated horses were affected, I am sure some riders thought the race would be called off
