It's positive news, thanks for posting. There are a couple of areas of concern, especially stakes reduction, but hopefully that can be turned around.

That is interesting Unhinged so really the TAB are not dependent on the Brodster investing his millions with them after all !!! He must be out sunbathing, look out he will be on his soap box shortly.

Yeah i seen these figures, despite Brodie and a few others saying Harness racing declining in popularity last few years it obviously is not.Interesting number of starters and number of races increase and betting dollars way up.

Anyone is allowed to believe in what they want!

So many still believe that we are in danger of Covid19 and its associated BS!
Do I believe that harness racing is going forward? NO!

Unhinged, if you believe that racing for $7,500 in 2021 is good progress then you have very low expectations!

Hey at the end of the day hopefully it is looking good, as I want harness racing to thrive!

As you are well aware Unhinged, Brodie does not need harness racing financially whatsoever!!

Far better returns in other investments it is just the principle and ethics of the TAB that I dislike!!

Has anybody factored in that covid meant by April 11 last year nearly 3 weeks of racing was lost?

Good point Mikey.I had forgot about that completely,

I'm not so sure if harness racing is going as well  as they say it is,sure the sunday meetings seem popular and the holidays meetings too but there are some barely average days as well,a lot of those southern meetings on wednesdays and thursdays probably ain't reaching great heights,Cambridge and Auckland sometimes poor performers too, judging by figures posted on harnessed website.

I've said before and I will say it again there is a bias towards Canterbury in the dates distribution,in august Southland have wednesdays and thursday, not flash days really yet Canterbury get sundays,no one can doubt the success of the grass meetings later on but early on shift those low key Canterbury meetings to Tuesdays or Wednesday and give Southland a fairer chunk of the action.

There is a bias towards Canterbury because that is where the majority of harness horses are trained.

Southland probably needs more dates but they are restricted by the weather down there. Southland winters are not conducive for harness or galloping racing. I think Southland Harness is doing Ok with promising horses coming through the grades and a number of excellent young trainers including, N. Williamson, Allister Black and Craig Fergusson.

They are going to race in July next year at Wyndham, racing in July unheard of until last year, but I notice a couple of gaps in June ,those weeks Forbury raced  not taken up by other clubs so effectively a few less meetings next season in the south, getting back to the calandar in recent years all the early meetings ,August,September have been weekend affairs, now not the case, that's where I think Canterbury getting preference, once the grass tracks start and daylight saving starts then Sunday's for Canterbury and midweek Southland seems a better fit, that's my opinion anyway for what it's worth if it's worth anything.
